Edge of the Apocalypse -
Chapter 679: Outsider Expert
["Twenty or thirty people?" Alan frowned. There were so many people, almost half of the troops in the predetermined position. In the mission plan sent down by the Federation, the target they wanted to attack was a battle fortress, which could be considered a node in the enemy's outer defense line. Normally, all the defensive nodes would store up troops to defend, and although they would also send out sentries to scout, they rarely would pull out half of Thailand's troops to patrol the battlefield.
Alan's heart skipped a beat when he heard Belmore's figure. If it weren't for the fact that Zhi Nao hadn't shown him the correct route, he would have thought that his group would have buried themselves in the main barracks. Only places like the main barracks could afford a patrol team of twenty to thirty people.
"Scatter first, go up there." Alan pointed to the dangerous cliff on the side. There were many natural karst caves on the mountain walls of the canyon, which was the ideal place to hide.
Unexpectedly, just as he turned around, Allen's eyes bumped into a sturdy figure. It was a Catu warrior, appearing less than a hundred meters behind the group. He was carrying a machete on his shoulder and looking up when he met Allen's eyes. Both sides were stunned. Ellen reacted first and shouted, "Prepare for battle."
At the same time, the Catu warrior let out a wild roar. He raised his machete and threw it into the sea of grass, rushing towards Allen's group. Behind him, countless figures appeared, and more than a dozen of the Catu Race Berserkers charged at the same time. Without a doubt, this was also a small team. However, the front and rear teams had more than forty people, making it impossible for a defensive fortress to accumulate such a large number of troops.
Unfortunately, Alan had no time to think about it now, so he could only kill this squad before making any plans. Otherwise, if the two teams were to meet, even if his team members were stronger than others, they would still fall into a disadvantageous position. After all, without the artillery support provided by the tactical flying vehicles, it would still be difficult to kill an army of half a hundred in a short period of time. Not to mention the fact that the other party possessed a group of weapons like the Beam Machine Cannon, it was even more disadvantageous to Allen's side.
Alan had already left, and the sea of grass quickly retreated beneath his feet. The force of his charge even pushed down the grass, leaving a conspicuous mark in the sea of grass. The Cato warrior who first discovered Alan let out a loud roar and leapt up from the bushes. In midair, only a small hill-like shadow remained due to the backlight. Then, it quickly descended towards Allen.
In midair, the Catus raised their machetes and released all of their Origin Energy. The blade carried a sharp aura and slashed down without any tricks!
A cold light flashed in Alan's eyes, and the charging figure suddenly stopped. The sudden change in movement caused the Catus to make a serious mistake in their predictions. However, at this moment, the Gatu Warrior had no time to change. He slammed his saber into the grass. He immediately spat out a circle of mud debris. As the grass flew around, Allen's figure flashed again. Blood hid in the grass and pulled out a mournful bloody light. In the blink of an eye, it brushed past the Cato warriors.
In this shocking speed, no one could see what was happening. Alan dodged and the tall and sturdy Catus flew upside down. The armor on his body shattered into pieces, and blood sprayed out from the shattered armor. Before he could land, his eyes had already lost their focus and turned into a corpse.
Alan ignored the outcome of the battle and dragged his saber into the enemy troops behind him. Blood Hidden pulled out red ribbons of light, twisting and undulating like red silk floating by the side of many Catu warriors. The heavy saber and the light saber made it completely difficult for people to grasp its saber power. Moreover, although these Gaztu warriors were brave and fierce, they weren't experts in charge of the area. They couldn't see Allen's saber techniques clearly, and they had already been repeatedly struck by the saber.
Only when four or five more people fell quickly under the Blood Hidden Saber did Belmore join the battle. The Black Devil Wings spread out behind him, and his figure constantly flashed behind the enemy soldiers. Every time he appeared, he would use a short knife to cut his opponent's throat, or stab into the armor cracks, causing one fatal injury after another.
The battle had already attracted the attention of the squad ahead. A dozen or so Gaztu warriors armed with two axes charged forward, attempting to drag Allen's squad down so that the main force in the rear would have a chance to annihilate the enemy soldiers. Lei Na shouted in confusion, then turned around and pounced forward. The volcanic armor lines lit up one after another, and the bone-piercing warhammer emitted a dense flame. Raynor roared as the warhammer landed heavily on one of the enemy's vanguards. Before the Catu warrior could even let out a miserable scream, the armor on his chest collapsed along with his bones and flesh.
A shockwave swept past the two of them, pressing down on the grass in all directions. Left and right, the enemy soldiers were shaken into chaos. Before they could adjust, Reina had already waved his warhammer and sent them flying.
When he smashed another forward to death, his shoulders sank. A figure flashed in front of Raynor's eyes, but it was Regis who stepped on his shoulder and used his strength to sprint forward. Instantly, an invisible light shone from the sea of grass. This flash of light pierced into the enemy formation, killing four or five Catu warriors to the point where they were utterly annihilated. Rena snorted as he charged forward with his warhammer.
