Chapter 1152: Chapter 968: Deeper Part_2
Ever since the style of the device holding Vadim changed, it transformed into a peculiar nurturing game. After his encounter with the mysterious merchant, he no longer died but managed to subdue three other Aberrations by feeding them food.
For a person with normal thought processes, everything displayed by the device was undoubtedly revolutionary, and it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to describe it as mental contamination.
After watching for a while, Qi He even started to doubt whether, if the right food was chosen, the Aberrations and Devourers could indeed show their cute and docile side.
The urge to collect bubbled up in him, to the point where he began to plan, after getting out of prison, to personally visit Archbishop Helifis of the Lunar Eclipse Sect and spend a hefty sum of money to buy some Aberrations from the Lunar Eclipse Sect’s mines to raise at home.
If the Aberrations could follow commands, they would undoubtedly make excellent pets.
Easy to care for, with astonishing combat power, and after evolving several times, they might even develop impressive appearances.
It seemed as if the heavens had heard his wishes because the opportunity to leave was laid out right before their eyes.
Perhaps due to the power outage, the lockdown system went out of control. The isolation door that kept them trapped in the room lost its function, and the corridor outside was shrouded in darkness. The faint light from their cell phones was not enough to illuminate the path, but the guards in charge of "looking after" them had disappeared without a trace for some unknown reason.
Qi He stood at the door and called out a few times, but he got no response.
"The people above are fighting."
After a while, Gustav opened his eyes. He was drenched in sweat, using Spiritual Energy had drained him of a lot of strength.
This wasn’t his first attempt. Yet previous explorations using Psychic Abilities had ended in failure. The space they were in was intriguing, it was as if anti-psychic fields had been set up in all directions, preventing his Psychic Abilities from extending through the cracks in the walls and doors.
Only after the power outage did this obstructed feeling slightly improve.
"The prisoners in C Zone have started a riot, what should we do now?"
"Let’s go out and see."
"Are you sure that’s a good idea?"
Gustav questioned.
In his view, the riot above would not last long. Despite their current overwhelming numerical advantage, it was ultimately nothing more than a crowd acting on impulse. They were oblivious to what was happening in this facility; the prisoners could not even dream that someone was conducting research beyond reason in D Zone.
And the instigator of all this was none other than the ruler who had originally established D Zone.
"He’s different from those prisoners, same kind as Song Lan. That’s what you’ve said yourself."
The more chaotic it got, the more cautious Gustav felt, "If your speculation is correct, together Anjing and I won’t be a match for him."
As for Qi He’s own combat abilities, that could almost be described as negligible.
Even Gustav and Anjing, who had always been his companions, couldn’t see through him—Qi He was not a Psychic, yet he firmly spoke of liberating all Psychics.
Whenever they tried to delve into the reasons, Qi He would brush them off.
Qi He never talked about his past either, the only thing they could do is rely on the archives recorded by the Foundation Council to know that Qi He was born into a family of corporate executives. From a young age, he received the most orthodox elite education and was the quintessential corporate man.
Qi He excelled in his studies and demonstrated strong leadership abilities... In short, the identity of a company representative seemed tailor-made for him. Anyone who saw his impressive resume would only sigh and say that this young man was destined to become a company representative.
Before his visit to the Purple Wisteria School due to the Foundation’s work, Qi He had never had any contact with Psychics. It was such a corporate elite who suddenly harbored the ideal of liberating Psychics, even at the cost of going against the Foundation’s interests.
Although Gustav didn’t spell it out, everyone was well aware that this time they were just under house arrest instead of being silenced, and it must have been the result of negotiations by Qi He’s parents in the Foundation Council.
Unfortunately, the young Qi He seemed to have learned nothing from the lesson. Even when locked up in prison, he remained restless.
"There’s no need to sell yourself short in front of us, Gustav."
Qi He patted his shoulder, "We all know you’ve been hiding your true strength all this time. If the Foundation issued an electronic combat power ranking, you’d be at least above T1—the evidence being the time you alone held off Song Lan for a full half-hour, a feat no one else has ever achieved."
The Morger Family hasn’t, the Iris Consortium hasn’t, even the Tide Master hasn’t.
If you look at their relationship through the lens of combat power, it’s easy to conclude that Gustav’s strength far surpasses that of the Tide Master who has survived for thousands of years!
What an immense strength that is!
"Now is not the time for jokes, you know the reason behind it!"
Gustav’s vision darkened, his ability to "tie" with Song Lan was entirely because Song Lan was more receptive to soft tactics rather than hard ones, making gift-giving tactics especially effective against him.
However, this tactic was far too situational, if put in the setting of a game it would belong to the category of "seems powerful, but is mostly ineffective" trash skills.
At the very least, Gustav dared to assert that the ruler here wouldn’t accept his gifts like Song Lan would.
"Don’t be agitated, Gustav, I’m just lightening the mood. You’ve been so tense since you came here, that’s not good for your health."
"Qi He resorts to this approach when he encounters questions he does not wish to answer."
The tranquil tone carried little emotional fluctuation, making it difficult to discern whether she was making a sarcastic remark or stating a fact.
Qi He’s diversionary tactics were anything but clever; for someone adept at navigating the workplace, to describe his tactics as clumsy wouldn’t be an overstatement.
Yet, despite this, people often refrain from probing further due to his status.
"Anjing truly understands me. Anyway, you all can witness that I’ve already asked the guard for permission to go out and keep watch. The guard didn’t answer me, and silence is tantamount to consent—should the ruler pursue the matter later, the responsibility would be equally shared. The final outcome would simply be a compromise where we all step back and return to our rooms as if nothing happened."
Anjing ignored Qi He.
She leaned on a wooden chair, gazing into the darkness outside the door—a position she had maintained for the past minute.
It was when the conversation between Gustav and Qi He had just begun.
Qi He would not voice his true inner thoughts, so she needed to understand his decisions through his expressions and words.
For instance, why Qi He was so eager to leave the room, risking the unknown.
He was never the type to make snap decisions when confronted with emergencies.
After leaving the room, what were they to do, where was their destination, and how would they deal with the potential danger?
These were all questions that needed careful consideration, yet Qi He had summarily described them as "exploration," no wonder Gustav found the decision unreliable.
So, Anjing found the answer in Qi He’s pupils.
Reflected in those dark pupils were the faint light of a cellphone and Gustav’s stifled expression.
But beyond that, there was a fleeting shadow.
A pale color, intermittently visible in the deep darkness.
Qi He had clearly seen that shadow and, during his conversation with Gustav, he had looked over there five times under the guise of nonchalance.
However, when Anjing followed Qi He’s gaze, only boundless darkness waited outside the door.
The emergence of the pale figure threw everything into ambiguous chaos.
Qi He saw something that both she and Gustav, the bodyguards, could not and remained silent about it to both of them.
"What did you see?"
Anjing asked.
Silence was her answer.
Gustav seemed to sense something and furrowed his brows, staring long into the depths of the darkness without discovering anything.
This time, Qi He did not divert the subject; his silence answered the doubts in both their hearts.
"I understand."
After an indeterminable period, Gustav broke the deathly stillness of the room, "Since the responsibility is fifty-fifty, let’s go out and have a look."
