Chapter 67: Trial Of Suppression (II)

The Construct didn’t rise. Kael took two steps back. His chest rose and fell. His lips split into a smirk, thinking he had defeated his opponent.

"Still standing," he muttered. "Still in this."

And then—

The Construct stirred.

Kael’s smile faded and his smirk turned ugly.

It rose.

The Construct’s limbs twitched, like a puppet regaining strings. Its knees cracked, arms tightening as it forced itself upright. Its head lifted slowly—those dull red eyes sparking once more.

Kael’s jaw clenched but he didn’t curse, didn’t panic. He just breathed in, shallow and focused

The thing should’ve stayed down. No—it had to stay down. But it didn’t.

The Construct stood fully again, slower than before, its stance more rigid. Its legs wobbled for the first time. The damage was showing—but it wasn’t enough.

Not yet.

Kael wiped blood from his cheek. "You stubborn pile of metal..."

This time, it didn’t charge. It walked slowly. Each of its steps was heavy and unrelenting.

Kael knew what this was. The final push. It had entered a fallback mode—burning whatever reserves it had left. That meant two things:

It would go all out. And it wouldn’t stop until one of them dropped unresponsive.

He inhaled deeply and flicked the blade once—clearing grime from its edge. His body was already beyond its limit, but his mind... that still burned.

He wouldn’t fall first.

Kael moved in—not charging, not rushing, but weaving low with quiet steps.

The Construct struck with a sweeping punch.

Kael ducked, stepped inside, and slammed his elbow into its side—twisting the blade upward at its armpit.

Clang!

The joint sparked. He’d hit something. A control node? A tendon line?

The Construct flinched. He didn’t wait.

His dagger reversed in his grip and came down hard on its collarbone.

Shhkkt!

The steel bit deep.

The Construct’s arm spasmed and dropped. Its right side—completely disabled.

Kael’s heart pounded like a war drum.

Now was the time, and he definitely wouldn’t waste this opportunity. He surged forward, unleashing everything he had left.

Slash. Thrust. Knee. Elbow.

Strike after strike rained down—no elegance now, just raw will.

The Construct tried to punch with its left, but Kael caught the arm, twisted under it, and drove his blade into its back.

Kael’s blade sank in deep—and that was when the change hit. Not the Construct... Him.

A sudden burn surged through his veins. Cold and hot all at once. His heart gave a single, massive thump—and then the world snapped into clarity.

[Eldritch Reversal Activated]

Time didn’t slow, but it felt like his thoughts moved faster than the battle. He could feel the Construct’s movements before they happened, sense the tiny shifts in balance, the coiled tension in its stance, the slight irregularity in its weight distribution.

His vision sharpened. His muscles tightened, then loosened just the right amount. Breath evened out.

Kael blinked once. Then moved.

The Construct’s remaining arm swept in a wide arc.

"Too slow."

He dipped under it, spun on the ball of his foot, and struck the back of its knee with a precision that made the joint buckle outright.

It dropped to one knee.

Kael was already in the air.

He came down hard—blade-first—aiming straight for the neck seam just beneath the helmet rim.

Crack!

Steel split and sparks burst out like fireflies.

The Construct jerked violently, its body seizing as Kael twisted the blade, then yanked it free. He didn’t wait to see if it stopped.

He pivoted and drove his heel into its back.

The Construct slammed into the ground and laid still—

It tried to rise.

Kael watched as it propped itself up, one arm dragging, its joints twitching. Its entire posture now screamed desperation.

But Kael wasn’t desperate anymore.

He could feel the power coursing through his limbs. This wasn’t some mad, wild rage. This was controlled. Clean. Razor-focused.

He took a breath—measured and calm—then walked forward.

The Construct clawed toward him, its red eyes flickering like a candle in the wind.

Kael struck.

A knee to the temple. Then another. He caught the jawline with a palm strike that snapped its head sideways.

Then he gripped the back of its head and slammed it into the floor.

Once. Twice. Three times.

Until the floor cracked. Until the body stilled.

Then—

Still burning with that unnatural clarity—he turned the Construct over and pressed his dagger against the central plating of its chest.

One clean thrust. The dagger sunk in with a crunch.

Kael held it there for a second longer than needed, then released.

Silence filled the chamber. The construct made no movements and didn’t rise back.

He backed away, chest rising and falling, body slick with blood and sweat. But now—it felt... distant. The pain was still there, but muted. His focus tunneled toward everything and nothing all at once.

[Eldritch Reversal—Time Remaining: 5 seconds.]

He closed his eyes, taking those last seconds to memorize the feeling. The weightlessness. The clarity. The sense of total, unshakable control.

Then—

It ended.

Like a tide pulling back, the strength receded from his limbs. His body shuddered. Vision swam for a heartbeat before stabilizing.

Kael dropped to one knee. Not in defeat. Just... spent.

[HP: 11%]

He breathed.

A full inhale. Then exhale. Not ragged now. Just tired.

Across from him, the Construct’s body finally began to dissolve—fragments of spiritual metal crumbling into dust and fading into the floor.

Kael looked up. Managed a short laugh—dry and low.

"Barely worth it," he muttered, but still staggered to his feet.

Then another sound echoed like metal shifting.

A doorway opened on the far end of the chamber. A tall arch, framed with runes that shimmered faintly.

He stared at it for a second and then forced one foot forward. Then another.

Each step felt like dragging a mountain, but he didn’t stop. He crossed the threshold. Behind him, the chamber sealed.
