Echoes of Vengeance: The Sweet Wife's Perfect Revenge -
Chapter 61: The Perfect Revenge
Chapter 61: The Perfect Revenge
Aveline didn’t shed another tear. It was like she suddenly stopped feeling the pain. Like her heart couldn’t break any more than it already had.
She wasn’t sure if the shattered pieces could ever heal, but she knew one thing, she wasn’t alone in this battle.
She held Alaric’s hand and lowered it from her eyes. She didn’t know why he was doing it, but she was glad he was there when she needed someone.
Not to protect her, but to show the path.
Not to hide her, but to help her face it.
He was childish, unreasonable, and overbearing, but nobody else could have handled her volatile state better than him.
Meanwhile, Alaric could still feel the moist trail of her tears on his hand she was holding. Unsure if she was crying in silence, he gently tugged on her hand to turn her around.
She let go of him and tried to step away, but the desk was right behind her. She said flatly without meeting his eyes. "The pendrive will be safe with Giselle." She wouldn’t be able to protect it from her parents or Damien.
Her tone had no charm or color. It was like the videos had drained every emotion from her voice. "I’ll have it sent over." He responded.
He tipped his chin towards a corner of the room, "There’s a restroom."
Aveline didn’t refuse. She walked away.
...
Staring at her reflection in the mirror, she could see no spark in her eyes. She looked pale like someone who might never crawl out of the abyss.
"You can’t stop living," she whispered to her reflection, "and waste your second chance at life."
She had stopped living for herself once, before her regression. Now that she had a chance to take her life back, she wouldn’t let it happen again.
Splashing cold water on her face, she let the coldness clear her mind. Ruining Damien wasn’t just about revenge. It was about cutting off the hands that could harm her family and loved ones.
The perfect revenge would be her happiness. Being most alive and living how she wanted.
Not surviving. Living.
She knew she wouldn’t bounce back in a day. She wouldn’t find happiness so easily. She would need time. And she was ready to take it.
...
When she returned, Alaric was sitting on the couch, a map spread out before him on the coffee table. She barely caught Ezra closing the door behind him.
Placing her bag aside, she asked, "Did you learn anything about Sinclairs?"
His eyes twinkled, hearing her voice hold the anticipation. He crossed one leg over the other and rested an arm across the back of the couch as he turned to her.
She was back. Her eyes were sharp, curiosity flickering brightly, and her expression steady.
He half expected her to run or need more time to pull herself together after watching the video. But no. She returned like a storm that had found its direction.
How could he not be intrigued?
Resisting his urge to pinch her cheek, He simply said, "Sunshine..." he handed her the iPad. "We should work together." He meant, keeping their plans open for each other.
Aveline took the iPad, glancing down at the screen. Her eyes widened slightly. A complete company bio on LogiSync Systems and its founder, Silas Hale, were in her hands. The one who would rise to fame at the cost of NexGuard.
If Alaric was so quick to gather the information, she looked up and asked, "You already have every detail of Sinclair’s. Don’t you?"
When their eyes met, she remembered his words. "Why don’t you look into my details? I might have a motive against you."
Alaric found her adorable for trying so hard to make him say why he was helping her.
What could be her motive against him?
NexGuard? She was saving it.
His bed? He would make it for her.
Lancaster’s name? Please.
"Why? Do you want to marry me?" He teased her.
Aveline narrowed her eyes. He flirted at every chance he got. He was interested in her, but why?
"I’m definitely not marrying someone who dodges my question every single time." She scoffed.
Then came his laugh. Deep and low. It warmed something inside her chest. He wasn’t cold or cruel with her, not like people said. But he was all those with the people he didn’t care about.
"Sunshine, will you marry me if I answer you?" He asked.
Aveline blinked, falling speechless for a moment. He somehow changes her words and twists them in his own way. She boldly challenged him, "Try it. I’ll be divorced soon anyway."
And then she realised how that sounded.
’My stupid loose tongue.’ She thought.
He didn’t take it seriously. Just a playful banter. So he shifted their focus, "Then let’s focus on your divorce first."
He circled four areas on the map. Two smaller plots inside Velmora, two larger ones just outside.
"These are the lands in Elliot Sinclair’s name," he explained. "Other than Sinclair Lifestyle, the Sinclairs own a villa they live in, some rental flats, they have one factory. Vivienne Sinclair doesn’t have anything in her name. She lives in... Damien’s flat."
Aveline wasn’t surprised. Instead, she filled him in on Damien’s projects. The Twin Towers that were linked to her land. Then Damien’s dream project, that possibly linked to two large plots of Sinclairs
Alaric was quiet for a moment. Then he used an iPad and opened an article, and handed it to her.
The capital’s IT tech park is suffocating the city, choking its infrastructure, overloading its population, draining its resources.
To save the capital, the tech park must be shifted within 10 years.
Velmora was home to major industries. But tech companies? Still rare.
Instead of driving the crowd into Velmora, placing the new tech park just outside Velmora would reduce backlash, politically and socially. It was an obvious move.
Aveline nodded, agreeing with Alaric’s thoughts. "His own smart city."
She looked at the man and voiced her thoughts, "Which one of the two areas could be suitable for his project?"
Alaric didn’t know. To build such massive projects, Damien would need soil tests and clearance certificates from the administration.
Alaric could do the same to find out. Since it was Friday night, "You will know by Monday." He said.
Aveline shook her head. She doesn’t have to know. She looked him in the eyes, "Buy it." That’s her simple way to ruin Damien’s dream.
Then she smirked, "Better, tip off Lancaster Global Holdings to work on this very same project." She said, pointing at the iPad.
He stared at her. "You are ruthless." Yet, he was admiring her.
"I’m just getting started." She said with a cold smile.
In that moment, he knew this was the rise of the woman Damien should have feared from the beginning.
