Chapter 301 - Chapter 301 301Chapter Dragon Ball
Chapter 301: 301Chapter Dragon Ball Chapter 301: 301Chapter Dragon Ball Wei Ningze exclaimed excitedly, “Once we finish drawing this issue of Conan, we can head off! There are quite a few hot copyrights this time, like the comic adaptation rights for the hugely popular ‘Domestic Agent’ we saw recently, and some novel rights brought by the senior executives of the Chengyun Chinese website. It’s definitely worth checking out!”
Wang Hao: “…”
Wang Hao, feeling dejected, said, “I thought there would be something fresh, but it’s all this messy stuff again, sigh…” Oh well, since it’s in Zhonghai, I might as well join in the fun…
“Messy?!” Initially, Wang Hao didn’t take it seriously, but Wei Ningze almost jumped up when he heard this, “Dude, have you not been online recently?! Do you know how popular ‘Domestic Agent’ is? It’s got almost seven hundred million hits online! Seven hundred million, man! That’s the strongest web series in history!”
Wang Hao: “…”
Could I not know? I’m the one who crafted that script…
It was finally Lin Xiaoyun who couldn’t stand it anymore, and she said with some awkward embarrassment, “Well… um… Chief Editor Wei, please, don’t get too worked up, let’s talk this through calmly…”
“How could I not be worked up!” Wei Ningze was more than just excited, he was thrilled, “This time, we’re discussing buying the rights to adapt ‘Domestic Agent’ into a comic, my goodness…”
Wang Hao: “If you like it, just sell it to you then…”
“Sell it to me…” Wei Ningze leaped up again, “How could you just sell it to me, wait, what? Sell it to me?”
“Well…” Lin Xiaoyun finally spoke again, “My brother, he’s the screenwriter for ‘Domestic Agent,’ I didn’t get the chance to mention it before…”
“Gasp–!!!”
Hearing this, both Wei Ningze and Li Wenfeng took a sharp intake of breath!
“Chairman Wang! Oh, look at me…” Wei Ningze was sweating bullets, “If I had known it was you, why would I have gotten so worked up…”
Wang Hao shrugged nonchalantly, “It’s nothing, I’m used to it by now…”
Wei Ningze and Li Wenfeng were practically floating on air.
Both were quite certain that with ‘Detective Conan’ and the backing of ‘Domestic Agent’ screenwriter Wang Hao, the sales for his magazine ‘Comics World’ could definitely jump up a few percentage points!
…
Inside the largest office of Golden Cloud Animation Technology Company.
“Chairman Wang, do you think the characters I’ve drawn here look alright?” The artist Zhang Zhengyang was showing Wang Hao some character design sketches he had drawn.
At that moment, the character in the drawing looked very appealing, lifelike, and most importantly, very eye-catching.
“Yes, not bad, let’s go with this,” Wang Hao was very satisfied with his work. Drinking coffee and with air-conditioning blowing, he commented, “This character looks good, let’s use this.” He flipped some more, “Overall, very nice, let’s go with this style!”
“Got it! I’ll get to work then!” Zhang Zhengyang seemed like a completely different person, his work enthusiasm almost rivaling that of a zealot!
He felt as if he had been possessed by the spirit of a divine artist, every stroke was inspired!
“Chairman Wang, what do you think about this plot idea I came up with, is it okay?” Zhang Zhengyang had just left when the script editor Zhao Fei rushed over, holding in his hands a few sheets of A4 paper covered in dense text!
“Let me see…” Wang Hao carefully reviewed it, nodding continuously, “That’s more like it, this kind of murder method works, the previous stuff was what, a mess, haha! No problem now!”
“Great!” Zhao Fei was thrilled, “Chairman, I haven’t smoked all afternoon, the inspiration is just exploding! I’ll write some more!”
It was already six-thirty in the afternoon, the end of the workday was in sight, but none of the company employees seemed the least bit keen on leaving! They were all diligently working!
A line of people waited in queue for Chairman Wang’s review and commentary, very solemn and earnest, afraid of doing a poor job and angering him!
