Chapter 70: Half wolf, Half vampire

Chapter 70: Half wolf, Half vampire

"Your arrogance amuses me. I wonder how long it will last," the vampire mocked, a smug smirk playing on his lips before he burst into a fit of laughter.

Another vampire appeared at his side, whispering something in his ear that caused his grin to widen with sinister delight.

"They have opened it," Ray relayed calmly, his eyes scanning the scene.

"This just got interesting," Quinn remarked, folding his arms as though he were waiting for the perfect moment to act.

"You bastards!!!" The vampire leader suddenly erupted into a furious rage, slamming his fists against the balcony railings. His outburst was unexpected, his anger palpable, and his sudden shift in demeanor caused confusion among Quinn’s men, who exchanged puzzled glances.

"Do you like our welcome gift?" Quinn asked, stepping forward, his voice calm but dripping with calculated menace. His hands now hung loosely at his sides as he signaled his men to move into the half-burned building.

"Retreat!!!" The vampire leader bellowed, choking on his own words as panic set in. But it was too late, Quinn’s men had already surrounded the area, leaving no room for escape.

"Water the burning building and send someone to inform the king of the situation before he dies of a heart attack," Quinn commanded. His tone was cold, and Ray immediately left to carry out the orders.

"How...how did you know? Did you plant spies among us? But how?! Our distraction was flawless, we made sure of it! How did you uncover our plan before today?" The vampire stammered, trembling as fear seeped into his voice.

The leader’s confidence crumbled. He had gone to great lengths to ensure secrecy, even planting a spy within Quinn’s station to feed false information. But if the treasury assets had already been replaced, then the spy had failed, or worse, betrayed them.

"When it comes to spies, your taste is bad," Quinn stated, his voice sharp. "Also, we captured one of your half-dead men during the truce conflict. He wasn’t very cooperative, but he lived just long enough to spill the details of your plans, both your intent and your timing."

The vampire leader stepped back, his face a mask of defeat. A bitter sigh escaped him as he cursed his carelessness.

Quinn was no ordinary man. Every time the vampires tried to outwit him or wage war against his kingdom, he managed to outsmart them. They had attempted countless times to buy his loyalty, offering bribes beyond imagination, but Quinn’s integrity was unshakable. Arrogant, cruel, and infuriating as he was, his loyalty to his people remained absolute.

"Capture him!" One of Quinn’s men shouted as they made their way to the balcony. Both cautiously advanced toward the vampire, fully aware of the danger. He wasn’t just any vampire, his strength far surpassed theirs, even as wolves.

"I will move myself!" The vampire growled, his darkened gaze radiating menace. The two men hesitated, instinctively stepping back, allowing him to descend of his own accord.

"Have we won?" Belle asked, her voice filled with cautious hope as she stood beside Quinn with Mia.

"You shouldn’t be here," Quinn snapped, turning to her with a stern expression. "Vampires are cunning creatures, and he recognizes you. Your presence could give him leverage against us."

"I don’t care," Belle shot back, her tone firm. "I would rather be a burden than stand idly by."

Her defiance caught him off guard, and for a brief moment, the ever-composed Quinn seemed to falter.

"You may not care, but your husband does," Quinn countered firmly, cutting through Belle’s defiance. She opened her mouth to retort, but before she could, the guards escorting the vampire leader and his lackeys returned with their prisoners in tow.

"Do you think you have won?" The vampire sneered, his voice dripping with venom.

"I always win," Quinn replied coolly, stepping closer. "It’s you who can’t handle your failures, and that’s why you keep crawling back to me." His words struck a nerve, making the vampire’s fists clench in fury.

But something changed. The vampire’s anger melted into a sinister smile, and Quinn instantly knew something was amiss.

"Then deal with this!" The vampire leader spat. He took a step back, collapsing to the ground.

"Move away!" Quinn barked, but the warning came too late. The vampires began to contort and twist, their bodies undergoing a grotesque transformation that left everyone momentarily paralyzed in shock.

"How could they..." one of Quinn’s men whispered, his voice trailing off in disbelief as they watched the impossible unfold, the vampires were transforming into werewolves.

The vampire leader’s nails lengthened into sharp claws, muscles bulged grotesquely from his back, and his hind legs warped into a repulsive hybrid form. His face contorted, split between the features of a vampire and a wolf, resulting in a horrifying transformation.

The air was thick with tension as the vampire leader screamed in agony, completing his transformation into a hybrid, a vile fusion of vampire and werewolf. Quinn’s men snapped out of their stupor and instinctively stepped back, unnerved by the creature before them.

"A hybrid," Quinn muttered under his breath, his tone laced with disgust. He had dismissed the rumors of vampires crossbreeding with werewolves, but this abomination made it clear that the unthinkable was true. It must have taken an enormous amount of werewolf blood to achieve this horrific experiment.

Fully transformed, the vampire leader looked ugly. His body lacked the sleek fur of a true werewolf, and his face was a disgusting split, half wolf, half vampire. He howled weakly, a haunting sound that sent shivers through the crowd.

Quinn, undeterred, pulled off his shirt and tossed it aside, his eyes narrowing as he prepared to shift. Unlike the agonizing transformation of the hybrids, Quinn’s change was seamless, fluid. Within seconds, he stood in his wolf form, a testament to his pure bloodline and unmatched power.

His men followed his lead, their collective howls resonating with authority and dominance. Quinn’s cry of supremacy ignited rage in the hybrids, who snarled and lunged at him.

"We should leave," Mia urged, grabbing Belle’s wrist and attempting to pull her away.

"No, I can’t leave," Belle protested, her eyes fixed on Quinn and his men. Fear gnawed at her insides, but so did a deep frustration. She hated her helplessness. If only she could transform, if only she weren’t wolfless. Born of werewolf parents, it felt like a cruel twist of fate to lack the ability to defend herself or those she cared about.

Her mind wandered briefly to the stories of the first werewolves, the Lycans, who had torn each other apart to display dominance. Those times had passed, and werewolves now preferred staying in their human form rather than wolf. No one mocked her for being without a wolf except her family but it didn’t bother her.

The vampire leader lunged at Quinn, and the fight erupted in full force. Claws clashed against claws, teeth bared in a deadly dance of power and fury.

"They need backup," Belle muttered, trembling as she surveyed the chaos. "We need to find someone to help..." Her voice trailed off when she spotted a signal fire near the battlefield.

"I will light it," she declared, yanking her hand free from Mia’s grip.

"Belle, don’t!" Mia cried, but Belle was already moving, determination taking her toward the conflict.
