Edge of the Apocalypse -
Chapter 677: Prologue to the Final Battle
"Get in the car, gentlemen!"
An officer shouted, hurrying the hunting group's lone warriors into the carriage. Alan was the first to get into a troop carrier, and Regis and the others got in one after another. Reina was the last to enter the carriage and sat down in a corner. The missions the hunting squad received varied from one to another, and there were a few teams that worked together to take down a single location. However, the mission that Allen had obtained clearly stated in the plan that it was only a small team's mission. They only faced an enemy army of less than 50 people, as well as a few Level 15 elites from other races.
This little bit of strength had not been put in Alan's eyes. With his team's configuration, he was more than qualified.
The troop carrier was empty because there were no other teams going with it. 'It's good not to be crowded with too many people,' thought Allen, and he went over the plan he had discussed with the crowd yesterday to make sure there weren't any oversights. At this moment, the car trembled slightly, but the flying car had already started its engine. Alan looked through the window and his gaze rose. The flying car was already floating on the ground.
As the scenery slowly retreated, the convoy set off.
After the troop carriage left the camp, a screen appeared on the projection screen right in front of the carriage. After a moment of delay, an image appeared on the curtain wall. That was the scene of the Federation's floating fleet advancing towards the chaotic canyon. From the scene, it was not difficult to see that there was a dark cloud in the sky above the canyon in the distance.
That's the enemy air fleet.
Scenes like this appear in every troop carrier so that the soldiers or hunting squads on board can keep abreast of the latest developments in the war. As the Federation Squadron continued to advance, the Yordon Outsiders could no longer remain calm. Dark clouds began to greet the Federation Squadron, and various Catu flying ships flew towards them in mid-air. The formation of the Federation Squadron immediately dispersed, and the small warships in front of them quickly penetrated. In an instant, fireballs of varying sizes bloomed in midair, opening the prelude to this final battle on Frost Star.
This was the first time Allen had seen a battle between regular troops in the air, so he immediately paid more attention to the screen of the curtain wall.
The Catus were just like their warriors. They didn't have any tactics or formations at all. They were practically rampaging about in this high-altitude battlefield. Apart from charging forward, those strange-looking airships also charged forward. On the other hand, the strictly trained Federation pilots displayed superb combat skills in the air. Although all the small warships in the Federation fleet were deployed, they were scattered and not in chaos. Often, three small ships would form a team and cooperate with each other to hunt down enemy planes.
This group of small ships would occasionally launch guerrilla attacks, occasionally intersperse formations, or use them as bait to create opportunities for their companions to concentrate their attacks. The tactics they displayed were complex and diverse, dazzling Allen. In the scene, enemy planes continuously crashed, but there were also many Federation airships that exploded into fireballs. However, up until now, the battle damage rate was still controlled at the ratio of three to one.
The intense battle made Alan no longer satisfied with the screen. He couldn't help but poke his head out of the window. But at this time, the Federation Squadron had long since left. With Alan's eyesight, he could only see the clouds of fire in the sky in the direction of the Chaos Canyon. Occasionally, a ball of fire would drag thick black smoke down from the sky and fall to the ground. A moment later, it would explode with flames.
Lucy whispered in his ear, and he turned around. On the screen, the Federation battleships were also engaged in battle. Several battleships fired their main quantum cannons at the same time. After a burst of charging, several thick and ferocious quantum beams tore open space like a waterfall, instantly blasting into the enemy's fleet in the distance.
At first, a few blazing rays of light lit up, as if there were a few more blazing suns in the void. Soon after, the bright light covered the entire world, and even the Federation Squadron was drowned in the bright light. Alan simply looked out of the window. It was clearly daytime, but the light was dimmed by the blazing light in the distance. Rumbling sounds could be heard from within the bright light.
After a while, the strong light gradually disappeared. Looking at the screen again, there were a few blanks in the alien fleet. One flying ship after another turned into fireballs and fell to the ground, causing a series of explosions!
Alan could vaguely hear the cheers coming from the other cars nearby. However, it was clear that they were happy too early. The Federation battleships had just finished a bombing when two pitch-black beams of light suddenly came from the enemy fleet. Like two giant black swords, the pitch-black light streaked across one of the battleships. The armor of the battleship was torn apart like paper by a beam of light. The hull of the battleship disintegrated, and dazzling flames rushed out from the hull, instantly exploding into a huge fireball.
The explosion even pulled in the small ships in the surroundings, causing another round of sympathetic explosions. Immediately, the scene was filled with splashing streams of fire and scorching metal fragments. One could vaguely see the figure of someone falling from high school. No one knew how many people had died instantly in such an intense explosion.
