Chapter 1200: Chapter 989: Fully Prepared_2
On this early morning, Song Lan encountered a familiar figure while walking downstairs.
The roar of a hovering car came from above his head, and what met his eyes was the man who still maintained the demeanor of a workplace elite. The moment the man saw Song Lan through the car window, he skillfully concealed the disgust emanating from deep within.
"Good morning, Wi, Wi..."
"Wicks."
The man adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses and spoke indifferently.
"Mr. Wicks, are you here for an inspection again? As you can see, I’m training for the upcoming battle."
Today’s training involved walking around the neighborhood complex for three laps.
Lu Xiang had said that moderate exercise helps with physical health and can also somewhat alleviate his chronic back pain. During this month-long paid leave, she had devised a detailed exercise plan for Song Lan.
"No longer needed."
"Oh, I almost forgot, you’re no longer working at the Review Meeting; you were transferred to military technology a few days ago. That’s a promotion, isn’t it? Congratulations."
Upon hearing this, the man frowned, his expression becoming significantly fiercer.
Over this period, he and Mr. Wicks had become old acquaintances. Whenever there was new information from the Review Meeting, Mr. Wicks would rush to his home in a hovering car; even Grandpa Li had memorized who he was.
Song Lan had witnessed the change in Wicks’ attitude, which was a microcosm of the last batch of supporters.
From the initial theory of "gunmen and guns," they shifted to "urgent, please act immediately," and then to the pleading "please, there’s hardly any time left." Just a few days ago, after the founder of military technology was admitted to the ICU due to his excessive temper following a meeting with him, this most loyal secretary finally turned a corner.
Lu Xiang mentioned that Mr. Wicks submitted his resignation to the Review Meeting that evening, then armed with a syringe of nutrients, he stormed alone into Zero’s office at military technology.
Afterward, he joined the company’s board and temporarily replaced the ICU-admitted founder, taking charge of public relations for military technology.
Although his rank hadn’t changed, he now held substantial authority.
"Minister Zero wishes to meet with you; it shouldn’t take up too much of your time."
Wicks shifted to the side, allowing Song Lan to see another familiar face sitting beside him.
The new head of security at military technology, "Wild Bone," was also involved in this operation, his old friend scanning him with prosthetic eyes emitting a faint blue glow.
Song Lan once again calmly boarded the back seat of the hovering car; this place had almost become his personal spot lately.
Zero’s invitation was within his expectations and had come later than he anticipated.
It seemed they had finally cleared all hurdles and were now free to deal with a "destabilizing element" like him.
Upon reflection, this was his first visit to the military technology headquarters building.
He usually just caught a glimpse of this tall building from afar while hitching a ride on Lu Xiang’s hovering car after work in the evenings.
No matter the time, the building was always brightly lit, with workers inside laboring day and night, bearing a greater mission than other companies; each weapon they developed and manufactured directly affected the military power of the United Government.
Upon entering, Zero was already waiting at the entrance.
In her usual white lab coat and light makeup to hide her dark circles, she looked no different from when they had last met.
"Welcome."
Zero came forward, signaling with her eyes for the others to leave. In no time, Wicks and the others left, leaving only the mountain-like steel body of "Wild Bone" meticulously handling security work behind them.
If Wicks had his way, he wouldn’t want to spend another moment with Song Lan.
"I never thought we’d meet this way in the end."
Zero spoke reflectively.
They had imagined over a hundred scenarios for meeting Song Lan; it could have been on a battlefield littered with corpses and bones or atop a ruin, but none included such a peaceful beginning.
One major reason for all their plans progressing smoothly was Song Lan himself, who had been passively neglecting work from the very beginning, didn’t play any active role, and even infuriated the founder of military technology enough to land him in the ICU.
It wasn’t an exaggeration to say it was like, injuring the enemy 0, self-damage 12000.
In fact, most of their plans were made with Song Lan as the hypothetical enemy, predicting that once war broke out, according to the RT1, the only outcome would be destruction for The First Region and other major cities where companies were based. Hence, from the onset, they prepared asset and production material transfers, and numerous post-war reconstruction plans.
Zero didn’t really understand Song Lan; the only intelligence military technology possessed was that this man could instantly kill "Wild Bone" when in rampage mode. According to RT1’s assessment, Song Lan was undoubtedly the most formidable enemy they had ever faced.
She scrutinized Song Lan’s face for a long moment.
In front of her, the most dangerous person of the United Government yawned, appearing not fully awake.
