Chapter 325: Chapter 325: How Can Someone Who’s Mixed into the Underworld Be So Arrogant? “Of course,” Wang Hao put his arm around his shoulder, “we’re not strangers, let me tell you, my friends helped Brother Da Wei collect debts today, over a million in debts, all settled! And you bring out a 1888 wine as a gift? Right?”
“Indeed,” Yue Peng understood right away that this was a big deal and one shouldn’t embarrass oneself, he immediately ran back: “Brother Hao, wait up, I’ll fetch the wine!”
“Brother Hao~~” As soon as Wang Hao opened his mouth, it was four royal salutes, Little Meng almost wished she could cling to Wang Hao: “Can I get your number, so we can keep in touch more often…”
“No worries, that’s not a problem,” Wang Hao took out his phone, and they exchanged numbers. Wang Hao smiled, “Next time I have friends over for drinks, I’ll bring them here to support your business, okay?”
“Is it just business you’re looking after?” Little Meng protested, “Take me with you…”
“No way!” Wang Hao immediately broke into a sweat, shaking his head as if it was a rattle drum: “One thing at a time; I have no problem boosting your business, but taking you along is a moral issue, I have a girlfriend!”
Little Meng asked, “Am I prettier than her?”
Damn, it’s like comparing the sun and the moon, okay?
“You are a tiny bit prettier,” Wang Hao quickly interrupted her: “You just need to focus on your task today, got it?”
“Alright,” Little Meng looked disappointed, pouting: “I’ll ensure the task is completed, okay boss?”
They were just chatting when suddenly, there was a woman’s cry of ‘ouch’ from the bar area, followed by the sound of a bottle hitting the ground and shattering. Then the woman who had screamed yelled, “Are you blind?! How do you walk?! Where’s your boss?!”
Holy shit, what’s going on?
Curious, Wang Hao looked over and instantly got angry!
It turned out to be Yue Peng! He stood there, his face showing he had no clue what to do, surrounded by a group of tough-looking men, each more burly and grim-faced than the last. The leader, with a half-inch crew cut and a pinky-thick gold chain around his neck and a tattoo of an Azure Dragon on his arm, smirked at Yue Peng. The woman in Green Dragon Man’s arms shrieked, “How do you walk?! You almost made me fall! Where’s your boss? Call him out now!”
Holy shit, what does this mean?
Seeing this, Wang Hao immediately stood up, and just then, Brother Da Wei also sensed something was wrong and asked, “Is there a problem?”
“Yeah, my classmate might be in some trouble,” Wang Hao told Brother Da Wei to stay seated: “Brother Da Wei, sit tight, I’ll go check it out.” With that, he stepped down from the platform, and Little Meng also quickly got up, “Brother Hao, let me come with you. I’m more familiar with the people here; I may not be much help in a big way, but if they are regulars, at least I can figure out who they are.”
“Okay,” Wang Hao nodded, “I want to see what they’re up to.”
The two walked up, and from a distance, they could hear the woman shouting: “Where’s your boss? Hurry up! How do they teach you to walk here?!”
With all the commotion, everyone in the bar had gathered around, and the waitstaff pointed from a distance–
“Da Peng is in trouble now, he bumped into Brother Dao and even spilled the drinks!”
“Yes, that’s almost an eleven-thousand-dollar-per-bottle royal salute, he can’t afford that!”
“Oh man, he was already on edge these past few days, and now trouble really comes in pairs!”
Hearing that Yue Peng had bumped into Brother Dao, Little Meng’s face changed color immediately. She pulled Wang Hao back a few steps, “Brother Hao, this might be tough today. Brother Dao is a well-known figure in the underworld here; everyone respects him, and he’s not someone to mess with!”
“Someone involved in the underworld being so arrogant?” Wang Hao frowned, “Not even considering the bar owner?”
In Wang Hao’s mind, anyone who owned a bar in a place like Zhonghai was not usually an ordinary person; if even a small thug couldn’t be handled, they might as well close up shop.
