Chapter 63: Satisfaction

Julia’s lips curled in satisfaction as she noticed Aurora’s momentary hesitation, fully aware of the jealousy she had sparked.

Aurora crossed her arms, a slight smirk playing on her lips.

"Seriously?" Aurora asked, her tone sharp yet calm. "It was Amos who draped Lucas’s jacket over his arm. Amos works for Lucas, after all."

Aurora’s voice held a tinge of pity as she added, "You’re only acting like a maid, Julia."

The sentence hit Julia like a slap, and her smirk faltered.

Her fists clenched tightly at her sides, but she held back her retort.

Aurora didn’t linger to see Julia’s reaction; she turned and walked out of the dining room, her steps steady.

She had more important things to attend to.

Aurora headed toward Nana’s room, hoping to find her and smooth things over after the awkward dinner.

But upon arriving, she found the room empty.

She spotted a maid passing by and quickly called out.

"Excuse me," Aurora said. "Do you know where Nana is?"

The maid stopped and gave a polite smile. "Yes, madam. She’s on the balcony, enjoying the night view."

Aurora nodded in thanks, feeling a mix of relief and determination.

"Thank you," she said and proceeded toward the balcony.

As she approached, she saw Nana carefully making her way towards the stairs, carrying a large bucket.

Aurora’s eyes widened as she noticed water lightly spilling from the top of the bucket with each of Nana’s slow steps.

"That bucket must be too heavy," she thought, her concern growing.

"Nana!" Aurora called out, her voice full of worry. "Wait a moment!"

Aurora quickly turned and called for the maid again. "Come quickly and assist Nana with the bucket!" she urged.

The maid, hearing the urgency in Aurora’s voice, rushed over. "Yes, madam," she said, taking hold of the bucket as instructed.

Aurora sighed, watching the maid carry the load. She would have helped herself if it weren’t for Dr. Evans’s strict warnings to avoid bending, twisting, or carrying anything heavy due to her pregnancy.

The thought crossed her mind how overwhelming these rules were—almost too many to keep up with—but she brushed it aside for now.

With the maid’s help, the bucket was taken to the balcony.

Nana continued to move slowly, and Aurora followed closely behind, feeling the weight of their earlier conversation still lingering between them.

When they reached the balcony, the maid left, leaving just Aurora and Nana together.

The silence between them was thick, and Aurora struggled to find the right words.

She glanced at Nana, gathering her courage.

Finally, she spoke softly, "Nana, I’m deeply sorry for not telling you sooner. I... I didn’t know how."

Nana, ever gentle, placed her hand on Aurora’s, her touch comforting. "It’s fine," she said, her voice calm. "As long as you and Lucas get back together."

Aurora’s eyes widened slightly at Nana’s words, her heart softening.

Nana loosened her grip but continued. "You see, I know you are the right one for Lucas. You would never cheat on him or betray him because your love is genuine. That’s why I want you both to be together. I know Lucas... he’s a good man."

Aurora’s smile faded a little, her expression tinged with sadness.

"He may be a good man," Aurora thought, "but he wasn’t a good husband."

Memories of being neglected for years flashed through her mind—the nights she spent alone, the way Lucas would disappear for months without a word, only to return as if nothing had happened. She had endured three years of his coldness, longing for affection that never came.

Nana noticed the shift in Aurora’s expression and asked, concerned, "Or... isn’t he good to you?"

Aurora couldn’t bring herself to cover for Lucas anymore. She shook her head slowly. "He hasn’t been," she admitted quietly. "And I don’t like having his ex-girlfriend around either."

Nana’s face hardened instantly. "That rude pest!" she exclaimed, clenching her fists. "I knew that Julia was trouble the moment I laid eyes on her."

Aurora smiled at Nana’s fiery reaction, but something still didn’t sit right with her.

Everyone in the family seemed to know Julia—she’d been a childhood friend of Lucas—so how could Nana not remember her?

Unable to hold back her curiosity, Aurora asked, "Nana, how come you don’t remember her?"

Nana hesitated, her voice quieter now. "Old age, my dear. I’m starting to forget some things."

Aurora wanted to suggest that Nana see a doctor, but before she could, Nana interrupted with a playful grin. "And that’s why I want you to cement your relationship with Lucas and give me great-grand pups before I leave this world."

Aurora rolled her eyes playfully. "Come on, Nana, no one’s dying anytime soon."

Nana chuckled. "Pfft. Just wait a couple of years—maybe even one—and you’ll see." Her laugh was contagious, and soon Aurora found herself laughing too, the light-hearted moment chasing away her earlier worries.

Nana’s smile softened, and after Aurora’s laughter died down, she leaned in to give some advice. "Listen, dear, if you want to keep someone like Julia from wedging her way between you and Lucas, you need to make your relationship unshakable. Talk to him. Be honest about what you need. And don’t be afraid to take the lead sometimes. Show him that you’re not going anywhere."

Aurora nodded thoughtfully, taking in Nana’s words. She knew they were true.

After a moment, Nana gestured toward the balcony railing.

"Come here," Nana said with a mysterious smile. "I want to show you something."

Aurora followed Nana’s gaze down to the base of the mansion. Her eyes widened when she spotted Julia walking out, a wide smile plastered on her face. But something was off—Julia was no longer carrying Lucas’s jacket.

Did she give it back to him? Aurora wondered, her heart sinking at the thought.

Nana, however, seemed to have a different plan.

Moving toward the bucket on the railing, she gave it a slight push.

Before Aurora could even register what was happening, the bucket tipped over, sending its contents cascading over the edge.

Aurora gasped, watching in shock as the water poured directly over Julia’s head below.

The sound of water splashing and Julia’s surprised shriek filled the air.

The bucket clattered to the ground, breaking apart as Julia stood there, soaked to the skin, her clothes drenched in what smelled like wastewater.

Julia blinked in disbelief, her wet lashes heavy as she looked up in fury.

Aurora’s shock quickly turned into uncontrollable laughter.

She could hardly contain herself as she watched Julia sputter, completely taken by surprise.

Julia’s fists clenched, her face twisting with anger.

"Who did this?!" she shrieked, glaring up at the balcony.

Her eyes landed on Aurora and Nana, and for a moment, she looked as though she wanted to scream at them both.

Instead, she stomped off, still dripping wet, muttering furiously under her breath.

Aurora finally stopped laughing, wiping a tear from the corner of her eye.

She felt lighter than she had in a long time, and the sight of Nana standing there with her arms crossed, a smug grin on her face, made her heart swell with affection.

Turning to Nana, Aurora pulled her into a gentle embrace.

"You’re the best, Nana," Aurora whispered with a smile.
