Chapter 53: Beyond The Hall
Chapter 53: Beyond The Hall
"Big guy’s got some punch," Kael grunted, wiping blood from his lip. His silver eyes gleamed, his bloodline thrumming with defiance.
He darted forward, feinting left, then used —Eclipse Step— to flicker right, his dagger aiming for the construct’s spine. The blade bit deep, bone cracking, but the construct roared, its sword sweeping low.
Kael leaped, the blade missing by inches, and hurled an obsidian knife. The poison sizzled and the force broke through its defense, slowing the construct’s swing, but its aura flared, shrugging off the toxin.
Kael’s stamina waned, his breaths ragged, but the EXP from the earlier constructs—4,500 so far—pushed him closer to Lvl 12.
"Just gotta outlast you," he muttered, dodging another sword strike. The construct’s size was its greatest strength, but also its flaw as it made slow turns and predictable swings.
Kael weaved through its attacks, his —Night Predator— guiding his steps. He slashed its knee, bone splintering, then rolled under a crushing stomp, his dagger carving its thigh—small cuts, but they added up.
The construct’s aura surged, its sword glowing with primal energy. It slammed the blade down, the shockwave shaking the hall. Kael’s —Eclipse Step— flickered, but his stamina lagged, and the blast knocked him back, his mantle tearing—[HP: 60%].
He gritted his teeth, his Eldritch Reversal stirring, ready if his health dropped below 20%. "Not yet," he growled, springing up.
He hurled another obsidian knife, aiming for the construct’s glowing eyes. The blade struck, the force bursting through, and the creature staggered, its swings getting wilder.
Kael seized the opening, his —Eclipse Step— carrying him onto the construct’s back. He drove the Abyssal Fang into its neck, twisting the blade, bone grinding against metal.
"GRRRAAAAUUUGGHHHKKK!"
The construct roared, thrashing about, but Kael held on, his dagger slashing deeper. Its aura flickered, weakening, and Kael leaped off, rolling as it swung blindly.
He darted in, slashing its leg, then its arm, chipping away its strength, bit by bit. The construct’s movements slowed, its massive sword dragging, its red eyes dimming.
"Almost there," Kael panted, his HP at 58% now.
He dodged a sluggish strike, his dagger carving through the construct’s chest. Bone shards flew, the creature stumbled, and its aura faded. Kael’s bloodline roared, his Devour Essence itching to claim the construct’s energy, but he focused, his silver eyes locked on the prize.
One final —Eclipse Step— carried him behind, his dagger plunging into the construct’s core—a glowing rune at its heart. The blade sank deep, the rune shattering, and the construct collapsed, bones scattering across the floor—[EXP +900].
Kael stumbled back while panting, his breath burning hot. His HP now at 55% began climbing slowly.
He wiped blood from his lip, his smirk returning. "Not bad for a weakling," he muttered, glancing at the scattered bones.
The system chimed:
———

[Total Essence Absorbed: +10900 EXP]
[Blood Points: +2]
[You have advanced by two levels]
His level surged—[Lvl 11 → Lvl 13] [3470/6600 EXP]—His muscles tightened and strength flooded his limbs.
[Abyssal Fang Dagger upgraded]
[Grade: Superior Grade]
The dagger trembled in his hand, its blade sharper. Its aura became darker and a faint pulse of primal energy coursed through it.
Kael whistled, wiping sweat and blood from his face, his silver eyes glinting. "Not bad, system," he muttered, sheathing the dagger.
He turned to the altar, the bloodstone shards glowing brighter, their crimson light bathing the hall. The five shards sat on the pedestal, each pulsing like a heartbeat, their energy tugging at his bloodline.
"Now," he whispered, "I claim the prize." He stepped forward.
Kael’s boots crunched on bone dust as he approached the altar, the bloodstone shards’ crimson glow pulsing like a living heart. He reached out, his fingers brushing the warm, rune-etched surface of the first shard.
A jolt shot through him, his bloodline roaring, but he gritted his teeth, grabbing all five and shoving them into his inventory.
The system pinged and the translucent screen flared to life.
[Items Stored: 5 Bloodstone Shards]
[Slots: 49 left]
Kael’s lips twitched, a faint smirk forming. His inventory had unlocked at Lvl 10, a handy trick for stashing loot, and now, at Lvl 13, another unlocked interface flickered beside it—[System Shop Unlocked].
His eyes widened as the interface bloomed with different categories scrolling past: Weapons, Artifacts, Martial Techniques, Cultivation Techniques, Consumables like Alchemy Pills and Herbs.
Most of the items were greyed out, locked for higher levels, but the Pre-Awakening section glowed, packed with gear for warriors in the stage.
He swiped through with much anticipation but slowly his smirk began fading. The price of Common Grade items started at 20 BP with the priciest hitting 150 BP. Uncommon Grade (Refined Grade)—started off at 150 BP, with top-tier stuff demanding 500 BP.
Kael’s jaw dropped, his 312 BP feeling like pocket change. "What am I, a beggar?" he muttered, scrolling past glowing swords and rune-etched gloves.
A Shadow Veil Mask caught his eye—Common Grade, 50 BP, perfect for hiding ones face from those below Primal Expert Realm. "Robbery," he grumbled, but the tomb’s dangers and Arveth’s team loomed. He needed every edge.
Kael stepped away from the altar, his Bloodthread Mantle swaying behind him, and moved toward the hall’s far end.
~Rumble!~
The walls rumbled, stone grinding as they slid apart, revealing a passage. He stepped through, his Night Predator trait sharpening his senses, and froze, his breath catching in his throat.
Beyond the passage stretched an open plain, impossibly vast. A blazing sun he was completely sure differed from the original outside hung overhead despite the cave’s depths.
Mountain walls ringed the land, dotted with dozens of identical exits—dark tunnels like the one he’d emerged from. In the plain’s center towered an 18-floor pagoda, its jade tiles glinting, its ancient aura heavy with primal energy.
Seven figures also stood in the plain, including Kael, each emerging from a different tunnel with some of them looking battered from the trial in the hall.