Within the enemy's main force, a Cato-like figure spat out two streaks of hot smoke from his nostrils. He suddenly stopped and removed the beam cannon from his back. These high-frequency guns were usually used on the defensive lines of the positions and needed to be fixed with auxiliary components. The recoil force was not something ordinary people could imagine. However, when the Catu in front of him held the cannon in his hand, the lines on the cannon began to light up. Just as he was about to open fire, a golden light suddenly appeared at the center of the Gaztu Warrior's helmet. As the golden light flashed, the helmet exploded into pieces. The gato warrior's eyes were filled with astonishment. His braid was dancing like a snake behind his head.
However, he didn't notice it at all. After a while, his body shook and he heavily fell to the ground with the cannon. At this moment, a bullet hole appeared between his eyebrows, and a pool of fresh blood flowed out.
Lucy was kneeling on her knees, holding a gun, when smoke rose from Golden Rose's muzzle. The girl fired a few more shots and accurately knocked down a few enemy soldiers near Lucy. Reina shrugged his shoulders and roared as he charged again.
The battle lasted for fifteen minutes.
Alan exhaled when the last Catus fell. Turning around, he saw that there were already forty to fifty corpses of Catu warriors lying in the vicinity of the sea of grass. The two teams were still killed by them. The Catus were notoriously poor, so the task of cleaning the battlefield was much easier. The equipment they had on them was only a few beam rifles and that cannon worth recycling.
While Belmore and Regis were recycling their equipment, Alan walked over to Reina and Lucy and said, "Something's wrong."
"Obviously." Reina said succinctly. He was cleaning up the remaining armor fragments on the warhammer.
Lucy raised her head and said, "It seems that the task we have is not normal if we can get in touch with the army. We need to confirm it with the army."
Allen took out his tactical brain and tried several times, but all of them showed that the connection had failed. He sighed, "The origin power in the canyon is too chaotic. I'm afraid it will affect the normal communication network. But in the current situation, either the intelligence provided by the Federation is wrong, or …"
He paused for a moment before continuing.
Reina took his words and said on Alan's behalf, "Either someone set us up and intentionally lured us to the enemy's heavily armed area. Looking back, it seems that our route is too deep. I'm afraid this is no longer the enemy's perimeter line, but the Second Grade Theater of Operations, right?"
At the end of his sentence, Alan's scalp exploded and his silver hair stood on end. "Second Grade war zone? Then the situation is bad. In short, we should leave this place first before we make any plans. Regis, you guys …"
He turned around and a gray wheel of light flew over from above the dangerous cliff behind him.
Instantly, killing intent filled the air!
Alan lifted up Blood Concealment, and his Origin Energy rumbled as he slashed at the spinning gray wheel of light. Immediately, the sound of weapons hitting each other rang out, and the overflowing energy shook the grass in all directions, causing the air currents visible to the naked eye to sweep away in circles. Alan gritted his teeth, and Xue Yin forcefully lifted it up before bouncing the gray light wheel away. It flew sideways a few meters before smashing into the ground, but its momentum didn't stop. He ploughed out a seven to eight meter long mark in the sea of grass before stopping.
The grass flew down and landed on this terrifying axe the size of a table. The metal on the surface of the axe was being folded into the sky in the valley, and the killing intent left on the axe was still astonishingly large. Allen cursed, "It's really heavy." He then looked at the dangerous cliff above. On a horizontal rock, a figure stood tyrannically and forcefully. His imposing aura was so strong that everyone below the cliff felt like a needle was piercing through it.
Without a doubt, he was an expert, and his level wasn't low.
The Cato expert was nearly three meters tall and had thick, hard brown hair hanging behind his head. He rarely wore pigtails like the other Cato. His golden pupils reflected the faces of Allen and the others. He opened his mouth and let out a thunderous roar. He leapt up from the stone again, and his figure crossed everyone's heads, smashing heavily onto the grass near the giant axe like a meteor.
The ground was shaken by him. The nearby grass shook and scattered everywhere. Stalagmites rose up on the ground like giant beasts sticking out their fangs. Only then did the Catu expert stand up from the ground and casually push down a few stalagmites. He walked to the front of the axe and lifted them up. Then, he said in a low voice, "You can withstand my attack. Even among human monkeys, you can be called a warrior." Hubble respects all warriors, even if you are a human. "So, tell me your name and I will engrave it on the beheader to show my respect for you!"
He patted the axe, and Alan noticed that there were some crooked and distorted characters carved under the rough metal on the axe. That should be the name of the person he had killed. But what surprised Alan even more was that this Catu could speak human language, even though his tone was strange and his pronunciation was unpleasant.
"You know our language?" Alan asked.
The Cato expert named Hubble carried the axe on his shoulder and proudly said, "What's so difficult about this? In order to trade with us, those monkeys are happy to teach you the language. What did they say? Oh, everything is for communication."
