Chapter 65: Second Floor

The silence within the chamber was deeper than before.

The system chimed.

———

[Second-Floor Trial: Trial of Suppression Initiated]

[Condition: One-on-One Battle]

[Primal Energy Restricted: Both of you will fight without primal energy, only physical strength and weapon]

[Opponent: Lvl 23 Primal Adept — Suppression Construct Initiated]

———

Kael exhaled slowly.

He already felt it.

His core dimmed, like a lid sealed over a boiling pot. The natural flow of his energy was cut off—primal energy caged, sealed completely. His body still thrummed with strength, but it was all muscle now. No surging primal force, no inner tide. Just him... and his blade.

Clack. Clack. Clack.

The sound echoed from the far end of the chamber.

Heavy footsteps.

Kael’s gaze narrowed as a figure emerged from the faint shadows. It was humanoid, tall—nearly eight feet. Muscles rippled under its silver-tinted flesh. It had no face and no armor. Just bare fists wrapped in thick leather straps and scars running across its body like burnt lightning veins.

The Construct looked... human. But it wasn’t. Its eyes glowed dull red, and its chest bore the lotus covered in flames symbol—one that flickered with each breath it took.

It didn’t speak, nor did it posture. It just started walking towards him.

Kael drew his dagger, Abyssal Fang. The moment the steel cleared its sheath, the Construct lunged.

"Fast." Kael muttered.

That was the first impression he got from the strange construct. Despite its huge frame, it was faster than anything Kael had seen from the earlier trials. And even compared to the Primal Adept bandits, it was miles ahead.

He barely tilted to the side when a fist slammed toward his ribs. The wind howled from the sheer pressure, and a few escaped his lungs.

Bang!

Kael’s feet skidded back over two meters while drawing deep footprints—[HP 94%]. His blade flashed out—a clean arc toward the construct’s midsection.

Clang!

It blocked the strike with its bare hand. Steel met flesh—but it felt like striking stone.

Sparks flew. The Construct’s eyes flickered, and it countered with a knee to Kael’s gut.

Crack!

Kael flew backward, coughing a mouthful of blood. He hit the stone wall shoulder-first and dropped to one knee—[HP 86%]

His lungs burned. That strike wasn’t just strong—it was precisely struck. Aimed just low enough to avoid his ribs, but deep enough to disrupt his breathing.

Kael wiped the blood from his mouth and stood. There was no time to think. It was already moving again.

This wasn’t a spar. It wasn’t even a fair fight. This was a battle for survival.

He gritted his teeth and pushed forward. His body was still adjusting to the Primal Warrior stage—but instincts screamed louder than thought now. His footwork tightened. His grip shifted. No more wide swings. He had to fight smart.

He ducked low as the Construct swung. The punch passed inches from his head, carving a gust of air that nearly staggered him.

Kael twisted, bringing his blade up in a rising slash toward the construct’s arm.

Clang!

The strike hit—but the flesh didn’t give. There was no cut and no blood. Just raw resistance.

The Construct raised its other arm.

"Too close." Kael raised his guard—

BOOM!

The punch slammed into his shoulder—[HP 78%]

Pain flared white-hot. Kael tumbled, rolled across the ground like a dirtbag, and barely managed to rise before the next blow came.

This time, he ducked and kicked out with full force. His boot connected with the Construct’s knee.

It staggered, just a little. Kael didn’t let the moment slip. He darted in, blade flashing in a diagonal slash.

Shhkt!

A shallow cut connected, it was barely an inch deep. But it was something.

The Construct stopped, Its glowing eyes fixed on him.

Then, slowly, its arm raised again—this time in a new stance. Defensive and guarded. Like it had learned from that prior exchange.

Kael’s lips twitched. "So it could adapt."

He cracked his neck, gripped his blade tighter, and rushed forward.

Their weapons clashed again. Fist against steel. Elbow against the shoulder. Knee against shin. The chamber echoed with the sound of raw combat—flesh striking flesh, steel grazing bone, breath rasping through clenched teeth.

Kael landed three more blows. But they were two shallow and only one decent—right across the Construct’s ribs.

But every time he hit, he paid a price in kind.

His forearm burned from blocking a brutal elbow. His jaw ached from a glancing random uppercut. His ribs screamed each time he twisted too hard.

Still, he fought undeterred.

Every movement became tighter. More refined and he slowly grew accustomed to his body’s strength. He could feel the battlefield now—not just with eyes, but with instinct. The tiniest twitch in the Construct’s shoulder told him when to dodge. The faint shift in weight let him guess its next target.

But it wasn’t enough.

After ten minutes of back-and-forth, Kael was panting. His shirt clung to his back with sweat. His sword arm trembled. Blood dripped from a cut just above his eye.

The Construct? It was still steady. Breathing like it had only just begun.

Kael spat on the ground. His chest rose and fell. "Stamina freak..."

The Construct didn’t reply. It just moved again.

Kael’s legs screamed in protest as he dodged another strike.

His body was slowing. Muscles tightening. Every movement costs more now. Even with his new trait, even with Primal Endurance... this was beyond normal.

And the worst part?

He couldn’t even rely on his energy. No burst. No reversal. Just blood, sweat, and bone.

Another blow came—Kael ducked low and rolled under it, then thrust his blade upward at the construct’s chin.

It stepped back—barely.

Still. That was new.

Kael smirked.

So even this thing had limits.

"Let’s see how much pain you can take," he whispered.

Then he moved again. This time—he didn’t aim to kill, he aimed to grind.

Each move should wear the construct down—not by power, but by rhythm. Kael circled like a wolf, every blow carving a little more from its defense.

And as the trial chamber echoed with their unending clash, only one thought burned in Kael’s mind:

’I won’t lose. Not here. Not now.’
