At seven in the evening, Song Lan and Lu Xiang arrived as invited at Tesla Tech’s headquarters located in Zone 17.

This is also one of Zone 17’s highest landmarked buildings. Song Lan had seen many online reports about Tesla Tech and there were numerous online discussions amongst citizens about Tesla Tech.

Due to its appointment-only policy, average citizens cannot enter this building.

As an avid internet user who loved surfing the web at home, Song Lan could today represent the curious netizens exploring what this building has inside.

Upon entering, Song Lan saw a totally different scene - they were not greeted by a receptionist but rather, a floating spherical robot. The robot scanned both of them with a searchlight, recognized their visitor information and enthusiastically welcomed them in a signature synthesized electronic voice.

Before proceeding to the top floor, Tesla Tech thoughtfully arranged a short tour for both of them.

Tesla Tech has a long history. Even before the outbreak of the Third War, their business operations had spread across the globe. Anticipating the conflict, the previous company’s leader shifted focus from transportation and consumer goods to military production. This decision led to successful wealth accumulation for Tesla Tech.

As one of the few corporations that managed to outlast the lengthy war, Tesla Tech was amongst the advocates for the establishment of the United Government post-war. They still hold a very high standing within the United Government today.

However, Song Lan wasn’t too interested in corporate history, so he selectively ignored it. What really sparked his interest was the technology exhibit of Tesla Tech.

During their earnest explanation by the spherical robot guide, he stopped outside a large glass exhibit, locked eyes with a gold python that was several meters long inside.

They were separated only by the glass, the giant python occasionally hissed at him with its forked tongue and its slender tail wagged happily as if it were a pet dog.

"This is Tesla Tech’s biological technology."

Noticing Song Lan’s curious expression, the spherical robot began yet another enthusiastic explanation. "This tech was developed by our BioTech department. The chip could simulate animal behaviors. Its use is quite popular in the central region, unless the customer specifically asks for it, the aggressive behaviors are automatically deleted. We can also customize the appearances and personalities of the pets per your requirements and create a unique pet just for you."

Tesla Tech’s BioTech exhibition showcased all kinds of different animals in each glass container.

Not just limited to common pets like dogs and cats, there were also various large wild animals.

If it wasn’t for the spherical robot repeatedly paralleling these creatures as BioTech engineered pets, one might mistake these for actual living creatures.

For those from the year 2020 who have frequented zoos, it was hard to tell any difference from their appearances.

After his arrival in the year 2166, the only animals Song Lan saw were dogs that were used as guard dogs or police dogs. He still hasn’t heard of anyone keeping pets in Zone 17.

The internet was filled with different views toward animals compared to the year 2020. It seemed the collective apathy could be attributed to the extinction of many creatures from Song Lan’s memory owing to the Third War. A majority of people did not maintain a friendly attitude towards animals due to this.

The main reason was that most animals that survived the war mutated, they’ve grown ferocious. News of exploring teams, or Gold Seekers falling victim to animal attacks, populated discussions around "outside" animals. The talks closely resembled ghost stories to Song Lan.

However, it wasn’t the lifelike animals that shocked him. When passing by another display, he couldn’t help but stop in his tracks.

The display exhibited a female with a captivating allure.

The female figure displayed human upper body covered with scale-like clothing, and a snake tail that vividly extended for several meters as a lower half. As Song Lan walked past, the Python Girl in the showcase closed her eyes and smiled, playfully flashing two sharp fangs at him.

Following this showcase, the bioengineering exhibits became increasingly fantastical.

Cat-girl, fox-girl, centaur...

In sum, this place showcased everything Song Lan discretely explored in the year 2020.

The journey from animals to mythical creatures, from mythical creatures to humans made him witness an utterly different evolutionary chain.

The Bio-Tech of the year 2166 was terribly impressive!

Song Lan couldn’t help but marvel at the rapid pace of technological development, while Lu Xiang began frowning without his notice.

"In Zones 3, 5 and 11, the applications of humanoid technologies are common. In other zones, the United Government has enacted laws banning humanoid workers. In these areas, humanoids usually take on roles of domestic help or companions."

"The ones we just saw were..."

"Those were second-generation humanoid models customized with animal-like biological chips as per the client’s request. Depending on the client’s needs, we can give the humanoid the features of a pet or a companion."

Companion?

Lu Xiang narrowed his eyes and said, "It’s getting late. Let’s not keep the CEO waiting."

"Understood, I’m calculating the route ... Navigation’s done, please follow me."

A few minutes later, they followed the spherical robot to a reception hall at the top floor of Tesla Tech’s building.

"Registering visitor information. Time: 7:37 PM, Visitor Count: 2. Navigation service completed. I am your guide Nami, thank you for using our service, we hope you have a wonderful evening!"

After leaving this message, the spherical robot’s searchlight returned to its original blue hue, displayed a "(^▽^*)" emoticon on the screen and returned to the elevator.

"Director Lu, Chief Song, we hope you were satisfied with our guide service."

Waiting in the reception hall was a man donned in a suave suit.

The man looks quite young, just over thirty.

However, he wore a semi-transparent lens over his right eye. The lens seemed to display light blue text, akin to a power level scanning device.

"Allow me to introduce myself, I am Gao Yuan, the person in charge of Tesla Tech in Zone 17."

"Nice to meet you."

"Please follow me. I’ve arranged a special dinner for both of you."

With that, he led the way into the dining hall.

Dinner?

This was the first time Song Lan had the chance to experience food outside of his home in Zone 17.

Just as one would expect from one of the largest corporations under the United Government.

He couldn’t help but be in awe of the different world hidden within this building. Compared to the world outside in Zone 17, the innovation within was like stepping half a century into the future.
