Chapter 223: Chapter 223: Shrek and Tang Sect

The two Title Douluo still standing in the square finally noticed the sudden arrival of Fang Chang and Zhu Jing.

Their first reaction wasn’t to fight—but to flee.

They leapt forward, trying to vault over the low wall at the rear of the square under the cover of night.

But at this point, Fang Chang and Zhu Jing obviously had no intention of letting them go.

With a brief exchange of glances, they quickly decided: Zhu Jing would stay behind to block the remaining black-robed Soul Masters, while Fang Chang would give chase to the two fleeing Title Douluo.

At this moment, there were still nine black-robed men left on the square. Seeing their companions killed and their leaders run, they were momentarily paralyzed by panic.

It wasn’t until Zhu Jing charged at them that they finally reacted and joined forces to face her.

Among the nine were seven Soul Sages and two Soul Douluo. Even with this lineup, they still brought considerable pressure upon Zhu Jing.

Behind her, the phantom of the Sea Emperor Spider flickered into view. She activated her seventh Soul Skill immediately—her body swelled several times in size, transforming into a pale golden Sea Emperor Spider. She had initiated her Martial Soul True Body right off the bat.

Then, her ninth Soul Ring lit up—the terrifying hundred-thousand-year Soul Ring.

In the blink of an eye, seawater flooded the square, forming a cylindrical region of water centered around Zhu Jing.

Strangely enough, the water surrounded her in a thirty-meter radius, completely enveloping the nine enemies, and the depth reached five to six meters, yet not a single drop spilled beyond this boundary.

"It’s a Domain—she’s using a Domain!" one of the Soul Douluo among them surfaced and shouted in shock.

But his voice hadn’t traveled far before a crashing wave slammed him back underwater.

This was Zhu Jing’s ninth Soul Skill—Sea Blue Domain. It transformed the interior of the Domain into a vast sea, while allowing her full control over the water inside.

Against sea-type Soul Beasts, this might not be that effective. But for humans lacking underwater breathing abilities, it was practically a death sentence.

Unless one had a Domain of their own to counteract it, escaping it meant severe limitations on movement and power.

With all eight eyes glowing, the Sea Emperor Spider’s Domain intensified. The previously calm "sea surface" suddenly erupted into towering waves, while the water pressure below rapidly increased.

"Sea Blue Domain—Crush!" Zhu Jing whispered in her mind, activating the Domain’s second form.

The seven Soul Sages were the first to buckle under the escalating pressure, their bodies exploding one after another, leaving only the two Soul Douluo struggling to hold on.

But even they didn’t last long. Cracks began to appear on their skin, and bright red blood seeped from the torn flesh.

As the cracks multiplied, their resistance weakened further—until they too were crushed by the tremendous pressure.

Zhu Jing withdrew her Domain and glanced at the nine corpses, then leapt over the low wall in her Martial Soul True Body state, chasing in the direction Fang Chang had gone.

Those two Title Douluo were the real targets—compared to them, these others were just appetizers.

Not far from the square, in a small grove, Zhu Jing suddenly came to a halt and reverted to her human form.

Following her gaze, under the bright moonlight stood Fang Chang, like a midnight asura, gripping a black-robed Title Douluo in each hand.

What stunned her most was that both these Title Douluo had their Soul Power completely abolished, and their main joints had been violently dislocated. Their limbs dangled helplessly like broken puppets.

These were genuine Title Douluo! One of them had even reached Rank 96, nearly matching Zhu Jing herself in strength.

Yet under Fang Chang’s hands, they had been rendered powerless in mere minutes?

A chill ran down her spine. She had thought she already held Fang Chang in high regard, but clearly... she had still underestimated him.

"Come, Zhu Jing, see if you recognize these two," Fang Chang said casually, tossing the two disabled Douluo in front of her like garbage.

She cautiously pulled back their hoods, removed their masks, and tilted their faces toward the moonlight.

Though pale and twisted in agony, their faces were still clearly recognizable.

"I know them. One is the current headmaster of Shrek Academy, the other is an elder of the academy."

She wiped her hand clean on their robes after touching their faces.

Even in the capital of the Sun Moon Empire, Title Douluo of this level were rare. Naturally, those in the same circle would recognize each other.

"So it’s you!" The two Title Douluo also got a clear look at Zhu Jing’s face and recognized her instantly.

"Hahaha, we should’ve guessed—it’s the Pavilion Master of Pearl Sea Pavilion, the Pearl Sea... Sea Spider—hahaha!" the headmaster of Shrek Academy gave a grim, self-deprecating laugh.

Pearl Sea Pavilion was the organization Zhu Jing had founded in Sun Moon City. To avoid suspicion, it had never recruited reincarnated Soul Beasts or had any ties to spider-type Soul Beasts.

Only now did these two old Spider Hunters realize—their enemy had been hiding right under their noses all along.

"Oh?" Fang Chang raised an eyebrow. "So does that mean Shrek Academy is full of Spider Hunters?"

If that were the case, perhaps it was time to plan another purge of Shrek Academy.

"Probably not," Zhu Jing replied, easing his worry. "The Spider Hunters mainly target spider-type Soul Beasts and generally consist of elites. Ordinary students likely aren’t involved."

"But the academy’s instructors? I’d bet a good number are connected to the Spider Hunters."

Fang Chang nodded, then walked back toward the two men.

He grabbed the headmaster of Shrek Academy by the collar and lifted him. "What’s your connection with the Tang Sect? Do you know someone named Tang San?"

At the mention of the Tang Sect, the headmaster’s eyelid twitched—but he quickly regained his composure. "What Tang Sect? I’ve never heard of it."

"He’s lying," Zhu Jing interjected. She’d noticed the flicker of emotion in his expression, too.

"I’ll ask again. You really don’t know the Tang Sect?" Fang Chang asked, pressing his foot into the man’s lower abdomen. The headmaster’s face instantly went deathly pale.

Even so, he gritted his teeth and resisted.

"Still not talking?" Fang Chang increased the pressure, causing the headmaster to grunt in pain.

"Hm?" Fang Chang’s foot almost touched the ground. He shifted it left and right slightly.

"I—I’ll talk!" the headmaster finally broke, unable to endure the inhuman torment any longer.

"W-we—Shrek Academy was... rebuilt with the Tang Sect’s backing," he stammered even though Fang Chang had already removed his foot.

"And the Tang Sect is one of the three major factions supporting the Spider Hunters. We are... elders... of the Tang Sect..."

"Oh, I see," Fang Chang pressed on, "Then who are the other two supporting factions?"

Zhu Jing leaned in as well. The secrets of the mysterious Spider Hunters were about to be revealed—she held her breath in anticipation.

"They’re... they’re..." the headmaster began, but then his head suddenly drooped.

He was dead. So was the elder beside him.

They had revealed just enough truth to lower Fang Chang and Zhu Jing’s guard, then took the chance to bite down on poison hidden in their mouths.

Just like that... a crucial lead was lost.