In the distance, there was an oppressive might in the sky. The pressure was like the pressure of dark clouds. Even though it was so far away, it still caused one's heart to palpitate. Alan was no stranger to this aura. He quickly exchanged glances with Reina, who nodded in agreement with Alan's speculation.
'"Dark Titan" Alan said softly.
At this time, another imposing aura rose in the distant sky, rivaling the pressure released by the Dark Titan. The Federation's experts had also begun to move. The ones who could suppress the Dark Titan were definitely not ordinary experts, at least the Federation's major generals. However, that aura was very different from Catherine's, and Allen thought that it was time for another general to take charge of the army.
He even wanted to see a battle between experts, but suddenly, the image of the curtain wall was closed. Alan heard waves of curses coming from a lot of cars. It wasn't hard to understand why he couldn't get a glimpse of the loss of the battle at this critical juncture. At this moment, the announcement from the car rang. It turned out that the Chaos Canyon had arrived. At this point, the mission of this convoy was over. The next step was for the Lone Warriors to walk into the valley and perform their own missions.
Federal convoys would return to the main battlefield to participate in the war on the ground.
The car landed and the door opened. Alan jumped to the ground and a blazing wind burrowed into his nose. He turned around and saw the flames everywhere in the chaotic canyon. He didn't know if the ground troops had already attacked the outsider positions. But the main battlefield did not belong to them. Allen took out his tactical brain. A plan of the canyon appeared on the screen, as well as a marching route represented by a dotted line. It would guide Allen's team into the predetermined position.
"Let's go." Alan said.
Entering the Chaos Canyon was like entering another world. The ubiquitous mist in the canyon isolated the fire and gunfire from the distance. When one looked up from the canyon, one could only see the faint flames and low explosions. However, the war between the Federation and the Yordon Outsiders still affected this valley. Those strange creatures had already sensed the scent of danger and hid themselves long ago.
Alan led his team all the way into the canyon, but he didn't even see the multi-eyed monster that liked to disguise as a strange tree. The air in the valley was already damp and stuffy, but now the atmosphere was even more solemn and oppressive. After entering the valley, the hunting teams advanced towards their target positions. In addition, the environment in the valley was complex and changeable. If it weren't for the group traveling together, it would be extremely difficult to see other teams. As he continued to advance into the valley, Allen almost thought that there was only one hunting group like them in the canyon.
The tactical intelligence of the hunting squad would constantly send signals to the commanding mothership, so that the commanders on the mothership could know the movements of each squad. At this moment, a tactical staff officer in charge of the hunting squadron from the command mothership let out a "yi" sound. He turned around and shouted at Catherine on the bridge, "General, you may have to see that this squad is acting strangely."
Catherine raised her cape and came to the staff officer's side. The tactical staff officer pointed at the Wise Brain Screen. On the map of the canyon in the screen, blue lights flickered. Each blue light represented a signal source. From this, one could see the movements of the various hunting groups. Since the main battlefield was taken over by the Federation Army, the hunting group's mission was basically to wipe out the enemy's forces in the periphery of the war zone, so as to weaken their combat capabilities on the main battlefield.
As a result, almost all of the blue light on the map stopped at the periphery of the battlefield, forming an arc. However, a bit of blue light continued to advance, and it had already entered an area designated as a level 2 battlefield by the Federation. Even though the Second Grade Theater of Operations was not the main battlefield, the enemy troops there were still extremely dangerous for a single hunting regiment. Moreover, once the enemy formation was hidden, it would be extremely difficult to break out of the encirclement or wait for help.
"How could this be? Do we have a mission assigned to the hunting regiment's level 2 war zone?" Catherine said with a serious expression, "Find out which team it is."
The Tactical Staff Officer's fingers flew like flying. Very quickly, the identification code of the fundamental signal source retrieved the Hunting Group's information. "Pack of wolves, the leader is … Alan Bescord!"
"What!" Catherine's body trembled, and she was keenly aware that something was amiss. "Take a look at the contents of their mission," he said coldly.
"Yes, General." The staff officer opened the mission file again and slid onto the pack of wolves: "Found it."
He looked hesitantly at Catherine.
"Open it." Catherine's tone was firm and irrefutable.
The staff officer clicked the button and a document popped up, presenting Allen's mission in detail in Catherine's eyes. Catherine quickly scanned through it, and her entire body became extremely silent. She looked at another person and coldly said, "Colonel Caesar, you are responsible for issuing the mission of the Hunting Group. Please explain to me why the Pack of Wolves Hunting Group's mission went deep into the Second Grade Theater of Operations without my consent!"
A man stood up and turned around. He was the federal colonel who had tried to stop Comon from changing his mission yesterday, but was threatened instead. "General," he said silently, "I don't know anything."
