Douluo: Transforming Xiao Wu into a Zerg Queen Was Just the Beginning -
Chapter 103: Vespene? Natives, You Can’t Handle This
The Star Luo Empire's Royal Palace — they had arrived.
Lin Fan still felt dizzy, as if he had just completed a journey that tore him away from the planet's core.
He quickly recovered and began surveying the surroundings.
Behind him, Xiao Wu and Zhu Zhuyun didn’t look much better. Both were pale and leaning on each other for support.
Zhu Zhuyun, whose cultivation level was lower, was especially unwell. She clung to Xiao Wu’s shoulder, dry heaving repeatedly, as though trying to purge her discomfort.
Lin Fan, rubbing his temple, turned to Davis who stood nearby and asked, “What’s your current situation? Report.”
“Yes, my Master!”
Davis took a moment to organize his thoughts before reporting in full: “Currently, this base has fifteen Tier-1 Hatcheries, ten thousand Zerglings, three thousand Hydralisks, and five thousand Drones. Other advanced structures haven’t been unlocked due to insufficient permissions, so no additional units have been hatched yet.”
“...”
Lin Fan was dumbfounded by Davis’s words.
He blinked in disbelief and demanded, “You—wait, what?! Say that again?!”
Zhu Zhuyun also widened her eyes, looking around the Zerg base with astonishment.
Davis, sensing something might be wrong, asked cautiously, “What is it, Master? Is there… something unsatisfactory?”
Lin Fan took a deep breath, waved his hand, and closed his eyes to connect to the Zerg neural network.
“Forget it. I’ll check it myself.”
Buzz.
Countless red nodes appeared in Lin Fan’s mental landscape, arranged in dense, irregular formations.
A single glance was enough to give him a full picture of the base’s current unit composition.
Opening his eyes, Lin Fan looked at Davis with a complicated expression.
“Davis… what the hell were you thinking building so many units?!”
This was absurd.
In such a short time, Davis had amassed more combat units than Lin Fan had managed when starting from scratch.
If Zhu Zhuyun’s base had left him surprised and impressed…
Then Davis’s base was a full-blown shock!
Tens of thousands of Zerg units, with Hydralisks and Zerglings continuously being spawned in massive waves!
It seemed Davis wouldn’t be satisfied until the base was completely overflowing with Zerg forces. But from what Lin Fan could tell, this base was located beneath the Star Luo Empire’s royal palace!
Davis had essentially dug straight under the palace to build a massive Zerg hive!
Now that was… kind of thrilling to think about.
Scratching his head in embarrassment, Davis muttered, “I just wanted to test how powerful Master’s gift really was, and well… one thing led to another…”
Lin Fan rolled his eyes and looked around at the sea of Zerg units, completely speechless.
It seemed men had an innate obsession with mass production and warfare.
Once they discovered they could control a system capable of endlessly producing combat units, they’d go all in.
Thank goodness he’d only granted Davis Tier-1 Zerg genetic access. If he had opened Tier-3 permissions, with Davis’s personality...
The Star Luo Empire might’ve already been flipped upside down by the time Lin Fan arrived.
Wait.
Lin Fan suddenly realized something crucial.
He looked at Davis curiously and asked, “Where did you get the energy for all this? I recall the energy crystals I provided weren’t nearly enough to hatch that many units.”
Davis chuckled and pulled out a dark green gem from his clothes, handing it over.
“I found this in the royal treasury. It looked similar to the crystals you gave me, Master, so I tested it. Turns out—it’s packed with energy!”
Lin Fan turned the gem over in his hand, his expression growing increasingly intrigued.
This crystal… was very interesting.
While it didn’t contain as much energy as the specialized Zerg energy crystals he had crafted, the energy within it was incredibly pure—almost unnaturally so.
In fact, it felt like this gem had been created specifically for energy extraction. It had no other use whatsoever.
But with the current level of technology on the Douluo Continent, how could such a crystal even exist?
Then it clicked.
Vespene.
The gem's properties were strikingly similar to Vespene gas minerals—a universally sought-after resource in the cosmos.
Vespene could store far more energy than almost any other material. Naturally, high-level civilizations strictly controlled Vespene mining sites, never allowing them to fall into lesser hands.
Just one Vespene vein was enough to multiply the technological and military output of a mid-tier civilization several times over.
To the Zerg, Vespene was a treasure beyond compare.
If a single Zerg egg could be successfully laid within an active Vespene vein, within half a year, a fleet capable of conquering an entire star system could be born.
A strange gleam flickered in Lin Fan’s eyes.
This particular crystal didn’t quite reach Vespene’s standards, but it was still far beyond what this world should be capable of producing.
Fascinating.
Lin Fan looked at Davis and asked, “Where did your royal family find this?”
Davis thought for a moment and replied, “According to the records, it was mined from a massive meteorite that crashed in the Star Luo Empire’s territory tens of thousands of years ago.”
“The royal family extracted the entire meteorite and stored it in the national treasury. Since no one could figure out what it was good for, it was just left there, forgotten.”
Lin Fan’s expression cleared.
So it was a meteorite remnant.
That made sense.
The Star Luo Empire really had gotten lucky.
From Davis’s account, it sounded like the meteorite was a drifting fragment of Vespene that had broken free from a proper vein and wandered the galaxy until it was pulled in by Douluo’s gravity.
Unfortunately, this world lacked the technological advancement to properly exploit such a rare find.
Otherwise, the Star Luo Empire might’ve already risen to interstellar power, entered the universe, and launched assaults on the Divine Realm itself.
Chances were, not even the so-called "God Realm Committee" of this world had any clue what this mineral truly was.
If they did… they'd probably go completely mad.
This also explained why the original story never mentioned anything of the sort.
To the people of this world, such knowledge had no value—they simply weren’t capable of using it.
Lin Fan narrowed his eyes.
There were still far too many unknowns in this world.
He couldn’t help but wonder… were there even greater things out there? Things that could push the Zerg into hyper-evolution?
