Chapter 57: Sharp Hiss

Aurora stepped into the lounge elevator, her guards flanking her as the doors slid shut.

She stared straight ahead, calm and composed, though her mind briefly wandered back to the confrontation with Sophia.

The elevator descended swiftly, and moments later, the doors opened into the hotel lobby.

As Aurora stepped out with her guards, she heard a sharp hiss, like a snake spitting venom.

Her eyes darted to the side, where Madam Rossi, Lucas’s mother, stood by the front desk, her face twisted in contempt.

Next to her was Lucas’s sister, Nora, arms crossed and a sneer on her lips.

Nora didn’t hesitate to make her thoughts known.

"I told you, Mum," she said, her tone dripping with disdain. "Look at her—already sharing beds with wealthy men to gain power and attention. It’s just like I expected. And of course, she comes to this hotel."

Aurora rolled her eyes, uninterested in engaging with Nora’s petty insults. She knew they had likely followed her, desperate to corner her.

Turning on her heel, she started to walk away, but Madam Rossi stepped in her path, blocking her exit.

Her guards tensed, ready to intervene, but Aurora raised a hand, signalling them to hold back.

She turned to Madam Rossi, her gaze unflinching.

"You witch!" Madam Rossi spat, her voice shaking with fury. "Do you even understand what you and your filthy brother, Hades Grey, have caused? Because of him, my son is in jail! His business is crumbling, and his reputation is ruined!"

Aurora’s expression remained impassive.

"Lucas won’t stay there for long if evidence can prove his innocence," she said coolly, her tone a stark contrast to Madam Rossi’s venom.

Madam Rossi scoffed, her eyes narrowing in disbelief. "How about you and your filthy family withdraw the charges against my son?" she snapped, her voice laced with venom.

Aurora felt a flicker of annoyance but kept her composure. "Withdrawing charges won’t change anything," she replied, her tone firm. "The evidence has already been collected. And my family is not filthy."

Madam Rossi’s face twisted with rage, too blinded by her own hatred to hear the truth.

Believing Aurora was talking back to her rudely, she raised her hand to slap her.

Before the slap could land, one of Aurora’s guards swiftly grabbed Madam Rossi’s wrist, stopping her.

The force of the guard’s grip left Madam Rossi stunned, her eyes widening in shock.

Nora gasped, clearly not expecting anyone to interfere.

Madam Rossi struggled to pull her hand free, but the guard held firm.

Aurora stepped forward, her gaze piercing. "If you really want your son to get out of jail, Madam Rossi, I suggest you focus on gathering evidence instead of wasting time spying on me."

Madam Rossi’s mouth fell open in shock, unable to respond.

The guard finally released her wrist, and Aurora turned on her heel, walking away with her guards in tow.

Nora rushed to her mother’s side, her eyes landing on the faint marks left on Madam Rossi’s wrist.

She clenched her fists, seething. "She has the nerve to let her filthy guards lay a hand on you!"

Madam Rossi’s expression was a mix of anger and something else—something she hadn’t noticed before.

"Did you see it?" Madam Rossi muttered, her voice low.

Nora furrowed her brow. "See what?"

"Aurora’s belly," Madam Rossi replied, her tone sharp. "It’s different. It seems like she’s... pregnant."

Nora’s eyes widened in disbelief. "Pregnant?!"

Meanwhile, Aurora reached her car, a brief wave of dizziness washing over her.

She steadied herself, leaning against the door as the feeling slowly subsided.

Her guards, loyal as always, moved toward another vehicle, ready to follow her.

Aurora turned to them, her usual strength returning to her voice. "There’s no need to follow. Thank you for your help with Sophia."

The leader of the guards, a man with a sharp gaze, smiled warmly. "Thank you? You shouldn’t be thanking me. If anything, I should thank you for helping me when I was just a struggling bodyguard."

Aurora returned the smile, appreciating his loyalty.

As she stepped into her car and pulled the door closed, the leader barked an order to the others. "Bow and say your goodbyes!"

In unison, the guards bowed, their voices echoing in respect. "Goodbye, Madam Aurora."

Aurora smiled, not because of their admiration, but because she had cultivated such loyalty.

She nodded once, and her driver drove off.

---

Aurora’s car pulled up to the front of her mansion, and as soon as the door opened, she stepped out, steadying herself for a moment.

She walked inside, her heels clicking softly on the marble floor of the grand foyer.

The air inside felt heavier than usual, and as she reached the living room, a sudden wave of dizziness hit her.

She gripped the back of a nearby chair for support, closing her eyes and shaking her head in an attempt to shake it off.

Her vision blurred slightly, and just as she steadied herself, Ava appeared at the top of the stairs.

Ava had been cleaning when she noticed Aurora’s unsteady movements and immediately rushed down, concern etched across her face.

"Ms. Aurora, what’s wrong?" Ava asked, her voice full of worry.

Aurora shook her head, brushing off the concern politely.

"Nothing," she muttered, attempting to sound strong, though her voice wavered slightly.

She straightened her posture, trying to dismiss the dizziness that seemed to cling to her.

Ava, unconvinced, frowned and quickly turned toward the kitchen.

"I’ll get you a glass of water," she called over her shoulder as she hurried away.

Aurora, left alone, took a deep breath.

But then it hit her again—a stronger wave of dizziness. Her vision swirled, and before she could reach out for support, she collapsed to the floor.

The dull thud of her body hitting the ground echoed in the room.

Ava, already halfway to the kitchen, froze at the sound.

Her heart raced as she spun around, her eyes widening in terror.

"Ms. Aurora!" she screamed, rushing back into the living room.
