Chapter 1105: Chapter 948: The Witness
Benjamin Abell’s true identity is that of a man with a very dark beard.
After hearing this, Lu Xiang carefully compared it to the photo recorded in the Counter-Intelligence Department’s files.
The dense mutton chop sideburns, the exceptionally fierce gaze; considering the Keeper was once a criminal organization certified by the United Government, it’s no wonder they refused to reveal their true face before the negotiation conditions were agreed upon.
Psychic hunters cast a wide net in their hunt, targeting not only the "external" Psychics but also many members of the rescuer department. Initially, people thought they were a group of neutral organizations similar to mercenaries. However, as the number of deaths increased and the methods of executing Psychics became more brutal, intelligence personnel discovered that this organization was formed by a group of extremists who hated Psychics.
They had once staged a massive "Witch Hunt Movement" in the 22nd century, and Psychics were regarded as evil "witches" by the Keepers.
During the peak of Keeper activities, Benjamin’s bounty even reached an eight-digit figure, rivaling that of Rebel Army leaders in the "external" world.
"How did you know his beard is so dark? Have you dealt with him?"
With Song Lan’s penchant for making friends, Lu Xiang felt it wasn’t impossible—after all, Benjamin had lived through the dark era and had vanished along with its downfall, only to re-emerge from their sarcophagi like slumbering Keepers following the turmoil in The First Region.
"No."
Song Lan quickly shook his head. He was a law-abiding good citizen. How could he possibly know these extremely vicious criminals?
He explained, "It’s just a pattern. People with very dark beards who like cherry pies and are missing a few teeth tend to be formidable conspirators."
"Then do tell, what’s Benjamin’s conspiracy?"
"Using Angle as a bargaining chip to negotiate with the United Government, to gain the opportunity to infiltrate the prison, with the purpose of freeing the prisoners locked in the deepest level of the jail."
"Free the prisoners? Even if he could do it, what’s in it for him?"
Lu Xiang was feeling a mix of emotions at the moment.
Dumb Bird was always like this, making seemingly flippant and arbitrary conclusions that could, in fact, turn out to be the truth.
"To build a new pirate... Keeper crew!"
"I have one last question."
Lu Xiang let out a long sigh. The word "pirate" laid bare Song Lan’s thoughts, "What you just mentioned, was it the plot from that comic book before?"
General Borusalino was a character from that comic book. According to Song Lan, this comic book was very popular before the third war, reaching a level of household familiarity. However, like many other works, it disappeared with the third war. She had searched a lot on shopping websites and couldn’t find this comic book called "Sea X King."
"Yes."
Song Lan admitted openly, "These lost works could provide some references for us."
"Yes, but Review Meeting won’t believe such reasons."
This was precisely what troubled Lu Xiang the most. However, she felt she couldn’t blame the Review Meeting—how could those who didn’t know Song Lan believe his twisted and strange theories?
Thinking that Dumb Bird is speaking the truth is one of the symptoms of being infected by the salted fish virus.
In this regard, Lu Xiang felt even she herself was irredeemably sick.
She was now actually planning to believe, based on a comic from before the third war, that Benjamin Abell harbored grand plans to instigate an uprising at the most heavily guarded place of the United Government.
"Reason tells me that I shouldn’t so easily believe your nonsense."
Lu Xiang clenched her teeth, her eyebrows knotted together, "You need to provide some more convincing evidence."
"Dry pot potatoes for dinner?"
"I’ll think about how to convince Review Meeting of your speculation."
In front of the iron pot-fried potatoes, Lu Xiang finally wavered, "But the Review Meeting will most likely agree to Benjamin’s request; Keepers’ past actions have offended quite a few major corporations, and they would love nothing more than for this person to rot forever behind bars."
And to ensure foolproof safety, the Review Meeting will most likely request that the H1 Department take over the transport.
After reaching a preliminary consensus, the two adopted a divide-and-conquer strategy once again—Lu Xiang was responsible for staying at the Counter-Intelligence Department to concoct stories, while Song Lan was tasked with sneaking into the agricultural market in the western district of The First Region, attempting to obtain high-quality, non-synthetically produced potatoes.
But things often don’t go as well as expected.
When Song Lan emerged from the agricultural product market, an unwelcome guest stood between him and MK-III, a female wearing a mask and a duckbill cap, whose hoodie outline suggested her gender.
Upon seeing Song Lan, she immediately spoke up, "Mr. Song Lan, I have some important information that you would definitely be interested in."
With these words, the afternoon was destined not to be peaceful.
A breeze swept through, suddenly filling the not-so-busy agricultural market with the scent of gunpowder.
But the slim woman did not back down, and she summoned courage to look directly into Song Lan’s eyes.
"You’re that confident?"
"I’m certain."
"Then tell me."
After pondering for a moment, if there was any information that could pique his interest now...
"What is the grand finale of ’Sea X King’?"
"Eh?"
The female was caught off guard by this unexpected question, and although Song Lan’s tricky questions continued, "Don’t know? No matter, I can ask another question—what is the true identity of the Black Organization’s leader?"