“Ah, now that’s more like it…” After sending everyone off, Wang Hao lay on the couch, sighed in satisfaction.
Today, the inspiration was bursting!
With a brush in hand and a piece of paper, Wang Hao doodled, and just like that, he sketched an old man who was boxing!
“Damn, am I this awesome now?”
Wang Hao stroked his chin, then casually drew a turtle shell on the old man’s back!
“Hehe!”
An old man with a turtle shell on his back, no need to ask, it was obviously Turtle Immortal.
This proves that the toughest part is always getting started. Wang Hao casually drawing a Turtle Immortal was like a beginning. Suddenly, inspiration erupted, and he quickly sketched out more than a dozen pages of draft! His drawing style was incredibly simple, using just a few lines to depict individuals or scenes.
Ah, to think back to the days when he used to read comics and always wondered when he could draw himself; now, that wish had finally come true!
He was deeply engrossed in his drawing when suddenly there was a knock on the door.
“Chairman Wang, may I come in?” Feng Bo’s voice trembled from outside, “We also want to draw comics, but… but we can’t find a way in right now…”
You could tell his heart was sinking, as his voice was shaking while he spoke.
“Come in,” Wang Hao didn’t even lift his head and continued sketching–oh HOHOHOHO, got the first Dragon Ball, oh mighty dragon, wait for me, I’m about to summon you!
Feng Bo and five others entered, each looking like a guilty primary school student standing beside Wang Hao, cautiously pleading, “Chairman Wang, please assign us something to do; everyone else is busy, and just watching from the side is really nerve-wracking…”
“Oh…” Wang Hao looked up, asking, “So the company atmosphere is heating up, and you guys feel uneasy just standing around?”
“Yes, yes,” Feng Bo and the others vigorously nodded, “We’re really feeling uneasy!”
“That’s easy,” Wang Hao pulled them over and showed them his draft, “Take a look at my drawing style and see if you can emulate it.”
Feng Bo and the others glanced at it. Wang Hao’s heroes, though simply drawn, were vividly expressive. Their eyes widened in admiration, “Chairman Wang, who would’ve thought! You’ve been hiding your skills. Though the character looks simple, both their movement and expression are incredibly rich, truly masterful!”
“Quit buttering me up,” Wang Hao chuckled, “Come on, you guys draw a new series. I plan to call it Dragon Ball. It’s about finding seven dragon balls to summon the dragon and grant a wish, hehe.”
“Alright!” As long as there was work to do, they dare not be picky, nodding eagerly, “Chairman Wang, just tell us how to draw, we’re all ears!”
“Alright, let me explain the plot briefly,” Wang Hao began to narrate.
The early narrative of Dragon Ball was more inclined towards fantasy, comedy, and adventure, decidedly simpler than the investigative plots like Detective Conan, so while Wang Hao narrated, they sketched alongside.
Wang Hao’s wasn’t picky about the graphic quality as he was just passing time anyway.
Thus, in just about two days, the most exciting initial Earth saga of Dragon Ball was completed…
“Chairman Wang, your storyline is genius!” Exclaimed Feng Bo as he gazed at the several hundred pages of simple drafts, “This Turtle Style Kung Fu is amazing! Turtle Immortal is so amusing, hahaha!”
“This series is definitely going to be a hit! It’s on par with Conan!”
“Chairman Wang, no, no, no, it should be Master Wang, how did you come up with such an exciting plot?!”
Feng Bo and the others were so excited they were practically flying! This Dragon Ball was fantastic! Although the characters were currently drawn very simply, and one might even say crudely, given the current plot, it could definitely compete with Detective Conan drawn by others!
“Don’t state the obvious,” Wang Hao smirked, “Could my creations ever be subpar? But speaking of which, since Conan is already serialized in Comics World, what should we do with this book?”
This was Dragon Ball after all, a defining representative of Japanese manga from a past life, carrying countless childhood memories. Since its inception, it had maintained immense popularity, and this classic had even become a symbol of Japanese manga.
Now that it was revived under Wang Hao’s pen, it would be such a waste to just let it collect dust in the office.
But the problem was, the book was great, but where to publish it…
