Chapter 41 Reconciliation
Chapter 41: Chapter 41 Reconciliation
Ring ring ring, the fourth class ends.
Jiang Nian, who skipped an entire class under the guise of a made-up excuse, walked out from the empty cafeteria with a satisfied face, patting his stomach, and went against the crowd rushing for meals in the sunlight.
The golden sun shone through the thick branches and leaves of the tall green tree, casting mottled shadows on the ping-pong table.
He walked past it, squinting slightly as he looked up. He couldn’t figure out why Lao Liu was so intent on Yu Tongjie, but at least he managed to secure something.
The right to take one or two days off from evening self-study per week.
Although there were many restrictions, like needing to report in advance and taking photos to clock in, it wasn’t a problem for Jiang Nian.
Anyway, it was uncertain if Yu Tongjie could pass the big exam at the end of the month; getting away with one leave request was worth it, and enjoying a second of comfort was a second well-spent.
In the blink of an eye, it was evening. After three sessions of evening self-study, Jiang Nian grabbed his bag and took out his phone to leave. Blending into the crowd, he went downstairs without stopping, even when passing the third floor.
Xu Qianqian stood in the corridor outside the classroom, watching the familiar back of his head slowly disappear into the night crowd below.
She took out her phone, wanting to ask him something.
Suddenly realizing she had left early yesterday and didn’t seem to explain it to him, she didn’t know how to start.
The habit of going home together seemed to have only been maintained for two weeks.
They had never done this before, and she abandoned it first, then... well, nothing happened after that. She should have explained yesterday; would things return to normal today?
Xu Qianqian, with a heavy heart and her schoolbag on her back, went downstairs and put on her earphones.
The noise momentarily stayed away from her, leaving only the cycle of "Cicada Green" album in her ears. By the time the first song finished, she had already exited the school gate.
By the third or fourth song, her Bluetooth earphones were suddenly taken away.
"Come over and pay for this for me."
Amidst the flickering streetlights of Zhennan Street, they had clearly just passed a small store, and the familiar yet annoying voice rang out beside her.
Xu Qianqian was startled and turned her head to look.
Jiang Nian held a bottle of iced cola from a large freezer, with cool vapor rising from it. His face looked somewhat mischievously smug but annoyingly handsome under the lights.
Didn’t go far, huh?
She moved her mouth, "Don’t you have any money yourself!"
Jiang Nian snapped his fingers, "Such private matters and you found out; you must be sleeping with my bank card under your pillow at night?"
"Call me dad." Xu Qianqian unwillingly scanned the code with a beep, her mouth twitching into a smile.
After paying the fee for mending the friendship, the two naturally walked together.
The Bluetooth earphones turned from two to one, with the other hanging in Jiang Nian’s ear. There was no sense in returning what was grabbed, just like the free cola.
With a pop, the cola was opened.
Under the dim streetlights, the two walked side by side, with their schoolbags on their backs and a two-fist distance between them.
Just about to take a sip, Jiang Nian suddenly asked, "Can you drink cold stuff today?"
"Less nosy about women’s matters."
"Where is your mind wandering to; I never planned to sneakily remember your safe period, or plot it out continuously—only perverts do that."
Xu Qianqian turned her head, shocked, "Jiang Nian, have you no shame!"
"God damn, you sell human organs too? The audacity."
Xu Qianqian was speechless with him. Getting involved with Jiang Nian just led to a whirlwind of anger and rage—it was clear he hadn’t been disciplined enough as a child.
After a moment of silence, she carefully spoke up.
"Didn’t you leave early today?"
"Because I found an impressive tree branch on the road, I forgot to show it to you." Jiang Nian took out a smooth branch from his open backpack, making Xu Qianqian’s eyelids twitch.
"What’s so special about it?" She was speechless, and her heart secretly felt a bit disappointed.
Jiang Nian sneered, spitting out two words, "Straight and sleek."
Back home.
Xu Qianqian was taking a shower, reaching for her phone in its waterproof bag. The steam-filled bathroom reflected her curvy, snow-white figure, her small face slightly flushed.
"?"
Jiang Nian: "?"
Xu Qianqian: "My phone ran out of battery and shut down yesterday."
Edited it, then deleted it.
What relationship does this have with leaving without saying goodbye? He probably felt the same yesterday, didn’t he?
"I think early romance hampers studies."
Deleted.
No, that’s not right; it never happened that way. It was barely at an explosive level where a single look could lead to pregnancy, just her inner psyche acting up, of course, she had no feelings for him.
After all, it was Jiang Nian being talked about here—being with him would certainly be mentally exhausting to the point of shortening her life.
"I think your crush on me hampers your dad’s studies, so I left early yesterday, sorry."
With a swish, she sent it over.
Opposite door, Jiang Family.
"Damn." Jiang Nian jumped up from his bed, grabbed his phone, and quickly replied, "Okay okay, great script, I’ll steal it."
The two went back and forth chatting until midnight.
The conversation was unremarkable and lacking substance, with the aggressiveness fluctuating, yet there was a tacit understanding kept within range.
At the end, Xu Qianqian sent a message.
"Tomorrow after school, don’t leave, wait for me at the classroom door."
She originally wanted to say she’d give him a brick, but Jiang Nian replied with an okay, so she couldn’t say it.
Lying on the bed, she stared at the pitch-dark ceiling in a daze.
The next day.
During the morning reading session, Ma Guojun left his seat and adjusted his glasses as he walked in front of Jiang Nian.
"Oh my, it’s really damn straight, where did you swipe it from?"
The boys in the surrounding seats were making comments on the straight branch, as if they were appreciating the courtesan in Jiangnan—those breasts, that waist, those legs—a top-grade beauty.
"Found it on the road, isn’t it awesome." Jiang Nian basked in the glory as if crowned as royalty.
"Damn, there’s no way to critique, I’m just a student, gift it to me." Li Hua couldn’t get enough of the branch, "This smoothness level, did you lick it last night, Jiang Nian?"
"It’s purely wild, I haven’t touched it, I swear it." he said.
"Fine fine, celestial artifact." Li Hua’s eyes shone brightly, as famished as if he hadn’t seen a woman in twenty years, "If I had this sword, no stray dogs within ten miles."
The boys from the neighboring group also came over, "Let me touch it, that’s just unbeatable."
The boys from group one lost focus on the morning reading session, all left their seats to join the fun; those who came later couldn’t squeeze into the inner circle, so they had to peek through gaps.
"So long and straight, its value is maxed out."
A group shouted loudly, Zhang Ningzhi, from the front seat, sneakily turned his head back to take a look. His eyes showed confusion, it’s just a branch, why act like a group of monkeys.
The excitement peaked, as the English teacher Qianbao sternly walked in.
A minute later, as Qianbao made rounds in the classroom, she had a straight and smooth branch in her hand. Everywhere she passed, there were envious glances from the boys.
Qianbao had a bright idea and went to inspect the neighboring class.
Listening to the exclamations of the boys in the neighboring class, Li Hua and Jiang Nian were heartbroken, pounding their desks, and stomping their feet.
"Damn it, the betrayal wound will never heal, this is enmity for stealing someone’s wife!"
