Chapter 59: Final Wave (I)

Kael’s silver eyes burned beneath the Shadow Veil Mask, his HP steady at 85%, his Lvl 15 frame buzzing with hard-earned strength. The forest’s primal energy pulsed, thick and wild, as he perched in the canopy, his Bloodthread Mantle blending with the foliage.

His Abyssal Fang Dagger hummed, its blade slick with beast blood, the Essence Latch feeding him faint pulses of stamina. He at the progression stats on the system interface—[First Floor: Trial of Strength – Progress: 26/100 Enemies Defeated, 5210/7200 EXP]—but the trial’s relentless grind had sharpened his instincts, and battle prowess.

And now, his Pre-Awakening cultivation was now a match for Primal Warriors. The forest was his ally for now, and he’d need every trick to survive what came next.

A distant roar shook the trees, followed by snarls and heavy footsteps. Kael’s Predator’s Instincts flared, his gaze snapping to the direction.

The fifth wave hit like a storm—fifteen Lvl 25 Feral Beasts and nine Lvl 25 Primal Warriors in ancient armor poured into the clearing. Razorclaw Wolves, Stormfang Boars, and Embercoil Serpents led the charge, their auras crackling, while the warriors’ glowing swords and axes swung with puppet-like precision.

Kael’s smirk twitched, half-amused, half-grim. "Twenty-four opponents a whole realm above a Lvl 15 Pre-awakening warrior? This trial’s got jokes," he muttered. "And I guess I’m the punchline."

For nearly an hour, the forest became a blood-soaked arena. Kael danced through the chaos, his Eclipse Step flickering, using trees and vines to outmaneuver the beasts’ bulk.

He lured wolves into root traps, their claws snagging, his dagger slashing throats—[EXP +950]. Boars charged, cratering trunks, but Kael swung from branches, his obsidian knives poisoning their hides—[EXP +950].

The 30-feet Serpents coiled, their flames scorching the surroundings, but he dove through underbrush, his Night Predator guiding his strikes—[EXP +950].

The warriors were tougher as they wore armor that deflected blows, but Kael targeted their joints, his dagger cracking through bone—[EXP +950].

Blood dripped from his mantle, his HP dipping to 40% at its lowest, his Eldritch Reversal nearly triggering. A boar’s tusk grazed his ribs—[HP: 47%]—and a warrior’s axe clipped his shoulder, drawing a deep gash—[HP: 42%]—but Kael’s forest tactics turned their numbers against them.

He climbed trees, dropped from branches, and used ravines to funnel foes, his blade a blur. After a grueling hour of guerrilla warfare, the last warrior fell with his dagger buried in its chest—[EXP +950].

The system chimed: [Progress: 50/100 Enemies Defeated]. His EXP surged—[Lvl 15 → Lvl 17, 200/7800 EXP]—his body tightened and strength flooded his limbs, his HP and stamina restored to 100%.

Kael collapsed onto a mossy rock, cross-legged, his breath steadying. "This trial’s aiming to kill, but I’m too stubborn to relent," he muttered, chuckling, despite the blood dripping down his body.

He closed his eyes, channeling his Adaptive Regeneration, his HP climbing, his stamina refilling. Ten minutes later, his body hummed at peak condition, his silver eyes snapping open. "Time to dance," he said, standing, his Abyssal Fang Dagger drawn, its darker aura eager for blood.

Roars and snarls echoed from the distance, the final wave of the first floor trial approaching. Kael’s Predator’s Instincts pinged, his gaze locking on the forest’s edge.

Twenty-five Lvl 26–31 Low-tier Feral Beasts and twenty-five Lvl 26–31 Primal Warriors stormed in, their combined auras shaking the trees.

Three Lvl 31 Golden-Scaled Apes led the attack, their massive fists cratering the ground. Four Lvl 30 Crimson-Eyed Demon Bulls followed close, their horns glowing red. Five Lvl 30 Azure Flame Tigers prowled, flames licking their fur. Five Lvl 29 Ironback Armored Bears lumbered, their hides like steel. Five Lvl 27 Inferno Lions roared, their manes blazing and finally, three Lvl 26 Mistveil Cranes glided through the air, their wings trailing mist.

The warriors were clad in ancient armor and wielded glowing swords, spears, and axes, their eyes hollow but deadly. Kael’s smirk faltered, turning ugly as he stared in disbelief at the horror in front of him. "Fifty Primal Warriors and Feral Beasts? Really? Trial’s got a death wish for me," he muttered, half-laughing, half-cursing.

The apes charged first, their fists smashing trees. Kael’s —Eclipse Step— flickered, dodging a blow that cratered the ground, debris grazing his arm—[HP: 98%]. He swung onto a vine, using the canopy’s cover, and hurled an obsidian knife, its poison bursting on an ape’s shoulder.

It roared, barely slowed, and Kael dropped, his dagger slashing its knee, scales cracking, but that was all it amounted to. A bull charged, its horns aimed for his chest. Kael rolled under a fallen log, the bull’s horns lodging in the wood, and he slashed its flank, tearing a deep gash from one end to the other, blood spraying—[EXP +1075].

"Big and dumb, my favorite," he quipped, his —Night Predator— tracking the tigers’ flames.

A tiger pounced, its azure flames scorching the air. Kael dove into a thicket, the flames singeing his mantle—[HP: 95%]. He emerged, his —Eclipse Step— carrying him to its side, his dagger piercing its ribs—[EXP +1075].

The warriors advanced, their spears thrusting in sync. Kael weaved through trees, their spears stabbing trunks, and targeted a spearman. His dagger cracking the spearman’s armored elbow—[EXP +975].

His Adaptive Regeneration held, but his stamina dipped, the Essence Latch straining against the onslaught. "Fifty’s a bit much, even for me," he muttered, his face grim, but despite that, his bloodline roared for more.

The cranes swooped in, their mist obscuring the battlefield. Kael’s —Night Predator— pierced the haze, and he climbed a tree, slashing a crane’s wing, feathers falling as it crashed into the ground—[EXP +975].

A lion roared, its inferno mane blazing, and Kael lured it into a ravine, its flames catching vines but missing him. He dropped from a branch, his dagger piercing its neck—[EXP +1075].

The bears lumbered, their iron hides deflecting his knives, but Kael used the forest’s roots, tripping one, his dagger finding a weak spot, piercing through its eye—[EXP +1050]. His HP dipped to 90%, the trial’s pressure crushing, but Kael’s smirk held. "Come on, pagoda, I’m just warming up," he growled, his dagger dancing.
