Chapter 1053 - Chapter 1053 Chapter 1057 Night Vendetta

Chapter 1053: Chapter 1057: Night Vendetta Chapter 1053: Chapter 1057: Night Vendetta Zhu Minglang forced himself to remain calm.

He stepped forward and began to examine the corpse of the Earth Temple God.

He wanted to know if there was any special cursed object on the body of the Earth Temple God.

Strong curses usually have very strict triggering conditions. For example, some folk curse-masters make a paper effigy, write the person’s name on it, and then they can pierce it with needles; the person represented by the paper effigy will suffer accordingly.

Such curses are not performed with just any paper. The paper must be made from trees planted in the same year as the victim, the ink bearing their name must be made from their own blood, and finally, the victim must not possess any protective talismans.

Curse killings seem mysterious and indefensible, but a curse-master cannot kill a living person out of thin air; there must be direct or indirect contact with the victim before the killing.

Therefore, there must be traces that lead to curse killings!

There was nothing on the corpse, but the objects the victim had spat out were a bit odd.

“This is an unburned piece of wood, with characters on it…”

Zhu Minglang did not mind getting dirty as he began to inspect the ashes spat out by the Earth Temple God.

Among the ashes were incompletely burned items, and upon close inspection, one could even make out the character “Wei ” (position).

“It looks like a spiritual tablet.” said Wen Lingfei.

Zhu Minglang vaguely remembered something; he went outside the temple and saw a temple monk kneeling outside the steps, trembling like an old dog.

“Come here,” Zhu Minglang said to the temple monk.

“Your servant is here.” The temple monk crawled over, not daring to stand up.

“How did your Earth Temple God deal with the Wei Family of Moon City who were in mourning? Tell the truth!” Zhu Minglang did not conceal his divine radiance any longer, his brilliance shining dazzlingly bright even in the dense night.

The temple monk was already scared witless, not daring to hide anything, he trembled as he said, “Our God instructed to set the Wei Family’s ancestral hall on fire, burning all their ancestral tablets.”

Zhu Minglang’s brows furrowed tightly!

The Earth Temple God was far too unreliable; Old Wei had already said he had spent his entire life doing good deeds, including records that he and his son were good people in the Earth Temple itself. The child’s untimely death was an accident, and cursing the heavens was simply to vent their emotions, nothing too serious, yet this Earth Temple God went as far as to burn down the Wei Family’s ancestral hall entirely, which was tantamount to destroying the family’s accrued virtue!

For the common people, the virtues accumulated over generations were not easily come by!

“Absurd, what barbarity! Even if the deities lack the patience to enlighten every person, they should not stoop to such despicable means and destroy someone’s lifetime of faith and virtue!” Zhu Minglang could no longer contain his anger when he heard this.

He had thought that the Earth Temple God had transformed into a monk to comfort the family. Zhu Minglang initially didn’t interfere since the God seemed to have a good attitude at first, which was, after all, a divine duty. Little did he know that after he left, the Earth Temple God had lost patience and set the ancestral hall on fire.

This burning of the ancestral hall did not only destroy the family’s accumulated virtue over generations but also validated the rampant rumors, making it impossible for a person devoted to goodness to bear such universal condemnation!

“It’s likely that the death of the Earth Temple God has a lot to do with the Wei Family; we need to go have a look,” said Wen Lingfei.

“Ah??? What happened to Our God??” The temple monk’s face was filled with shock, his body turning towards the main gate, and what he saw next made him jump several meters high like a wildcat under attack!

“Take care of the Earth Temple God’s aftermath. If a higher-ranking god comes by, tell him that the Earth Temple God was barbaric in his actions and was seized by some dark forces that powerfully curse-killed him,” Wen Lingfei said to the Temple Monk.

The Temple Monk could never have expected things to turn out this way. Although a flash of suspicion passed through his eyes, suspecting that the death of the Earth Temple God might have been caused by these two Superior Gods, this suspicion quickly vanished from his heart. With their level, there was absolutely no need to kill the Earth Temple God in this way.

“Is it related to the daytime funeral?” the Temple Monk asked cautiously.

“Indeed, I fear that some evil immortals with strong mana are causing trouble,” Wen Lingfei said.

“This curse power is no less than the Curse of the God Servants. It’s mostly because the Earth Temple God’s act of arson both violated his own divine oath and was caught by someone who deeply understands the laws of the divine,” Zhu Minglang said.

“Let’s go to the Wei Family in Moon City.”

The two hurried to Moon City.

After night had fallen, curfews began in all the major Divine Cities of the God Territories.

Fairy City of Yuheng was no exception. Even though the Yuheng Star God was right above, to prevent the things of the night from exploiting any crevices, the vast majority of people were locked inside their homes, not venturing outside.

The streets should have been silent. However, there was a household where the sound of the suona was piercingly shrill, the grief wrenching hearts and splitting lungs transmitted through the distinctive musical tones of the suona to the ears of every household.

People were unable to sleep, and some opened their windows to curse loudly.

“In the middle of the night, why are you playing the suona? Can’t you hold a proper vigil? Aren’t you afraid of attracting divine punishment again?”

“Everyone knows by now the dirty deeds your family has done. If the child is gone, send him off quickly. Playing the suona in the dead of night–do you want the whole city to know your family has met retribution?”

“Are you crazy? Everyone’s known your true nature, and you’re not pretending anymore, starting to take revenge on the world?”

The curses were relentless, but the sound of the suona did not stop.

Finally, some neighbors couldn’t take it anymore. They got up in the middle of the night, filled with righteous anger, and gathered on the street, making their way to the Wei Family’s place.

They stood outside the low hedge, looking into the yard.

Inside the yard, there was no one playing the suona, only Wei Zhuo alone.

“Old Wei, have you gone mad? Even if you need to conduct funeral rites, the suona isn’t played in the dead of night. If this calls forth unclean things, your whole family won’t live well!” a big aunt holding a child scolded.

“Now I understand. Only in the daytime do unclean things come; at night come those who uphold justice,” Wei Zhuo said, with the wrinkles on his face becoming even more prominent. He bared his mouth, revealing a set of strange yellow teeth.

“Stop playing, your family is already despised by Old Heavenly Father. Continuing to do such hurtful things, your wife, your brother, your niece–none of them will have a good life!” a burly man yelled.

“This suona–it’s not for my child,” Wei Zhuo said.

“If it’s not for your dead child, then who is it for?” the big aunt holding the child asked.

“For you all!” Wei Zhuo broke into a laugh, his eyes turbid and devoid of any hint of the whites, his pupils deep, dark, and utterly without a glimmer of reflected light!

No sooner had his words fallen than a Yin Fire suddenly blazed through the entire street. The flames swept over like night wind, instantly igniting all the houses, and the fire, just like the daytime temple hall, consumed the gates and walls in an instant!!!
