Chapter 100: 053 Freshmen Opening Ceremony_5
"Shen You’an isn’t a monster. What, does she have three eyes, two noses, and two mouths or something?"
"It’s hard to say whether she can continue maintaining her legend. Do you all know? There’s a new prodigy among the freshmen this year..."
The boy wore a burgundy suit-style uniform, walking slowly under the morning sunlight.
"It’s him."
Ren Chong pointed to the boy, "The prodigy about to shake Shen You’an’s status as the number one genius—Gu Bichen."
The boy’s appearance was elegant, his demeanor refined, and a scholarly air enveloped him, making him stand out among his peers.
Yet these boys and girls, raised in noble families or intellectual households and trained with the finest aristocratic education, though prone to gossip, would never lose their composure or squeal inappropriately with excitement.
The privileged sons and daughters of heaven carried their own unique pride. In their own lives, they were always the main characters.
Thus, they only glanced briefly at him, with some casting a couple of curious looks. That was all.
"Gu Bichen? Why does that name sound familiar to me?" Wang Chiru stroked his chin, frowning in thought.
"I remember now. Winner of gold medals in the national CMO, ICHO, and CPHO competitions, breaking the record for the most events to win gold medals."
CMO: National Olympiad in Mathematics.
ICHO: National Olympiad in Chemistry.
CPHO: National Olympiad in Physics.
For students who had been competing in these events since childhood, these competition abbreviations were second nature.
At that, everyone suddenly understood: "So it’s him."
"Also the second-place winner in the CC Computer Science Competition." This prize was highly prestigious, with a difficulty level far surpassing the knowledge scope of high school students.
"Damn, a genius among geniuses. Looks like Shen You’an finally has some competition."
Zhu Ci crossed his arms, a mischievous glint in his eyes as if relishing the drama.
After many years of chasing Shen You’an and realizing that intellect had its limits and he couldn’t keep up, Zhu Ci had given up and found solace in observing from the sidelines. Now, he enjoyed watching someone challenge Shen You’an.
"You lot can only gossip behind people’s backs. If you have the guts, go confront him face-to-face. Then I might look up to you." A cold voice unceremoniously interrupted.
Zhu Ci raised an eyebrow and turned his head, letting out a cold laugh. "Gao Yuyue, you’re just one of Shen You’an’s defeated rivals. What gives you the right to lecture me here?"
The girl was tall, her features refined and beautiful. Her porcelain-white cheeks glowed with an icy radiance, flawless as white jade under sunlight.
Gao Yuyue and Shen You’an had been rivals since elementary school. Unfortunately, no matter how hard Gao Yuyue tried, she always lagged behind Shen You’an, leaving her deeply frustrated.
In middle school, before an exam, Gao Yuyue once boldly challenged Shen You’an, vowing to surpass her. Someone egged her on, asking what she would do if she failed.
Gao Yuyue left herself no way out, declaring that if she lost, she would swim nude in the school’s Swan Lake.
She wasn’t just pushing herself; she was pushing Shen You’an, too.
But Shen You’an feared nothing and crushed Gao Yuyue completely.
Gao Yuyue was a tough character as well. She followed through with her promise and actually swam naked in the lake, creating a sensation across the campus that lingered for an entire month.
As a noble-born who exuded innate pride, Gao Yuyue could accept defeat from no one but Shen You’an, the sole person who repeatedly put her in second place. It could be said that no one had greater reason to despise Shen You’an than her.
Yet this proud individual still spoke up for Shen You’an.
"And you? What gives you the right to pass judgment? The game hasn’t even started, yet you’ve already decided the outcome. Frog at the bottom of the well, blinded to the vast sky above."
With that, she let out a cold snort and walked away decisively.
Zhu Ci, fuming, pointed at Gao Yuyue’s retreating back. "How has she even made it this far in life?"
Her mouth really deserved a slap.
Ren Chong tried to comfort him. "She’s the eldest daughter of the Gao family. Naturally, she’s got the privilege to act willful. Calm down, calm down."
Everyone here had impressive family backgrounds, but the Gao family, as an aristocracy with a century-long history, was on another level. They had deeper legacies and academic accomplishments, having consistently produced top scientific minds for over a century, far surpassing the nouveau riche of today.
In Class A of the first year, students were arriving one by one. Most of them had been in the same social circle since elementary school, all too familiar with one another.
Even during summer vacations, they shared the same tutoring or competition classes, so familiar that they were sick of the sight of each other.
The classroom was quiet. No one was chatting. Some were reading, others listening to audio, and some scrolling on their phones.
Of course, if observed closely, they were reading original-language books, listening to FM.138.88 (English Level 6 listening exercises), and on their phones, browsing reference works like "A Comprehensive Dictionary of Historical Official Positions."
These moments were rare opportunities for relaxation, a time to indulge in whatever they found interesting.
In a corner of the back row, Shen You’an sat alone, pulling out a sketchbook. Resting her cheek on one hand, she gazed out at Swan Lake beyond the window and let her pencil glide lightly across the paper, as if painting with water, her strokes fluid and effortless.
A shadow fell beside her as someone took a seat.
Shen You’an remained unmoved, her pencil continuing its path.
"Azure waters caress the sky, cloud blossoms and frothy waves cradle white lotuses, rippling reflections of pavilion shadows, swans frolicking upon the tide, a single step into this scenic painting."
A warm, pleasant voice floated to her ears, as gentle and refreshing as a spring breeze on a sunny morning.
Shen You’an squinted slightly, turning her head slowly.
The boy had sharp, graceful eyebrows and an air of refined elegance, like a jade-like gentleman.
"Only Huang Shibo’s poetry could match such a painting."
The boy’s eyes shone with genuine admiration, and his smile was pure.
"Gu Bichen, pleased to meet you."
Shen You’an raised an eyebrow, her demeanor languid.
"Shen You’an."
"I know who you are."
His clear, bright eyes rippled faintly, like water stirred by a gentle breeze.
Shen You’an chuckled lightly. "Do you really?"
Just then, the classroom speaker crackled to life as Shen Huailu’s stern voice echoed through: "Attention all freshmen, led by Class A and homeroom teachers, proceed to the auditorium in an orderly fashion for the opening ceremony. Assemble within ten minutes."
Shen You’an laid down her pencil and suddenly remembered that she hadn’t written the speech she promised Shen Huailu.
Never mind, she’d just wing it.
