Chapter 118: Great Nana Rossi

A few days later, the door to a quiet, softly lit private room opened.

An elderly woman, seated in a wheelchair with a blanket draped over her lap, looked up with an air of gentle elegance.

Her silver hair was neatly brushed, and a gentle smile played on her lips, though her eyes held a glimmer of surprise.

The nurse, dressed in a calming blue uniform, stepped into the room and spoke in a warm, soft voice, "Mrs. Rossi, you have a visitor."

Nana Rossi’s eyes sparkled with curiosity. "A visitor?" she echoed, her voice faint but filled with anticipation.

The nurse nodded, stepping aside as a familiar figure walked in.

Aurora moved gently into the room, her gaze settling on Nana Rossi.

She took in the sight of the beloved woman who had been such a strong presence in her life.

The nurse had told her about Nana Rossi’s health, but seeing her in person stirred something deep in Aurora’s heart.

Nana’s eyes widened as she focused on the young woman in front of her, recognition lighting up her face.

"Aurora?" she said, her voice filled with a warm fondness.

A soft chuckle escaped Aurora as she blinked back tears.

She felt a wave of relief wash over her, realizing that Nana Rossi still remembered her despite everything.

With misted eyes, she crossed the small space between them, leaning down to embrace Nana in a gentle but heartfelt hug.

"Oh, Nana," Aurora whispered, her voice thick with emotion. "I’ve missed you so much."

At the door, Lucas watched the reunion from his wheelchair, his face softening with a smile as he took in the scene.

Seeing Aurora and his Nana together brought him a quiet joy, a sense of peace that settled within him.

Meanwhile, outside in the children’s play area of the retirement home, cheerful laughter and excited voices filled the air.

Sunlight filtered through the trees, casting a warm glow on the children’s bright faces as they played together on the grassy field.

Aria and Leo were hard at work building a tall, colorful tower of blocks, carefully stacking one piece on top of the other.

Their small hands moved with focus, but their faces beamed with the thrill of the challenge.

"Higher, Leo! Make it as tall as you can!" Aria urged, her wide blue eyes sparkling with excitement.

Leo nodded, his face scrunched in concentration as he carefully placed another block on the top. "It’s going to be the tallest tower ever!"

Just then, a face popped up beside them.

Caleb, having noticed their creation from across the yard, knelt down beside them, his eyes bright with interest.

"What are you two working on here?" he asked, tilting his head as he studied the tower.

"We’re building a castle," Leo answered proudly, his chest puffing up a little. He gently steadied the structure as Caleb looked on.

"A very big castle," Aria added with a grin, handing Caleb another block. "Do you want to help?"

"Of course," Caleb replied, carefully placing the block on the growing tower.

He glanced back at them with a curious smile. "I came here to see my Great-Nana, like I usually do with my daddy. What about you two?"

Aria’s face lit up as she nodded eagerly. "We came to see our Great-Nana too! Mommy said it would make her happy."

Leo nodded in agreement. "Yup, that’s why we’re here," he said. "We get to spend some time with her."

Caleb’s eyes widened with delight, as if they had all become members of some special club. "Really? That’s so cool! We all came for the same reason," he said, his voice filled with wonder.

They continued stacking blocks, occasionally glancing up at each other, sharing amused looks and giggling.

After a moment, Aria paused, tilting her head as she examined Caleb’s face thoughtfully.

"Hey," she said, studying him intently, "your eyes are blue... just like mine."

Caleb blinked, a bit taken aback. He looked at Leo, who was staring back with the same realization. "And yours too!" Caleb said, pointing with a small, excited finger. "We all have blue eyes!"

The three of them exchanged glances, breaking into grins as they leaned in to inspect each other’s eyes more closely. Their identical blue eyes seemed to shimmer with shared delight.

"Maybe that makes us... I don’t know... castle friends?" Leo suggested, giving them both a wide grin.

"Yeah!" Aria agreed, laughing as she handed Caleb another block. "Castle friends with blue eyes!"

The trio laughed together, pleased with their new bond.

They turned their attention back to the tower, Caleb taking his turn to add another block, carefully balancing it on top.

They continued chatting, their voices filled with the serious tone that only children playing make-believe can manage.

Their conversation drifted from castles to knights and finally to the idea of having blue eyes as their special badge.

"Maybe blue eyes mean we’re all meant to be great friends," Caleb mused, giving each of them a thoughtful look.

Leo nodded in agreement. "Or maybe it means we’re all a little bit magical."

Aria’s face brightened. "Like wizards!" she said, eyes gleaming with excitement.

Just then, a familiar voice called from the edge of the play area, interrupting their lively conversation.

"Alright, Caleb, time to go!" Gabriel called out, smiling as he approached the children.

Caleb glanced over at Gabriel, a look of mild disappointment crossing his face. "But I’m in the middle of building a castle," he replied, gesturing to the tower of blocks.

Gabriel chuckled, nodding in understanding. "I know, buddy. But it’s time to see Great-Nana. She’s waiting for you."

Caleb looked back at Aria and Leo, his face torn between finishing the castle and leaving with Gabriel.

Then Gabriel addressed the other two. "And you too, Leo and Aria. Great-Nana would love to see you as well."

Aria and Leo exchanged a quick, excited glance. "Really?" Aria asked, bouncing up with excitement. "We get to see her too?"

Gabriel nodded. "That’s right. She’s been looking forward to it all day."

Leo and Aria scrambled to their feet, ready to go, while Caleb furrowed his brow, watching them with curiosity. "Wait... why are they coming too?" he asked, looking up at Gabriel with a puzzled expression.

Gabriel gave Caleb’s shoulder a gentle pat. "Well, Great-Nana would love to see all three of you together. It’ll make her very happy."

Caleb considered this for a moment, then gave a small nod.

"Alright then," he said, breaking into a smile. He reached out to take Aria and Leo’s hands. "Let’s go see Great-Nana."

With that, the three of them followed Gabriel, their small feet padding across the play area as they chattered excitedly, eager to share their latest stories with Great-Nana.
