Edge of the Apocalypse -
Chapter 962: A Grand Wedding
Before Fares could respond, a little light flew out of the woman's hand. The rosy glow pulled out a few irresistible tails in the air and tossed them towards Fares. Fares could only stretch out his hand to catch it and let out a breath of cold air as he spread out his palm. In his palm was a round crystal stone, suffused with a rose-colored luster. Not to mention it was crystal clear, there were bright red crystal threads within it that could be clearly distinguished.
This was a high-quality crystal. Judging from the size of this crystal, it was equivalent to 100,000 gold coins. The heroic woman said indifferently, "Escort me to Sardinia the day after tomorrow. This gold is both a deposit and your reward. Don't tell me it's not enough."
"Enough is enough" Fares smiled bitterly. "It's just this little … no, sir. I'm afraid we won't be able to accept the commission."
He looked at Allen and the others.
The heroic woman's face was filled with pride. After entering, she only stared at Fares, feeling somewhat arrogant. Seeing Fares refuse, she turned to look at Allen and the others. She opened her lips slightly and was about to say something. However, when he saw Alan clearly, his expression changed slightly. He said, "So I've already accepted someone else's commission. Forget it. Give me back the Crystal, and I'll find another place."
Fares immediately handed back the crystal in his palm.
The woman took it and turned to leave. Alan coughed dryly and said, "Next time you pay the deposit, don't smash a crystal. Commander Fares is open and honest. If you encounter someone with a bad heart, I'm afraid that if I send you on your way, I'll rob you of your money."
The woman turned around and narrowed her eyes. She did not say anything and left just like that.
Allen and Fares set a time for their departure and left the building. "The woman is a little strange," Edward said as he got into the carriage. "She's a crystal. She's either a newbie Ryan or someone else. Besides, she shouldn't have been so easy to talk to, but when she saw you, she obviously changed her mind. It looks like she should know you."
"I don't remember seeing such a woman." Alan shook his head. He never forgot. Not to mention that the other party was so independent, if he had seen it before, he would have had an impression of it.
"You don't have to meet him. Now, as long as you are someone with a heart, you should know your features."
Ellen frowned. "You mean that woman or someone from the capital just now?"
"Who knows? This possibility isn't ruled out." Edward smiled and said, "It's just an episode. Don't take it too seriously. It's the Frozen Moon Mercenary Group. First you give them a stick, then you give them a piece of candy. Tell me, a second-rate mercenary group is worth it?"
Alan smiled. "Because Hoey said that Farris's gun is not bad. To receive such a review from Hoey, I'll take it as an early investment. In any case, we do need a guide to take us north. It doesn't matter if we win or lose."
"Tomorrow is Orlando's wedding." Edward smiled. "How many of us will take advantage of that chance to win you over?"
"In short, there won't be less than two of them. What do you want to bet on?"
Edward looked out of the window and said, "Your Highness Hawson and Severus will definitely send representatives to watch the ceremony. You're a little cheating. I won't bet."
"Boring!" Alan rolled his eyes.
The next morning, a hundred bells rang.
The bell towers in the city of guns rang at the same time, and the sound of the bell echoed throughout the skies of Yedega and spread far and wide. Allen brought Edward and Regis to Whitestone Square in front of the City Lord's Mansion, where the wedding ceremony would be held. However, the rookies weren't in the plaza right now. They were climbing the mountain behind Spear City and heading towards the Hoey Clan's temple at the top of the mountain.
I heard that there is an endless fire altar in the temple. Every couple of Hoey Clan rookies need to climb the mountain, retrieve fire seeds from the fire altar, and go down the mountain to return to the Whitestone Square. Only by putting the fire seed into the stove in the plaza would one be considered successful.
This was the tradition of the Hoey Clan. The rookies climbed down the mountain and escorted the fire seeds in order to let them understand that they had to support each other on the road of life. As for the fire seed, it meant that the branches and loose leaves would flourish and the descendants would flourish. Originally, it was a tradition of the Hoey family, but in the past hundred years, it had spread throughout Spear City. Every time a newlyweds got married, Yedega would go to the temple to ask for fire seeds. Although the Hoey family did not publicly express their stance, they also tacitly agreed.
It was just that today was Orlando's wedding, which was why it was so grand.
Those who could observe the ceremony on Whitestone Square were naturally distinguished guests of Spear City. As for the residents of the city, they could only watch from a high place or a block away from the square. As the rookie's father and host, Hoey stood straight in front of the crowd in his royal uniform. Behind him was a group of distinguished guests, including Ellen. The atmosphere was solemn and no one spoke. However, they all looked at each other with their gazes, and Alan noticed a few people.
