Chapter 183: Chapter 183: Deserved Punishment for Poor Management
Zhang Yongzhong clutched the contract as he went to the Langri Razor office at Xizhimen to collect the advertising fee, and the first payment was a direct deposit of 1.5M.
Back at the company with the contract in hand, he boasted in the office area, "Scored a big deal today! The snacks this afternoon are on me, tell Zhou Xueyin whatever you want to eat!"
"Ah? Tell me?" Zhou Xueyin looked at him puzzled.
It was bad enough for such a high-ranking manager not to have his own office, but now even secretarial tasks fell to her? What’s with that?
"Miaomiao, could you tally it up for me? I’m swamped as it is, and he shows up just to dump more work on me, what a nuisance!" Zhou Xueyin delegated the tallying task to Sun Miao.
"Sure thing!" Sun Miao agreed cheerfully.
"Xiaozhou, come for a sec..." Zhang Yongzhong suddenly pushed open the door of the office and called Zhou Xueyin in.
"What is it? Keep it short and sweet, I’m making a quote for Duban & Gute. They’re in a rush..." Zhou Xueyin frowned.
"The Langri account! I nailed it! How about that, pretty impressive, right?" It was the first deal Zhang Yongzhong had signed since joining 51buy, and it did merit some praise.
"Not bad at all, Brother Yong is mighty! How much is the ad job?" Zhou Xueyin asked absentmindedly, still trying to figure out an appropriate quote in her head.
"Not too much, just 2M..." Zhang Yongzhong said proudly.
"That’s good! Any specific requirements for the ads? When do they go up? Where do they want it placed? Do we need to write direct advertisements for them?" Zhou Xueyin rattled off a bunch of questions in one breath.
"Well, Pang Xin didn’t mention that, just ask Wan Hua about it later." Zhang Yongzhong was only responsible for signing the deal; the rest, including aftersales, was someone else’s job.
"Alright... Anything else? If not, I’ll head back." Zhou Xueyin pointed toward the doorway, asking.
"Don’t you want to know how I sealed the deal?" Zhang Yongzhong desperately wanted someone to share his morning’s triumphs with, but Zhou Xueyin simply didn’t have time for his blather.
"Why don’t you talk to Xiaoyun or Jixiang? I’m really busy here, they need to see the quotation sheet before they leave work..." Zhou Xueyin was nearly at her wits’ end, while Zhang Yongzhong was taking his sweet time.
"That works too, call them in here..."
"Jixiang, Xiaoyun, the moron wants to chitchat... If you want to listen, go ahead, if not just make an excuse and come back." Outside the office, Zhou Xueyin whispered to the two.
"I’ve got to hear how the moron clinched this deal with Pang Xin!" Li Jiniang stood up with interest and entered Zhang Yongzhong’s office.
"Director Zhou, we need to double-check the reports and see if we can meet Duban & Gute’s requirements." Zhao Caiyun was not interested in the project that was already handed over, but rather more focused on the new client they had acquired.
Zhang Yongzhong animatedly shared with Li Jiniang how pitifully Pang Xin had behaved that morning and how he gathered evidence, though he did express some regret about not having been able to recruit Hu Ting to the company...
Since Zhang Yongzhong hadn’t sworn Li Jiniang to secrecy, she couldn’t be blamed for being talkative, and by the next day, everyone at 51buy knew about Pang Xin’s scandal.
"Hmph, just wait and see, Pang Xin is finished now! Luckily, we got the Langri ad, even if they replace someone, they’ll have to follow protocol!" Zhou Xueyin said, quite relieved.
However, when Zhou Xueyin sent the scheduling done for Langri off to Wan Hua, she couldn’t get any feedback from the other side, so she called directly, but no one answered after several attempts.
She then called the company’s receptionist: "Hello? Can I speak to Wan Hua, please?"
"He’s been transferred to another region..." the receptionist replied politely.
"Then could you tell me who’s in charge now? I’m the general manager of 51buy..." For a moment, Zhou Xueyin didn’t know who to turn to.
"Just a moment, I’ll connect you to our newly appointed director, Hu Ting."
Hu Ting? Hu Ting? Wasn’t she just a recent university graduate? How had she become in charge of Langri Beijing Branch’s sales director? Zhou Xueyin was utterly baffled.
"Hello? Good day? Langri Technology’s Huabei sales chief representative director, Hu Ting..." The other party picked up the phone very professionally.
"Hello, good day. This is Zhou Xueyin, the general manager of 51buy. I’m calling because we need your confirmation on the ad scheduling for your company. Could you please provide an email address?" Zhou Xueyin asked politely.
"No trouble at all, please send it to this email address..." Hu Ting gave Zhou Xueyin her email address, "I was wondering if Miss Zhou would be available tomorrow evening? How about we have dinner together?"
"Tomorrow? Sure!" Zhou Xueyin glanced at her schedule, and since she happened to be free the following evening, she agreed to meet with Hu Ting.
After hanging up the phone, Zhou Xueyin called over Li Jinang: "Hu Ting has become the sales director!"
"Impossible, right? You must have heard wrong?" Li Jiniang was also very surprised.
"No mistake! Absolutely true! She told me herself. Come to dinner with me tomorrow night and you’ll find out everything!"
The location for dinner was set at a relatively convenient place, and as soon as they got off work the next day, both parties met at a restaurant near Baishi Bridge.
Seeing Hu Ting again this time, her demeanor and appearance had completely transformed from half a month ago; she had metamorphosed from a clueless college student into a poised and brisk-walking sales director.
"Hello, Hu Ting, a pleasure to meet you!" She handed Zhou Xueyin a business card.
"Hello, Zhou Xueyin! Delighted to meet you!"
"Li Jiniang, we’ve met before..."
The three exchanged pleasantries at the entrance and then followed a waiter to a private room.
After ordering their meal, Li Jiniang couldn’t wait to ask, "Hu Ting, I hope you don’t mind me asking, but I’m really curious to know how you managed to get promoted to director in just half a month?"
"Because I personally sent Pang Xin to the detention center!" Hu Ting gritted her teeth as she spoke, clearly that incident had left her with painful memories.
"Well done!" Zhou Xueyin blurted out without concern for her image.
"Serving justice for the people!" Li Jiniang chimed in.
"Even though it’s a bit unfair to Wan Hua, who could blame him for not holding to his convictions and abetting the wrongdoer? He could only be assigned to a third-tier city’s sales area," Hu Ting said lightly.
Half a month earlier, after leaving Pang Xin’s house, Hu Ting went straight to the hospital, as she wanted to confirm whether she had indeed been assaulted.
After the examination the doctor regretfully confirmed it was true, and they even extracted DNA residues from her belonging to Pang Xin.
Hence, she decisively reported Pang Xin to the police station. When the police caught Pang Xin, he confessed everything in a cowardly breakdown.
With this incident as her leverage, Hu Ting made a direct request to the head office, demanding Pang Xin’s dismissal and her appointment as the sales director.
After all, it was a huge scandal and also a sign of an issue with the company’s oversight. With a mindset of minimizing the situation, the head office agreed to appoint Hu Ting as the director...
After hearing Hu Ting’s story, Zhou Xueyin and Li Jiniang both admired her courage and her unwillingness to let things slide.
At the dinner table, the three reached a consensus to help Hu Ting achieve that year’s sales performance and to create a splendid advertisement for her.
