Chapter 115: Chapter 115: The Family

The demons went back home. Looking healthy and no longer caring if Forestria really was a land of sin or not.

They had fought a war.

The humans could have avoided said war if they had simply listened to them.

But I was rounding up my sons!

My twins.

My eldest was... unwell.

"Mordred, Morty," I knew that they didn’t know their brother all that well. They were both blondes, and he was a redhead.

Mordred had purple eyes, because he was Aron’s son, and Morty had Nate’s brown eyes.

Both of them looked so as if they were one punch away from making someone cry for their mother.

But they needed to realize that their brother was in a breakdown.

Both a mana and a mental one.

Those weren’t fun. Man, I was in one as well.

My bones hurt, feeling the cold weather that was coming with the distress of a dark nymph.

Not to mention that Pan was more than simply my son.

He was also the second-in-command of the Nymph Union! And Doran wasn’t enough to keep him safe or happy.

Maybe Solas would have cut it. Or Brandon, if he stopped being a dragon who only thought of Pan as a treasure.

Honestly, if these men didn’t make Pan happy in the next two days, I was going to tear them a new one!

Because, even though I was no longer a Dark Nymph, I could still mix herbs in food that had no place in food.

"Dad," both of them were looking at the greenery.

"Did you fight in the war?" I made a step towards them.

The realization that I wasn’t going to be having any more sons hit me like a speeding dragon.

Or a speeding Brandon, at any rate.

Now that I wasn’t a dungeon core anymore, I was limited by the simple biological fact that men couldn’t have children.

I lost Edda.

Now, Pan still had Edda, I was sure of it.

Maybe Solas as well? Although I still believed that he had hidden his connection to the system the whole time.

I did find out about him being in the Nymph Union when the final system message began to list the names of all that were no longer connected to me...

That git!

"Yeah," Morty rubbed the back of his right arm. So, as if it still hurt him.

I nodded, placed my hand over his arm, and patted it.

"Good boy," I wasn’t proud that he had killed.

The war was pointless.

But the fact remained that he had fought for these people. That he had done everything he could for them.

"It’s about Pan, isn’t it?" Morty asked.

He had always been the one son who was prone to jealousy. The one boy who never got enough love.

I knew I would always be prouder of Pan than of him. That Mordred would always be my favorite.

"Your dimples are the most adorable thing I have ever seen," I patted his short blonde hair. "Back when you were little, you used to smile a lot."

Mordred placed a hand on his brother’s shoulder. His eyes were soft.

Aron and Nate were crying in the background. Handkerchiefs in their hands.

It was quite the moment. I wanted nothing to interrupt it.

"Titan, barrier," and I wanted to be certain that no dragon/Archdemon/cat person/lizardman, would fall from the sky and ruin the speech that only my family should hear.

"Sure!" He chirped.

It was just me and my sons in there. I shook my head.

Titan knew what I needed without me even telling him. That former boss mob of mine... who was now a real vampire.

Man, the good old days were back!

Pity that now that I was no longer a nymph the golden mushrooms went back to being mushrooms.

But, hey, I could do this!

Which was to hug my twins and bury my nose between them.

"Mountain of muscles," I told them, proud beyond measure. "Protectors of the weak!"

I felt the need for a handkerchief as well but knew that I wasn’t going to be getting one.

After all, Titan took all of mine as soon as Mordred and Morty came.

That git...

"Your father is just a drake," I told them.

They nodded as one.

My chuckle echoed in the barrier.

"Who has no more powers anymore," I continued. They needed to know that the only thing I could offer them now was food.

Tasty, warm, and filling food!

But just food.

Not healing food. No magical food.

"But, on the bright side, I will have you all around my bed when the time comes! When I’m old and gray. Or white and frail! Just like my Old Girl and Grumpy Pants had me!"

And wasn’t it ironic that the children whom you took care of the least loved you the most?

"Dad, you’re not dying," Morty countered as he took out a golden vial. "We went through four mountains worth of demons to find the Archdemoness Mary."

He gave me something which could solve the world’s problems! A mana connector!

"I need this, yes," I was going to solve my family’s problems with this.

As selfish as it was.

"It is your choice to give it to me or not. Just know that I will get white in my hair. End up needing help going to the toilet," I took a deep breath.

It was one thing to know it. Another to say it aloud.

"But, hey, even an elderly person can cook! Even if I need help with that! And I will cook for all three of you until I drop!"

It was the promise of the century.

My promise.

"For Mordred, who likes grilled cheese sandwiches more than onion soups," I began because that was what I found important.

That was what I knew about him.

"And Morty, who likes his pancakes with blueberries!" I exclaimed as I patted my candy fiend of a Lich son on the fluffy blonde locks.

"And Pan! I... don’t know what he likes to eat," that was the saddest thing I had ever had to admit.

"But you’ll find out, right?" Morty asked.

I wanted to sing. I wanted to dance.

Instead, I took hold of Morty’s robes and began to wipe my eyes.

"Yeah! Pancakes, cake, tiramisu...!"

Pan had to like one of these things. Who didn’t?

And so, I went to Pan in his time of need.

Also... I ran out of paper so that is the end of this diary. It will be quite a while until I get another one, but, hey, how expensive can a diary be?

(This was scribbled on the back cover of Sylvan’s diary:

God darn it all! 10,000,000 mana points for a diary! I’ll have to save up for months! Maybe I could use some napkins to jot stuff down? Food for thought.)
