Chapter 132: Bracelet
Chapter 132: Bracelet
"We have to get going now, as we still have to get some things for the baby. I hope you two have a great time," Belle said, immediately regretting her choice of words at the end. She sounded jealous rather than genuinely happy for them.
"Since you are here, why not join us? The babysitter can hold the baby and wait with my entourage. I will show you around," Christabel suggested before Belle could turn away, causing her eyes to widen. That was the last thing she wanted.
"No, that’s fine. Lin has already shown me around. I shouldn’t burden you two," she replied with an awkward smile.
"No one called you a burden. She merely offered out of kindness. It is your decision to accept or not," Quinn finally spoke after remaining silent, causing Belle’s smile to falter. What a way to make her look bad in front of Christabel. If only she could punch that mouth of his ears but she knew better than to make mistakes in front of Christabel.
"Just come on," Christabel urged with a playful wink, leaving Belle with no choice but to comply.
"Alright," she agreed, moving closer to Lin and handing Ezekiel over to them.
"I am sorry..." she began, but Lin cut her off.
"It is fine. I never knew you were of such high standing. I should be the one apologizing for not honoring you properly," they said, causing Belle to smile awkwardly. And that was exactly why she avoided disclosing her identity, to prevent this uncomfortable distancing. Lin likely wouldn’t be as free with her anymore.
"It’s fine," she reassured before turning to face Christabel and Quinn, who had already begun walking away.
Sighing, she quickened her pace, falling into step behind them once she caught up. For the first ten minutes, the conversation revolved entirely around the war and strategy until Christabel finally remembered her presence.
"Forgive me, the war made me lose my manners. Is there any particular place you would like to see?" She inquired. But Belle knew nothing about the witches’ kingdom and had no specific destination in mind.
"How about you show me around? I have nothing in mind," she responded, earning a nod from Christabel.
"Okay then, you will have to stand by my side," Christabel said and, before Belle could protest, pulled her by the waist, placing her between them. Belle instinctively shifted slightly away from Quinn, but Christabel, who had other intentions, nudged her back, causing her to bump into his side.
"Ah! I am good," Belle quickly said, forcing a smile. She was anything but good, if anything, she wanted to leave as soon as possible.
"We have a bracelet that couples wear here to signify their lasting bond," Christabel suddenly shared. "We believe that as long as both still wear it, they will always find their way back to each other, no matter what."
Belle’s curiosity was piqued. She had only heard of such myths in books, but nothing like that existed in the werewolf kingdom.
"What if one of them loses theirs?" She inquired.
"It means he or she will die or is close to death," Christabel responded, then dragged Belle toward a stall.
"Here it is," she said, picking up a blue silk bracelet and handing it to Belle, who inspected the fabric intently. She wanted to see what was so special about the bracelet, but the more she examined it, the more ordinary it seemed.
"Sounds like a myth," she remarked, earning a smile from Christabel.
"Perhaps, but there was once a witch who fell in love with a stranger who saved her. She always believed in the power of the bracelet and carried one with her wherever she went. Unfortunately, she had to part with the stranger, but she gave him the other half of the bracelet, hoping they would meet again. As fate would have it..." Christabel suddenly paused, smiling when she noticed Belle’s keen interest in the tale. For someone who dismissed it as a myth, she was certainly contradicting her words.
"What happened?" Belle pressed, eager to know the story’s end.
"Well, if you want to know, buy a pair first," Christabel teased, causing Belle’s excitement to drop.
"I have no need for it," Belle replied, handing the silk bracelet back. She had no one she wished never to part from, and even if she did, she doubted the bracelet truly had the power to connect people. Besides, Hezekiah would always be king, there was no parting between them.
Chuckling, Christabel urged, "The future is uncertain, and if you still don’t want it, at least buy one as a keepsake of this kingdom." Picking up the bracelet, she took Belle’s hand and placed it in her palm.
"But..." Belle hesitated, staring down at the bracelet as if contemplating its significance.
"Belle, it is not about what you think; it is about what you feel," Christabel said, locking eyes with her. Belle’s breath hitched as she caught a faint blue glow in Christabel’s eyes, which vanished as quickly as it appeared.
"Do not read her future unless she wishes it," Quinn warned, breaking their gaze, causing Belle to frown. She could see the future? Well, of course, she was a witch! Some of them possessed that ability, so it was probably nothing unusual here.
"What did you see?" Unable to suppress her curiosity, Belle questioned.
"If I told you, it wouldn’t come true," Christabel replied with a knowing smile. "But there is a reason for everything. Do not deny yourself what you truly want." With that, she turned and began walking away, leaving Belle stunned.
Deny herself what she truly wanted? If only it were that simple, she wouldn’t be here in the first place.
Snapping out of her thoughts, she turned to the stall owner and asked, "How much is it?"
"Thirty silver coins," the stall owner responded, and she retrieved her purse to pay.
"Let’s go," Quinn said once she had finished, and they continued walking.
