Chapter 1180: Chapter 981: Several Methods to Summon the Devil
Below the moonlight, atop the glittering skyscrapers, two destined rivals met.
The orange glow of lights cast upon them, as Angle stood mere meters apart from Benjamin, but this time, it felt as though he had stepped back into reality from a world of magic—the omnipresent "E" key had disappeared, and the half-eaten pizza on the hotel table no longer came with a prompt to restore health.
Angle was well aware that, for an old soldier like Benjamin who had been to war, the threat of a gun barrel was quite limited, but beyond that, he could think of no other method.
Ironically, as a first-class agent at the Bureau of Anomalous Investigation, his situation was more dangerous than that of a terrorist.
The Bureau had discovered that he had broken out of prison and sent out a specialized capture team.
This was exactly what the higher-ups wanted to see—since the suspect had escaped and was carrying lethal weapons, they had a solid reason to shoot him dead on the spot.
The Bureau was always merciless when it came to "cleaning up traitors," and Angle had witnessed many agents, declared as deserters, being killed before even making it to the tribunal.
"Angle Saffire, I fancy you."
Benjamin, composed as ever, as if he were the one holding a gun and in control of the situation, said, "Since going back to the Bureau is no longer an option, why not join me? We are in need of people with ambition like yours right now."
"People with ambition? You mean carrying out acts of terrorism in The First Region?"
"It seems there’s quite a misunderstanding between us. The true terror has never been what we do," Benjamin stated.
"Psychics, they are the real enemy, and I simply came to recognize their true nature earlier than all of you."
"You have 1 minute to tell me where you placed the explosives," Angle harshly interrupted him.
He didn’t have time to listen to Benjamin’s nonsense. Before coming upstairs, with the help of the "E" key, he had hacked into the internal communications of the Peacekeeping Forces and learned that they had evacuated the civilians and intercepted the convoy.
But other than that, there wasn’t much good news.
The bomb squad had cleared every vehicle, conducting meticulous searches, yet they found no traces of explosives.
Some had started to suspect that they might have received false information, that there were actually no bombs placed in those vehicles at all.
"Don’t you understand yet? I have not planted any bombs. The ones truly wanting to carry out a terrorist attack in this city aren’t me."
If one wishes a lie to be believed, they must first persuade themselves.
And for Benjamin Abell, he believed wholeheartedly in his actions, not considering them acts of terrorism—helping the United Government and even humanity to see the true face of Psychics was a noble and urgent cause.
"Do you remember the extremist Psychic organization I mentioned to you before? They are the ones wanting to blow up the entire commercial district. Do you really think you can continue to treat Psychics like Little Mice without repercussions?"
That mysterious partner had already prepared everything for him.
No, rather, what he had just described was indeed the reality.
Years later, people would forever remember this day as one staged by those flying the banner of "Psychic Supremacy" for a terrorist attack.
Angle’s brows were tightly furrowed.
If this were a normal time, he would have sent Benjamin to the Bureau immediately.
There were many methods in the Bureau’s interrogation room that could coax him to speak. However, now the most likely scenario was getting shot by a sniper on his way to the Bureau.
This forced him to continue along Benjamin’s line of discourse, "Psychic abilities, what grudge do you hold against them?"
Before this, he had perused numerous files, noticing an emerging civilian organization targeting Psychics, calling themselves The Keeper.
Their actions against Psychics were not driven by gain but by more pure personal emotions.
Hatred, anger, fear.
Hence, they would often resort to vigilantism in killing Psychics, with some autopsy reports showing that the victims had been tortured for days before death.
Benjamin had gathered these extremely charged individuals and taught them how to combat Psychics.
"I’m pleased you asked, it seems our conversation is finally making progress," Benjamin said with a slight smile. He had intended to discuss this with Angle back at the Royal Margaret Hotel, but the abrupt arrival of the counter-terrorism unit and Bureau agents had disrupted their talk, "You must have heard about the year-long war initiated by the United Army."
Angle neither confirmed nor denied.
He also knew that Benjamin was among the soldiers sent to the front line.
However, there were many grey areas in the records of that war. The catalyst for the war was the coup that took place in the city where the United Army’s "external" manufacturing plants were located, with the Rebel Army breaking into the factory, taking workers hostage, and stealing a significant cache of arms.
These soldiers were sent under the guise of helping the local government quell the disturbances, but if you delved deeper...
"The time has passed, hasn’t it?"
