Chapter 1087: Chapter 939: War God Wild Bone_2
Yaku took a deep breath, believing he had mentally prepared himself.
But when he saw the densely packed text on the list, his young heart was still unavoidably shocked.
Apart from the anti-psychic abilities field and the overload system, Wild Bone possessed up to 42 different abilities!
He found himself recalling the feeling of collecting strategies online to defeat a Boss, and Wild Bone was undoubtedly the most powerful Boss he had ever encountered, making him at one point suspect that there were problems with the Boss’s stats and mechanics that theoretically made it impossible to defeat.
Thinking back to that face which had lost all human features, resembling that of a Terminator, he felt goosebumps all over his body.
Yaku suspected that, after leaving the laboratory today, he was likely to dream of Wild Bone for the coming month.
Meanwhile, in the "Watching Hall," Song Lan also experienced a deep shock.
Today’s Wild Bone stood in the center of the battlefield like a war deity.
Although it was nominally an internal fight among the Six Stars rescuers, he was clearly much stronger than Rose and Yaku. In the recent battle, Rose had used every trick in the book but still could not fully test the capabilities of Wild Bone’s cyborg body.
This made Song Lan reminisce about his own encounter with Wild Bone under the moonlight.
His friend Wild Bone, was he really this powerful?
"How do you feel, Minister Song?"
The person in charge of the research institution was a woman in her thirties, about the same age as Falena. Having been colleagues, Falena had mentioned the existence of this secret department more than once.
All staff called into this department had to sign a series of strict confidentiality agreements, and they were also required to install tracking and listening systems. All of their research involved the most core secrets of military technology, and the company would not allow any of this technology to be leaked.
This researcher, known as "Zero," was once a member of the founding team of military technology. The reason time had not left its mark on her face was that she was among the first batch of trial users for "mechanization."
In pursuit of immortality, the company had proposed a plan to upload human consciousness to the network and download it into new bodies upon finding suitable ones.
Zero’s body was a custom design created by military technology.
This put her in a state between humans and artificial intelligence.
"As strong as a monster; I never imagined you could create such humanoid weapons."
"Actually, there isn’t much point in continuing the experiment."
Zero watched as Yaku returned to the battlefield. Compared to his eager anticipation from before, Yaku’s steps now seemed tentative, and he no longer had the spirited demeanor.
This indicated that in his heart, he didn’t believe he could defeat Wild Bone.
Low morale, plus his abilities being sealed off...
"Although he is also a member of the Six Stars rescuers, I always feel that regardless of how many times he tries, the result will be the same with his current state."
Zero appeared no longer satisfied with mere observation. She reached out, attempting to pinch Song Lan’s arm.
On alert, Song Lan immediately dodged away.
Now a married man, how could he afford to be touchy with a strange woman in public?
"Please don’t misunderstand, I just wanted to confirm if you, Minister Song, had undergone cybernetic enhancements."
Zero explained with a smile, "After all, everyone says you are the strongest man of the United Government, so you should be much stronger than Wild Bone."
"You might as well speak plainly."
"We sincerely hope you could participate in one battle; by doing so we might collect even more valuable data, since the purpose of this experiment was to confront those pervasive enemies."
"Me? I’d better not."
Song Lan shook his head, "For an old guy like me, fighting and killing are really too strenuous."
"But it wasn’t long ago that you resolved the crisis at Oasis. We all witnessed the state in which you activated your abilities."
"Then you should have heard that the larger the coverage of abilities, the more they consume psychic energy, right?"
"Indeed,"
"I’ve depleted too much Spiritual Energy in the matter of Oasis, and am now in a period of recuperation."
Song Lan hoped to politely refuse the representative of the company’s secret department and once again resort to his special skill of "feigning illness."
Regrettably, Zero was the kind of person who wouldn’t take no for an answer. She immediately said, "That’s even better. I was actually worried that you would defeat Wild Bone too quickly, which would prevent us from being able to assess the specific data."
During the conversation, Yaku was once again awkwardly carried out of the simulation training field by the staff. This time, the duration was even shorter than before, so much so that Song Lan couldn’t help but suspect Zero’s earlier comments were a veiled criticism, insinuating that the title of Six Stars rescuer was undeserved for Yaku, who couldn’t even provide effective data for the experiments.
"It’s an inevitable outcome."
Zero noticed Song Lan’s look and said, "Minister Song, do you know what 100% mechanical transformation means? Although it appears to be only a 1% difference in the data, the reality is a world apart."
"Please explain."
"A 100% mechanical transformation means that Wild Bone will completely abandon human thinking and adopt the nearly absolute rationality of artificial intelligence. Perhaps we should thank Esinvig. Without him, this transformation wouldn’t have gone as smoothly... We had proposed the transformation to him personally several times but were rejected."
The original Wild Bone did not wish to be fully mechanized, maintaining the last vestige of human thought was his final bottom line.
"In our view, human emotions only play negative roles in combat. To a wholly mechanical being, the world in his eyes becomes data. And, after the recent fight, Rose and Yaku have already become part of the database. With the increase of battle frequency, the gap between them will only widen. This is where machinery far surpasses the human brain."
Zero continued to expound on her theory. "It’s not that Wild Bone grows stronger with combat but that he can quickly adapt to his opponent’s abilities and combat style. Once data is entered into the database, he can run countless simulations within the system."
Take Rose, for example.
While she was recuperating in the medical facility, Wild Bone had already fought her thousands of times within the system’s simulations.
"This is a decisive gap caused by experience... Minister Song, what are you doing?"
When Zero looked towards Song Lan, she found that he seemed uninterested in her theory. Instead, he took out his phone, and its content seemed to have him deeply concerned.
"Old Lu says she has to work overtime tonight. I’ll have to attend the parent-teacher meeting alone."
The parent-teacher meetings were usually attended by Lu Xiang, and Song Lan had to emphasize that it wasn’t that he was irresponsible, but rather Lu Xiang suspected he would get distracted at the meetings and miss important notices, so she took it upon herself.
Just now, Lu Xiang had sent a text to inform him that the Counter-Intelligence Department had received an important piece of intelligence, necessitating her to work late into the night at the department.
"Parent-teacher meeting?"
"I might have to leave early."
"Before that, Minister Song, what are your thoughts on my theory?"
"Your theory isn’t wrong, but you are overlooking the power of bonds."
As he spoke, Song Lan called out to MK-III.
For Anfiya and the little one Elmon, this was their first parent-teacher meeting since they arrived in The First Region, and he had to make a good impression on the teachers.
It was clear that children’s growth was a far more pressing matter than combating Wild Bone or engaging in scientific research.
"Do you believe in those intangible powers?"
"No, bonds are very real."
Song Lan said, "Take a parent who is in a rush to attend a parent-teacher meeting, for instance. Often, they can be more than ten times stronger than in their normal state."
"I’ve never heard of such a theory before."
Zero looked thoughtful. "Well then, could you please demonstrate it for us?"
Under her persistent requests, Song Lan found himself unable to leave.
It seemed the company representative was determined today.
She appeared to signal with her eyes that no one would be getting off work until they brought Wild Bone down!
