Chapter 113: One more time
"He was never properly knocked out, he’s only pretending to be asleep." Still ignoring Quinn, Ray stated, earning a smirk from him.
"I was going to let him have a little fun. You are no fun at all," Quinn remarked, beginning to walk away. But he halted when Ray asked, "Do you need him?"
Quinn said nothing and simply continued walking and that was the response Ray needed.
"Wait! When did you find a mate? How? I can’t believe this!" Kay, still utterly clueless, moved closer to Ray, demanding answers.
"Kill him," Ray instructed.
The supposedly unconscious spy instantly sprang to life, making a desperate run for it. But he barely took two steps before a sword pierced through his chest, causing him to cough up blood.
Kay, who had thrown the sword, lowered his arm and stepped closer to Ray. "Have you two... mated?" He asked, only to be met with a cold glare that made him quickly avert his gaze.
"Tell anyone what you just heard and I will make you a eunuch." Ray’s tone was calm, yet lethal, before he turned and walked away.
Kay, who had been dying to spread the news, frowned, his plans completely ruined. How could a man like that even have a mate? No wonder Mia was always running from him. No wonder she didn’t find him attractive. He was truly ugly—both inside and out. How could someone be so indifferent?
Sighing, he approached the corpse of the spy and muttered, "A human." He shook his head at the stupidity of the vampires. They were now using humans to do their bidding? Cowards.

"Quit following me!" Mia hissed under her breath, frustration lacing her tone. She had done too much running for one day, and it wasn’t even evening yet. Leaning against a tree, she exhaled deeply, relieved that she had finally shaken him off. But as she glanced around, she realized she had strayed too far from their tents again.
"I can’t keep up with this. I need to stop running." Straightening up, she muttered to herself, only for an idea to suddenly strike her. "It’s not like I did anything wrong. And... he did kiss me back instead of pushing me away—well, the second time. So why am I the one running? I am not running again!" She declared aloud, smiling as she turned to leave—
Only for her gaze to meet those cold, piercing eyes.
Before she could react, Ray saw through her next move and swiftly covered her mouth, backing her against the tree.
"Stay still if you don’t want me to break your arm," he warned, his voice low and firm.
Mia scowled against his palm, struggling against his grasp, but he held her down securely, leaving no space for escape.
"I will let you go once you are ready to talk." His tone was patient yet unyielding.
Realizing that resistance was futile, she decided to play along, biding her time until he let his guard down. He might think he was smart, but she would show him who was smarter.
Slowly, she stopped struggling and stood still, waiting.
True to his word, he gradually loosened his grip, finally withdrawing his hand from her mouth.
The moment he let go, Mia counted three more seconds in her mind then bolted.
But Ray had anticipated her move, as though he could read her mind. Before she could get far, he dragged her back, and in one swift motion, he brought them both to the ground. Pinning her hands down, he tightened his legs around her thighs, rendering her completely helpless.
"You promised to let go!" She yelled, her anger flaring.
"If you were ready to talk," he countered, making her roll her eyes in irritation.
"Say what you have to say. I have nothing to discuss with you," she snapped, finally giving up and looking away.
"Why don’t you want us to complete the rejection?" He suddenly inquired, catching her off guard.
Parting her lips in shock, she then burst into laughter. "You think I don’t want to reject you?" And asked, finding his words absurd. If anyone wanted this rejection finalized, it was her. She had suggested it first! What was he even talking about?
"Then why do you keep running away?" His gaze remained unreadable, but something about his expression struck her as oddly childlike.
She started, "You are really cute... I mean dumb." She quickly corrected herself, realizing what she had just said.
"You thought I was running away because I didn’t want to complete the rejection?"
"Then why are you running? Making it obvious to everyone that something is going on between us?" He pressed further, genuinely confused. He had been willing to let it go, but at this rate, everyone would figure out they were mates and that was the last thing he wanted. Up until now, he had assumed she was avoiding him because she secretly didn’t want to go through with the rejection, using his interest in her as an excuse.
"You are the one who keeps following me around! That’s why I have been running," she retorted, clicking her tongue at his cluelessness. She had misjudged him, he wasn’t nearly as intelligent as she had initially thought. No, he was just dense, like a child. Another reason to keep her distance. She preferred her men to be smart.
"I am only following you because you keep running," he stated plainly.
Mia groaned in frustration. They were going in circles.
"Anyway, we both know neither of us is interested, so let’s just finish this..." Her voice trailed off, her breath hitching when his hand, which had been holding her down, grazed over the bare skin of her arm.
She had purposely worn a sleeveless top to avoid being a burden in battle, but now it seemed like her worst mistake.
"Stop doing that," she murmured, forcing herself to ignore the way his touch burned against her skin.
Unbeknownst to her, Ray was also losing control, his movements no longer entirely his own.
"Just one more time...and we would end this damned rejection," she suddenly blurted, unable to hold back any longer.
Freeing her right hand from his now-weak grasp, she grabbed him by the shirt and pulled him down, seizing his lips in a kiss.
But before she could deepen it, Ray lost control entirely. In a swift motion, he rolled them over, making them land on their sides. His hold on her shifted, his arm now wrapped firmly around her neck as he took control.
