Chapter 53: Far Away
Chapter 53: Far Away
Hades quickly masked his fear with confidence.
He lunged forward at Lucas, aiming to hit him with a wild punch.
However, Lucas, fueled by the raw surge of anger, blocked Hades’s punch effortlessly.
Without hesitation, Lucas drove his fist into Hades’s abdomen, the force making Hades double over in pain.
Before Hades could react, Lucas shoved him hard, sending him crashing to the ground.
Hades barely had a second to catch his breath before Lucas was on him, raining punches down with relentless fury.
Hades tried to raise his arms to shield himself, but the blows came faster, each one harder than the last.
"You really think you can protect her?" Hades spat through the hits, his voice a mix of pain and scorn. "I’ll bury you alive, Lucas. And when I do, Aurora and her pups will be mine."
Lucas froze for a moment, his eyes darkening at the vile words.
"I’ll touch her, claim every inch of her... she’ll forget all about you."
Rage boiled over inside Lucas, exactly as Hades intended.
With a snarl, Lucas grabbed the silver rod lying nearby. In a blind fury, he swung it hard, the rod connecting with Hades’s face in a sickening thud.
Blood splattered from the impact, but Lucas was beyond reason, lost in the anger Hades had stoked.
He raised the rod again, ready to strike, when suddenly a voice pierced through the fight.
"Lucas!"
Lucas froze mid-swing, his breath heavy. He turned toward the voice, his heart pounding.
Aurora stood in the doorway, her eyes wide with shock.
For a second, Lucas felt a rush of relief and joy.
Aurora had found him. She was here to help him.
He started toward her, his face softening with hope.
But Aurora’s reaction shattered him.
She stepped back, fear clear in her eyes, her hand protectively resting on her belly as though he were a threat.
Lucas stopped in his tracks, confusion flooding him.
"Aurora, I—" he began, but before he could finish, the door swung open fully, and several policemen marched into the room, their faces stern and firm.
"Lucas Rossi, you’re under arrest for kidnapping, physical assault, and violence."
"Wait, what?" Lucas’s voice cracked with disbelief.
He glanced around wildly, trying to process what was happening. "I didn’t kidnap anyone! Hades attacked me!"
As he struggled to explain himself, his eyes darted to Hades, who was now smirking, a dark satisfaction playing across his bloody face.
That’s when Lucas realized—Hades had set him up. Deliberately provoked him. Planned every detail.
Lucas quickly turned back to Aurora, desperation creeping into his voice.
He reached out to her, pleading. "Aurora, you have to believe me. It’s all a lie! I didn’t kidnap anyone."
Aurora’s gaze flickered with something between sorrow and disbelief.
She wanted to care for him, to reach out, but the disgust was evident in her eyes.
Her voice came out cold, cutting through Lucas like a knife.
"I can’t believe you would try to murder my brother."
Lucas’s world tilted. "Aurora, please," he begged, his voice hoarse. "You have to believe me. I’d never—"
"Take this criminal away," Aurora said, her voice flat as she turned her back on him.
The policemen nodded, grabbing Lucas and cuffing him tightly.
He was speechless, his heart sinking as he looked at Hades, who now wore a triumphant grin.
Then, Aurora approached Hades, and with a dramatic, fake groan, Hades touched his bloodied lips, pretending to be weak and hurt.
Aurora rushed to his side, her concern immediate, while Lucas was dragged out of the room, powerless to stop any of it.
As the door closed behind him, Lucas’s heart shattered.
The sight of Aurora caring for Hades, believing his lies, twisted in his chest like a dagger.
He had lost everything in an instant, and Hades had won.
---
Aurora rushed to Hades’s side, her hand lightly resting on his arm as he groaned, his bloodied lips trembling in what appeared to be pain.
He clutched his ribs, putting on a show of weakness.
She looked over him, her eyes filled with concern.
"Are you alright?" Aurora asked softly, her voice barely above a whisper.
Hades gave a small, pained nod. "I’ll be fine... but I could use a first aid kit."
Aurora didn’t hesitate.
She helped him to his feet, his arm draped across her shoulders as they walked out of the room.
Hades leaned on her, allowing her to bear some of his weight as they made their way to her car.
The silence between them was heavy, but she said nothing, focused entirely on helping him.
They arrived at her mansion soon after. Aurora guided Hades inside and sat him on a couch in the living room.
She left briefly and returned with a first aid kit, her expression serious as she knelt beside him.
"I’ll clean the cuts first," she murmured, opening the kit and pulling out antiseptic wipes.
Carefully, she dabbed at the blood smeared across his lips, her touch gentle.
Hades winced dramatically, although the pain was far less than what he pretended.
He watched her, his eyes flickering with something far darker than the pain he feigned.
Aurora, oblivious to the satisfaction in his gaze, continued her work, unaware of the game he had been playing all along.
She worked quickly but carefully, wrapping gauze around his knuckles where Lucas had hit him.
As she tied the bandage, Hades glanced at her, a smirk playing at the corners of his mouth.
"Thank you, Aurora," he said quietly, his voice laced with fake gratitude.
Aurora gave him a tight smile, her focus still on his injuries.
She didn’t notice the way his eyes gleamed, how his smile turned predatory when her gaze was elsewhere.
As she bandaged his final wound, Hades leaned back against the couch, watching her with a twisted satisfaction.
Under his breath, too low for her to hear, he muttered, "Finally... Lucas will be far, far away from you."
Aurora didn’t catch the words. She packed up the first aid kit and stood, looking at him with concern. "You’ll be alright now. Just get some rest."
Hades smiled warmly at her, but the warmth never reached his eyes. "I will, thanks to you."
