Chapter 32 - 032. Just now... was that Nan Huaiyu?

Chapter 32: 032. Just now... was that Nan Huaiyu?

Nan Wan cleaned the last plate, turned around, and rolled her eyes, "What else? You think I would sell your precious stuff?"

The two of them walked to the sofa, kicked off their slippers, and slumped together.

The television was playing a recently popular variety show, but neither of them was watching. It seemed to be just on to fill the room with some noise.

Zhi Mei was munching on snacks from the table, shot a glance at the person beside her, "Was that... Nan Huaiyu just now?"

Nan Wan flipped through the magazine in her hand, not really bothered, and nodded, "I don’t know what’s gotten into him, randomly coming over to pick a fight with me."

Just the thought of that strong tobacco smell made her a bit nauseous.

Zhi Mei took a sip of water, subtle emotions hiding between her gentle brows, "You... really don’t know why?"

Nan Wan was taken aback, stopped turning the pages of the magazine, and her heartbeat skipped a beat.

A moment later, she resumed as she was, continuing to flip through the pages, "After all, he and I share half the blood, he wouldn’t go that far."

Zhi Mei listened, her lips moved, but in the end, she said nothing. After watching the show for a while, she went to take a shower.

When she came out of the bathroom, she found the television still on, and the person on the sofa was curled up into a small ball, with her brows slightly furrowed.

Maybe only Zhi Mei knew that it had been a long, long time since Nan Wan slept well. Sometimes, it was because of the hospital work, but more often, it was because... she couldn’t sleep.

Even when asleep, she would be entangled by nightmares. If she woke up, she would just lie awake until dawn. If she didn’t wake up, she’d remain trapped in the dream until the piercing alarm went off.

Zhi Mei turned off the television, returned to the bathroom to blow-dry her hair, then went to the bedroom, grabbed a blanket, and quietly covered Nan Wan, the entire process not making a single extra sound.

She didn’t turn off the lights.

Back in the bedroom, she found Jiashu had kicked off the blanket. Seeing that rosy little face, Wen Wan’s face softened with a gentle smile.

The next day, when Nan Wan went downstairs, she found someone repairing the lights in the hallway.

Her steps paused slightly, a bit surprised.

She had called so many times and no one came. Now that she got used to the pitch-black darkness, someone came to fix it?

As Nan Wan walked out the stairway, she vaguely heard the conversation between the two men.

"Fixing a few lights for a thousand bucks. If I could get a few jobs like this every day, it’d be great."

"Dream on. Rich people don’t just throw money around, and they don’t do charity every day, do they?"

"But I’m telling you, the guy yesterday didn’t look like an ordinary person. If it weren’t for the kid, maybe my daughter would’ve had a shot."

"Heh, you sure dare to dream, brother. Aren’t you afraid of throwing your back out?"

"Why not? My daughter’s the school beauty, top of her class, lots of people lined up pursuing her."

...

Nan Wan was startled, a deep and defined face suddenly flashed through her mind.
