Chapter 56: Chapter 56: You cook well... but!

The muffins were cooling. I knew that it was unfair of me to just let Mordred eat the first batch in front of Mortimer, but the thing was...

Morty had picked his side. As most younger children do, he picked his father.

There are many things which I could forgive. But traitors behind enemy lines were not one of them.

"Morty," Mordred began, as he began to fill in the baking tin with the batter. "Where have you been, brother?"

Oh, this was going to be a face slapping between brothers! I needed to see this. And Nate needed to see that there were lines in the sand!

"You’re horrible," he whispered in my ear, licking it. I shuddered.

"Where is Aron?" He needed to know that his lie was exposed!

"There was no Aron," but apparently, he refused to sit idle and just let me have what I wanted: my soulmate.

"There so is! He made SOS out of spaghetti just two hours ago!" I decided to omit the statuette. After all, that was weird.

Besides, I doubted that Mordred would have eaten Nate’s image.

I didn’t want to give Nate any more fuel than he already had.

"That was me," his hand patted my behind, as he turned back to our children. "Kids, I’m sure that there is plenty of batter for everyone! Come now, I care for all three of you!"

I snorted.

"No, there’s not," I said, then I wanted to hit myself on the head. "But I’ll buy some!"

"Papa, no!" Mordred was on his feet the next second. "Please! I don’t want you to disappear!"

I blinked. What was this about?

"Mordred, honey, I sent you off to get some chocolate today, don’t you remember?" I made my voice soft and understanding. I even let Nate wrap an arm around my waist, just so the kids wouldn’t worry. "And you didn’t get eaten. I won’t get eaten either."

"No, Papa!" He protested, as he pointed at an empty bottle, which at one point had milk in it. Something that had been sacrificed for his bowl cake.

Man, but that kid could eat...

"I didn’t mean you’ll get eaten! Fathers go for milk all the time! And they never come back!"

I looked at Nate. Sure, that this nonsense was something he had filled Mordred’s head with.

"Don’t look at me," his smile was venom itself. "It’s common knowledge."

"You’re horrible," I decided to throw caution to the wind. "Where is he, darn you?!"

Nate just wrapped both of his hands around me and turned us around so that I could no longer see the children.

"I can cook," he told me, his lips tracing my nape. "I can clean after myself. Heck, I can even raise the kids."

I was melting at all that, not gonna lie. But the truth was, he was poison! A liar!

I couldn’t give him my heart!

"Aron is my soulmate!" I continued stubbornly, even as my toes began to curl as he began to work on my earlobe.

"Hm," he let me go enough to look me in the eyes. "What pretty eyes you have."

His teeth looked like fangs as he said that.

I had had enough!

"Look here you!" I began, rage bubbling inside of me. "I am 5,000 years old! I will live to be 5,001 and maybe even 10,000!"

He grimaced, but I refused to stop talking. He had to understand that I wasn’t a toy!

"And I will see the last sunset with Aron and the kids by my side! And you, liar," I spat the word. His brown eyes were beginning to shine. His golden hair was beginning to lose its color. "Will just have to learn to share!"

And I kissed him.

I sucked at his lips until he stopped giving out doom and gloom vibes. Vibes which were certain to end up with me eyeless and tied to a bed.

Because I couldn’t name the priest who married us, but Morty was looking at me with wide eyes.

I was doing this for the children.

I was no fighter.

"Sylvan," Nate apparently didn’t care that said children were staring at us. "My love..."

I patted him on the back.

"Ok, listen here, you," if he was to be my man, he was going to get the horny time away from the children. That was a law for married couples, darn it! "You bring back Aron and we have a threesome. Come on! You’ll like it!"

"Good God," that coming from Morty sounded strange. A Lich, believing in God? Yeah, I wasn’t buying it. "Papa’s lost it!"

"No!" Nate proved that he was indeed still a teenager. Which was weird. I had no idea why he didn’t want to jump Desmond’s bones but wanted mine.

Desmond, who was more handsome than me and stronger, besides.

"Sylvan," Nate whined, as he got me in a bride’s carry. "Let’s leave the kids to their play, and we can..."

"Mordred! Spatula!" I yelled. Darn it, Nate wasn’t understanding the whole married couple dynamic!

Mordred threw the spatula at me, I caught it, bonked Nate on the nose, and then got out of his hold.

I pointed at our two stunned sons. My stunned husband placed a hand over his heart.

Huh... could he really be in love?

"This is no play!" And it was the truth! It was one of the few precious memories I had of my sons. "This is a family bonding experience!"

I bonked him on the nose once more. Gently. Without any intentions to hurt him.

"Now, what are we going to do?" I asked him, the spatula raised, ready to strike at his nose once more.

"Have a..." Nate began to blink.

"A family bounding experience!" Mordred and Morty chorused as one.

"Yeah... that," Nate sat down, as he looked at the produce, he had given me that day. "That’s not a lot."

I sat by him.

"We make do," I was going to make him cook!

And pay bigger child support...
