Chapter 1095: Chapter 943: Have you heard of the Heart Piercing Hand Blade? _2
This was the most unworthy expenditure he had made this year!
Not only had he failed to experience the joy of spending lavishly, but he also felt like someone had played a trick on him.
"Kid, it’s already pretty generous of me not to ask for more money."
Elmon crossed his arms over his chest, "You never mentioned that Anfiya’s parents had such a significant background. I had to rack my brains to save your life, and according to market rates, this job should cost this much."
He gestured with his hands, indicating an eight-figure number.
When he met Song Lan in the conference room, he had already prepared his set of excuses.
Due to work, he often contacted middlemen, and he knew quite a few renowned brokers in The First Region; each one could testify to the truth of his words.
If you call them to take on the head of the Homeland Security Bureau’s H1 Department with an "expensive" price of 15000 watts, those people wouldn’t say a word and would blacklist you immediately.
This young master seemed not to recognize Song Lan’s identity, which might be related to his ongoing psychological treatment, as his concept of time had become vague. According to the head teacher, he had only returned to school yesterday.
It was said that the medication used in psychological treatment often turned a person’s brain into mush, and in his view, this young master didn’t seem too bright, "I hear your family is military. Think carefully, how much money is her military-grade cybernetic body worth? As far as I know, most of the United Government’s frontline forces can’t afford such costly cybernetic implants."
"Anfiya... what exactly is her background?"
The boy was naturally scared already.
But before Anfiya revealed her thermal energy blade and activated the overload system, who could have guessed that a transfer student from a border city was equipped with more advanced cybernetics than even the regular army?
If they had known Anfiya had upgraded herself like some cyber-crazed fanatic, how could they have dared to provoke such a person?
"There are some things you’re better off not knowing."
Elmon looked up at the darkening sky solemnly, "otherwise, there’s no guarantee you won’t end up as one of the missing persons in The First Region when you head back to your dorm today, I hear you have some connections at home, so you should know how many people have disappeared in The First Region over the past few months."
The boy shrank his neck, his shivering becoming more apparent.
"After all, you also spent 15000 watts, if you’re really curious, I could reveal some details."
Elmon said, "The way people do things in District 17 is different from here; they rarely talk idly and don’t believe in beating someone up as a warning. Once they decide to act, you’re already dead."
"Are they... special agents?"
The boy considered and felt that it could only be one of the United Government’s secret special agent departments that would modify a girl his age to that extent.
Even the fact that Anfiya came to study at Newster had become intriguing.
He had occasionally heard about such departments at home, infiltrating the vicinity of their target to get close, a common tactic of secret agents.
At the start of the parents’ meeting, he had also observed the "father" who came to attend for Anfiya.
He was much younger than he had imagined, and didn’t even look like her father; describing him as an older brother would seem more appropriate given their age difference.
This thought made the boy’s hair stand on end.
Elmon didn’t deny it, he then asked, "Have you heard of the Heart Piercing Hand Blade?"
The boy shook his head blankly.
"Then you must have heard about a piece of news, not long ago... on the day the High-level Parliament was established, right when The First Region plunged into turmoil, the Secretary-General was found dead in his office. Supposedly, that place had the highest level security system of the entire United Government, but by the time people found him, the Secretary-General was already dead."
Elmon deliberately paused, then continued, "However, most reports omitted the state of the body when found—his chest was pierced through, and you could clearly see the scene through the hole on the other side. Such a level of injury, even with subdermal armor implanted, wouldn’t have mitigated any damage."
"You, you mean..."
"I really picked up a life there."
During the conversation, Yaku walked towards the railing nearby, leaned his arms on it, and gazed down at the slowly dispersing crowd below.
Luxury cars parked at the school were successively leaving. After the parent-teacher meeting, some were joyful, others distressed, and he could see some parents, faces ashen, calling their children to their hover cars, where Yaku could imagine they’d face a harsh beating once the doors shut.
Soon, the school would become quiet as usual.
"It’s good news for you, it seems they decided not to lay hands on you for some reason."
Yaku said, "Otherwise, we wouldn’t be meeting like this but in the morgue, where the autopsy report would show your body found in a dormitory or storage room, with a fatal penetrating wound to the chest, death presumed instantaneous."
He noticed the boy shiver, then, in a comforting manner, patted his shoulder, "Let’s close this case. Stay away from that girl from now on, and enjoy the little of your school life that’s left. After all, schools are still much safer than the outside."
.....................
Despite some minor incidents, the parent-teacher meeting went rather smoothly.
When he got home, Song Lan told Lu Xiang about the minor friction among the children.
It’s normal for kids to be a bit rough, especially now in 2167, manners have degraded much since before the Third War, it’s hard to expect any school to be free of bullying, even the Psychic Abilities academy like Purple Wisteria which claims to admit solely based on talent and is impervious to any connections.
"Don’t you scold her? Anyway, showing a thermal energy blade at school isn’t a good thing."
Lu Xiang furrowed her brows.
She hadn’t expected that in her absence from the parent-meeting, little Anfiya would stir up such a commotion.
"After the meeting, I took her and Elmon for a meal nearby, the class teacher said her academics are fine, but if Anjing were there, maybe this wouldn’t have happened."
Originally, they had planned to transfer Anjing’s enrollment to The First Region too, but trustworthy Mr. Gustav sent a message just as they were to leave the Seventeenth Region, claiming Qi He had recently faced some difficulties at work and needed to urgently recall Anjing to the Ragus Foundation.
Anjing is best at interference-type Spiritual Energy, ideal for handling school disputes without leaving traces.
But back in the Seventeenth Region, Anfiya was quite popular and naturally, she wasn’t a target for bullying.
"I didn’t mean that."
Lu Xiang pondered, "Let me personally teach her some hand-to-hand combat skills during this winter break. There are plenty of ways in this world to teach someone a lesson without resorting to augments."
She was, after all, an expert in that area.
There was an entire course on Interrogation at Morning Star, where United Government’s intelligence personnel were trained in much more refined and complex skills, especially in the art of interrogation.
They needed to ensure the interrogated felt enough pain but not leave visible injuries or endanger their lives.
Those methods that randomly shatter someone’s kneecaps or pull out fingernails were long obsolete, looked down upon by professionals. In their view, such were the methods of street thugs and "external" warlords, stuck at the barbaric stage.
"Anfiya is still attending school, can’t leave too visible injuries on anyone."
Using her methods, one could ensure no evidence was left when someone sought accountability.
"Old Lu..."
Hearing this, Song Lan couldn’t help but interject, "I feel like you’re going off-track."
"Not at all."
Lu Xiang shook her head, "If you stay silent about such things, they’ll keep bullying you."
