Chapter 157: Chapter 157: "Black Hand"_1

Emotional control is an essential quality of an exceptional graduate.

This signifies their ability to make the most rational judgment when facing complex situations. As a leader, every decision in the battlefield can determine the fate of each team member.

Therefore, in Lu Xiang’s life, there is no room for anger.

During emotional management lessons, she had witnessed numerous wrong decisions led by anger. These were life lessons learned painfully over time by those before her.

She was unsure of what Song Lan described as an angered state of departure.

This was meant to convince the assassins she had fallen out with Aureliano. Lu Xiang worried that her poor acting skills might give away the plan Song Lan had so painstakingly devised.

"What’s it like when you are angry?"

"I don’t usually get angry."

"What if someone deliberately provokes you?"

"Ignore them, or prevent them from interfering with my work when necessary."

Faced with Lu Xiang’s composed answers, Song Lan was momentarily speechless. He had anticipated many potential problems with the plan, but he hadn’t accounted for this.

Reflecting on it, Lu Xiang indeed had never showed any anger in front of him. Confronting even the vilest criminals, she always maintained her calm during interrogations.

"So...have you ever encountered similar situations before, like needing to protect a recalcitrant target during an assignment?"

Song Lan thought even the thought of such a situation was enraging enough.

Although he had never been assigned to guard any target in the real world, he recalled from his university days playing an FPS game where he often was kicked out of the room for angrily attacking his teammates because of the frustrating escort mission map. Song Lan couldn’t comprehend how Lu Xiang could still remain calm despite such infuriating tasks.

"About two years ago, our team received an assignment to escort an undercover agent to safely retreat during a practical exercise. We were sent in to a dire situation where the agent refused to leave due to personal reasons."

With the city’s largest crime syndicate’s pursuers at the forefront, and a defiant agent at the back, Lu Xiang thought her past experience was similar to what Song Lan described.

Neither did she curse nor show anger, but made the most rational judgment according to the circumstances. She grabbed the undercover agent by the neck, and under his unprepared state, smashed his head hard onto the table.

To ensure the target passed out smoothly, she probably went a bit hard, and ended up breaking his nose and front teeth along with knocking him unconscious.

Afterwards, a slight concussion was diagnosed by the military doctor.

The mission commander criticized her actions. However, the critique wasn’t about her knocking out the agent, but more about how she should be a little more gentle next time, she didn’t have to rough the person up to the point of requiring plastic surgery.

"So, if Aureliano shows a lack of cooperation, the rational judgement is to knock him unconscious and escort him to safety until the crisis is averted."

As for Song Lan’s scenario of having a big argument and storming off, she was still quite unsure of what it actually entails.

What can be said for certain though, is that such actions in a battlefield would most likely get you tried in a military court for dereliction of duty.

"Forget it, I’ll demonstrate it to you."

Song Lan rubs his forehead, determined to do anything necessary for their vacation plan.

.....................

In the afternoon, at the People’s Will.

The determined face of Aureliano is resolved in the scope of the sniper rifle.

Someone walks into the shabby office shortly after.

"It’s Lu Xiang."

From behind the rifle scope came a slightly excited feminine voice, "The target is indeed colluding with the local law enforcers...I really want to just take the shot now, and blow his brains out right in front of them."

Before she finished speaking, a firm male voice responded through the radio, "Do not act rashly, the employer’s requirement is for us to assassinate Aureliano during his speech, in front of all his followers."

"I understand, I understand."

Her finger pulled off the trigger.

According to their assumptions, Lu Xiang’s visit was due to their arrival.

An hour ago, the patrol team suddenly increased their presence in the crowded urban area, even Doug and special operation group were dispatched. This made them aware someone must have leaked the news.

But it did not deter their operation. Until now, they had faced countless strict security precautions. However, all the targets they had locked in were killed without exception.

This time wouldn’t be any different. Saying Aureliano’s identity was humble would in fact, be an understatement, considering he didn’t even have a decent bodyguard around him.

"They must be discussing it now....Huh?"

"What happened?"

The man voice anxiously asked through the radio.

"It seems there’s a problem, are they... having an internal strife?"

"Internal strife?"

"Lu Xiang seems quite angry."

"It must be because her suggestion to postpone or cancel the speech was rejected."

The man swiftly guessed the reason for their quarrel. For Lu Xiang, Aureliano’s actions undoubtedly increased the amount of work for the law enforcers.

Knowing assassins were after him but still insist on going through with the public speech, they had met quite a few of such fools before.

These naive politicians seemed to think that facing assassins bravely would garner them greater support, allowing them to be perceived as heroes by the public.

However, the reality was that it would only earn them a one-way ticket to hell.

"Ah, talks failed."

The woman’s voice was clear, unmasking her schadenfreude, "How foolish, to reject their only umbrella of protection."

Hm?

To what extent does one have to provoke her?

Through the sniper scope, the woman saw Lu Xiang got up furiously, flung the table, and even Aureliano was startled by her sudden outburst.

For a moment, she as an assassin, actually broke a sweat for the assassination target, afraid that before they make their move, the target would be shot by Lu Xiang, the principal law enforcer of District Seventeen who he had angered.

Sis, just forget about it.

Words that would have urged Lu Xiang flashed across the woman’s mind.

Fortunately, the situation in the office did not worsen. After overturning the table, Lu Xiang stared coldly at Aureliano, then left the office disregarding the mess, seemingly after hurling some harsh words.

"Captain...."

A long while after Lu Xiang left, the woman said with lingering fear, "That law enforcement principal sure has a violent temper."

"And she’s also action-oriented."

It did not take long for the male voice to come from the radio. "The law enforcers patrolling the urban area have withdrawn. looks like they truly fell out."