One was the woman she had seen yesterday at the Frozen Moon Mercenary Corps. She was still dressed in men's clothing today, but she was wearing a white robe and a black fur collar. The brown hair only reached his shoulders, neither long nor short. She could clearly feel Ellen's gaze, so she turned around and glared at him fiercely. Ellen smiled and turned away.
This woman was able to observe the ceremony here, obviously her status wasn't low. Moreover, she stood there with at least one lap empty. The men who were standing closer to her all had nervous expressions. Perhaps it was also because of this woman.
The second was an old man whose hair was greyer than Hoey's. Standing beside Hoey, he was small and skinny, his face wrinkled like bark, and he looked ridiculous in his bloated fur. However, no one dared to laugh at him. After all, this was the chief of staff of the Black Wolf Army, Qiao Mo, nicknamed "Black Civet". There was a saying circulating in the north about this black civet. He would rather offend the empire's Marshal Roderick than let Black Fox worry about him. From this, it could be seen that this old man was not a benevolent person.
The third was a young man, about thirty years old. She had a handsome appearance and a head of long blonde hair that was almost white. He was wearing a fur cloak, and inside was a luxurious silver-white robe. The sleeves were decorated with golden thread embroidered with patterns of sword herbs. That was the family logo of Sword Lord Mason. This person was the Duke's younger brother, Kao.
The old man and the young man were two people. The former represented Roderick and the first prince, Hawson, while the latter represented Sword Lord Mason and Savis' uncle. Amongst the distinguished guests, apart from the unidentified woman, Jomo and Kao were the most respected. Most of the guests at the ceremony were centered around the two of them. However, one of them was drowsy, while the other was focused on the front, leaving the guests who wanted to chat up but were unable to do so in a hurry.
After all, the atmosphere at the scene was not suitable for social activities. Fortunately, the two Orlando rookies who hadn't let their guests stay in the plaza for too long and left early before dawn entered the plaza after a while. With a smile on their faces, the two of them placed the fire seeds they had brought down from the mountain into the furnace. Instantly, the furnace flames tumbled and countless sparks splashed out. The spectators from afar immediately burst into cheers, and even Hoey's face revealed a smile.
Hoey then presided over a short but old enough ceremony for the two rookies under the gazes of the city's residents and VIPs in the plaza. The wedding also came to an end when a concentric grass ring, a symbol of their long-lasting love, was worn over the heads of the two couples from Hoey's hands.
Next was the time of the reception, which was the end of the wedding for the two newlyweds. But for guests like Allen, it was just the beginning of a good show. The reception hosted by the distinguished guests was set up in the main hall of the City Lord's Mansion, and the plaza was filled with wine and cakes for people to use. After dealing with several groups of guests in the reception hall, Alan saw the old man nicknamed Black Civet smiling as he walked over.
Edward bumped into him and said, "Here we go." After that, he quietly walked away and the arrival of the black beaver attracted the gazes of most of the people in the arena. The old man didn't care. He smiled and toasted Allen, "Viscount Allen must be the most exciting young man I've seen in the past ten years. He killed an outsider commander in Mountain City a few days ago and fought with our Marquis of the Iron Spear two days ago without losing." I suppose now that the lovely people of Oliska know of the Viscount's feat, they can't wait to see you. "
Ellen's flattery was "soul-stirring", and he immediately smiled and said, "Lord Jomo thinks too highly of me, but there is one thing that is certain. I will leave an exceptionally deep impression on those lovely people."
"Oh!" Jomo laughed, narrowing his eyes. "Viscount Allen is confident, and even more so. Olska needs a young man like you. Otherwise, it would be too boring."
The old man lowered his voice and said, "Apart from representing His Royal Highness Hawson, His Royal Highness also has a message for Viscount Allen when we come to Iron Spear Ridge this time."
"May I know what advice His Highness has?"
The Black Fox opened his eyes. His expression was bone-chilling and contrasted with the smile on his lips. "Your Highness said that if you are willing to come to his side, I will give you a title. If you want to be the commander of the various legions of the empire, you can choose. But if you refuse, even if you can reach the Imperial Capital, you won't be able to leave."
Without waiting for Alan to reply, the old man smiled and said, "I will be staying in Spear City for a few more days. Viscount Alan can think about it carefully and answer my question just now. There's no hurry …"
Alan smiled faintly, "But I will leave tomorrow."
"Oh? Then I see. I wish Viscount Allen a pleasant journey." Black Fox smiled and deliberately emphasized the word "happy". Alan did not answer his question directly, but since he had said that he would leave tomorrow, that was to say, he would not consider changing his owner to serve him. Otherwise, he should have thought about it for a few more days. Qiao Mo was an old man, so how could he not understand what Allen meant?
