Edge of the Apocalypse
Chapter 708: Ransom

"I want to see my bodyguard." Lance said in a deep voice. The only thing he could do now was to gather the guards in case anything unexpected happened.

The unicorn knight shook his head and said, "Mr. Lance, we are strong enough to protect you. There is no need to alert your guards."

Hearing this, Lance's heart went cold. Even his guards were detained, but this was within his expectations, so he was not too shocked. However, his expression darkened, and he said to the knight, "Please tell Sir Ante that I will remember what he has done, and I only hope that he will not regret it in the future."

The knight nodded, "I promise to bring it."

Lance snorted and slammed the door shut. A moment later, the knight heard the sound of a table and a chair being thrown from inside. It was obvious that Lance was venting his anger. The two knights exchanged glances and didn't stop him. In any case, their mission was to ensure that Lance would not step out of this place. As for what he was doing inside, it was none of their business.

It's getting dark.

Lance panted heavily, his clothes untidy under the high window. When the door opened, a guard came in and lit a candle for him. Unicorn Castle still uses traditional lighting, so when the candlelight is lit, the flickering candlelight reflects the long shadows of the broken tables and chairs on the ground. Lance sat in the shadows and watched the long shadows crisscrossing the ground. He thought the guards would bring dinner, but they said, "Mr. Lance, Sir Ont invites you to the hall for a chat."

"Does he finally want to see me?" Lance sneered and stood up. She tidied her clothes elegantly and said with a hint of arrogance, "Still not leading the way?"

Walking in the corridor of the castle, Lance looked at the group of knights and soldiers behind him. They followed behind Lance all the time, as if afraid that Lance would get lost. Lance could clearly feel that the atmosphere in the castle was not right. Unte did not seem to have summoned him out of fear of himself or Rackett. Standing at the entrance of the hall, he stopped and said in a low voice, "Where are my guards?"

"Mr. Lance, please don't waste Sir Ont's time." The knight opened the door for him and pushed him.

He glared at him angrily.

However, there was an expressionless face in his eyes. Lance sighed and could only walk forward. The hall was brightly lit. In front of the two unicorns' banners hung a magnificent and dignified stone pedestal. Originally Daniel's seat, it was now occupied by the green Ante. The teenager sat on the stone seat that was obviously too big, looking a little embarrassed. Lance noticed that he kept looking to the left. It was a young man, not much older than Ante.

When he turned around, Lance saw a pair of azure eyes. However, it was unknown if the blue pupils had turned into a faint brown again due to the lighting in the hall. The man smiled charmingly, which Lance admitted was the gentlest smile he had ever seen. It was as gentle as the spring breeze, so gentle that there was no hostility in life.

"Mr. Lance." Ante coughed dryly.

Lance came to his senses, stood still, and resumed his usual arrogance. "Sir Ante, what do you mean? Not only did you put yourself under house arrest, you also detained my guards. This is an extremely rude thing to me, Earl Rackett!" He said.

Ante frowned. The young man had been a viscount for some time and was no longer the young master he was back then. He already had the consciousness of a knight, one of which was that he disliked Lance's contempt for him. He snorted and didn't look at Lance. Instead, he said to the man with the strange pupils, "Sir Edward, he is Lance. Now, I'll leave him to you."

Lance was shocked. He had heard of it before. During the time Allen was away, he was represented by another baron in all the affairs of his territory. The name Edward had been in his mind since Hilo's defeat last time. However, it was only now that he had seen Edward for the first time, and he had not expected that he would be so young.

Moreover, it seemed that Ante had betrayed him?

"What's going on?" Lance cried out, "Ante, are you going to break the contract? This will provoke Count Rackett's wrath, have you thought it through?"

Edward stepped forward and said in his stead, "Lord Ante has naturally thought it through. Your Excellency is well aware of the fury of a Count who is far away in Dornhill City and of a powerful neighbour who will become an enemy at any moment. What choice should we make, and who is our enemy and who is our friend? Your Excellency is very clear."

He clapped his hands.

The door of the hall opened again, and a domineering aura surged in from outside. Lance was the first to bear the brunt, and his heartbeat immediately accelerated, his face pale. He turned around and saw Broy dragging the Hammer of Extinction in. Behind Broy, two soldiers carried a stretcher to Lance's side. On the stretcher was a bloodstained man. He seemed to have fainted, but the undulations in his chest meant that he was still alive.

"Glen!" Lance screamed. Of course he recognized this man. Even though he didn't like Glenn's rudeness and impoliteness. However, Lance had to admit that Glenn's combat strength in Dornhill City was only below Hilo's. Otherwise, he would not have been able to become the deputy commander. But now, this man was thrown on the stretcher like a tattered puppet, seemingly seriously injured. Even Glenn was wounded like this. What about the army of Dornhill City?

"This is Vice Guild Glenn, isn't it? Well, there are still fifty surrendered soldiers, plus Mr. Lance. I'm looking forward to seeing how much ransom Earl Rackard will pay for you." Edward said with a smile, "It just so happens that our territory has recently reduced taxes on farmers in order to encourage them to grow. I'm worried that the vault is empty. Now, it's a little urgent."

Lance's face was ashen as he said intermittently, "Impossible, we have about 400 people. Why …"

"Believe it or not, the truth is here. Mr. Lance, please come to our Dawn Castle as a guest." Edward gestured "please".

Bloy gestured, and the two Mountain King warriors immediately stepped forward, holding Lance between their left and right. Lance reluctantly left the hall, and Edward turned and bowed to Ante, "Ante waved weakly. God knows how bad his mood was when he saw the fifty or so listless captives and the unconscious Glenn. If he had any other thoughts before, Edward would use his overwhelming power to show him that offending a powerful neighbor was far more troublesome than provoking the Earl of Dornhill.

At this time, he had little choice. The little knight seemed to have emptied all his strength and forced a smile, "Please say hello to Lord Allen for me."

"Your kindness, this humble one will definitely bring it for you." Edward smiled.