“It’s not just him, the key issue is that he’s backed by Mr. Tan–he’s a big shot with influence in both the underworld and the legitimate world, highly respected. Even the bar owner can’t afford to offend him!” Little Meng hurriedly said, “Brother Hao, I suggest you’d better lose some money to avoid disaster. Brother Dao is really not someone you can mess with, and he’s unpredictable, switching face at any moment!”
Hearing Little Meng’s tone, Wang Hao knew he held deep concerns about this Brother Dao. Wang Hao nodded and said, “Yue Peng is my brother, and I will definitely stand up for him. But it’s different for you; stay away from me for now, don’t let them see you and end up looking for trouble with you later.”
“Brother Hao, thank… thank you!” Little Meng’s voice changed, “To think of me at a time like this…”
“It’s really nothing to do with you,” Wang Hao smiled, “Go on, later have a good drink with me, Let me first see what’s going on.”
Little Meng nodded vigorously, “Okay!” Though she agreed, she only moved back a few steps to distance herself from Wang Hao, unable to bear leaving.
At that moment, the bar owner came over with two bouncers, while walking he said, “Eh, Brother Dao! What’s the problem here? Don’t be angry, let’s sit down and talk it over slowly!”
“Not angry?” Brother Dao snapped, “This guy isn’t watching where he’s going, bumped into my woman, what do you think should be done!”
“Ah? That happened?” The bar owner turned back and scolded Da Peng, “Da Peng, can’t you do anything right?! Blind, are you?! This is Brother Dao; aren’t you in a hurry to apologize?” Then turning his head, he said to Brother Dao with a forced smile, “Brother Dao, we’ve known each other for a long time, this kid is new, from a poor family, don’t make it hard for him, please give me face, okay?”
“Ptui, he’s a bloody jinx,” Brother Dao with folded arms snorted, “Today I’m giving you face, make it quick!”
The bar owner meant well, after all, Brother Dao was not someone to be offended lightly; he figured an apology would settle the matter.
But to Yue Peng’s contrary, one apology meant admitting fault first. Then compensation for the bottle of Royal Salute whisky, almost costing $10,000 a bottle, was unavoidable. Although Wang Hao might not care, Yue Peng felt guilty–Wang Hao had wanted four bottles of Royal Salute, now they were one short; if there wasn’t enough drink later, it would be Wang Hao shelling out for more!
So he looked miserable, muttering quietly, “I was bringing a bottle to my brother when they came in from behind, bumped into me, and the bottle smashed…”
“Are you fucking stupid, kid?” the bar owner kept making urgent eye signals at Yue Peng, “It’s only a bottle of drink, how much can it be worth?”
Yue Peng was nearly in tears, “It’s Royal Salute…”
“What?!” The bar owner was also stunned.
This was a tough situation! The bar owner, though blunt, wasn’t extremely cold-hearted, and he knew that if Yue Peng apologized, by rules, Yue Peng would have to pay for the whisky, which was equivalent to three months of his wages!
But if Yue Peng didn’t apologize, it would be difficult to resolve the issue with Brother Dao. After all, he knew precisely what sort of person Brother Dao was.
Caught between a subordinate waiter and a well-known thug in the underworld, he was in a tight spot.
And the most critical point was, from where Yue Peng and Brother Dao were standing, the bar owner knew it must’ve been Brother Dao’s people who rear-ended Yue Peng!
“Brother Dao,” the bar owner clenched his teeth, then turned and looked at Brother Dao, “Whatever you say, this kid is still my subordinate. Seeing that today’s situation isn’t going to end well–suddenly, the dozens of bouncers in the bar all surrounded them!
“Yo, Mr. Deng, did you take the wrong pills today?!” Seeing the bouncers, Brother Dao immediately got angry, “Do you believe I’ll call Master Four over to smash your place?!”
“Brother Dao, there’s nothing I can do,” the bar owner shook his head helplessly, “The kid broke a bottle of Royal Salute worth 8888. He can’t afford it, and it’s really not his fault. If I back down today, I won’t be able to run this place anymore. Let’s be fair: you pay for the whisky, and another day I’ll visit Master Four and apologize over tea, how about that?”
Boss Deng was also left without a choice; he still wanted to run his business, and today he couldn’t just capitulate. Otherwise, if even the waiters didn’t feel protected, who would want to work for him?
