Chapter 84: The Search For Lucas.
"Are you guys blind? Did you not see the bloodstain on Mr. Philip’s shirt collar?" Olive said, her voice barely above a whisper as tears continued to fall. Mark and Aiden turned to look at Mr. Philip, who was talking to an officer, and indeed, there was a bloodstain on his shirt collar.
Mark and Aiden’s eyes widened in shock, and they even tried closing and opening them, rubbing to confirm they weren’t seeing things.
"That’s not Lucas’s blood. Probably Mr. Philip killed an animal, and the blood got on his shirt," Aiden said, trying to calm his fearful heart. But his expression soon turned somber and fearful. "Is Lucas dead? Did Mr. Philip really kill Lucas?" he added with a shaky voice.
"He’s not. The bloodstain on Mr. Philip’s collar doesn’t mean Lucas is dead. He can’t possibly kill Lucas," Mark interjected, trying to calm his fearful heart, even though his expression betrayed him.
"Don’t even say that. That monster is capable of anything," Olive interjected, her voice etched with seriousness. "Mr. Philip would do anything as long as his secret remained hidden."
The group was consumed by a sense of fear, their minds filled with the worst-case scenarios. Could Mr. Philip really harm Lucas? Was Lucas already dead? What if they couldn’t save him?
"Alright, students, we need to keep moving," an officer announced, leading the way towards the abandoned axis. The students responded with a collective "yes" and continued on their path.
Olive, Mark, and Aiden couldn’t tear their eyes away from Mr. Philip. He had been in deep conversation with the police officers since he joined the search, raising suspicions in their minds.
"I’m sure Mr. Philip is the one who suggested we move forward. Did he know about the George abandoned house hence the reason why he suggested we move forward because moving forward would definitely lead us to the abandoned house ? Did Lucas tell him ?" Aiden pondered, his expression filled with concern. "I’m going crazy now."
"You can’t be going crazy as me." Mr Philip is up to something, but we need to keep moving to find out," Mark added, prompting Olive and Aiden to nod in agreement as they quickened their pace.
After a few minutes of walking, the group was led by the police officers and teachers into the hidden axis where the George family’s abandoned house stood.
As they delved deeper into the abandoned axis, Olive, Mark, and Aiden couldn’t shake off the sense of unease. Mr. Philip’s eagerness to explore the area seemed suspicious, and the bloodstain on his collar only heightened their suspicions.
As they rounded a corner, they came across the burnt house with smoke still rising from it.
"Isn’t this one of the George family properties? Did it burn down overnight? Why?" Mr. Philip asked, his voice filled with shock as he approached the house.
Olive smirked. "So Mr. Philip knows about the house too? I thought only members of the George family were aware of it."
"I’m just as confused as you are because Lucas mentioned that only the George family and close friends knew about this property. Despite the cemetery nearby, most people are unaware of this entrance, only knowing the direct path to the cemetery. I suppose Lucas must have informed Mr. Philip about everything. It seems like a plan to lead Mr. Philip back to Lucas if he wants to return. Lucas is definitely kidnapped," Aiden explained with a heavy sigh.
"Kidnapped? Oh no! So Mr. Philip deliberately brought the police here so that when they discover the body, he can accuse Lucas of Henry’s murder, explaining why Lucas isn’t with us on this search." Olive said with a serious expression.
"The police will likely go to the George mansion to arrest Lucas, but when they don’t find him, they’ll assume he fled. Meanwhile, Mr. Philip will use the opportunity to search for Henry’s phone. If he doesn’t find it, he’ll return to confront Lucas, giving us a chance to follow him and rescue Lucas before it’s too late," Olive concluded, nodding in understanding.
"What a master planner he is but he isn’t that smart afterall." Mark chimed in with a smirk. " Let’s go along with it, as long as his actions lead us to where Lucas is, then it’s okay."
"How do you know it’s one of the George family mansions?" One of the officers asked with a raised eyebrow.
"I’ve been friends with the George family for over thirty years now, so I know about some of their properties." Mr. Philip replied with a heavy sigh. "But who burnt down this house? This is a criminal act and needs to be investigated, officers. I’m not supposed to say this, but this house belongs to Lucas’s sister. It was meant to be a birthday present for her sixteenth birthday, but since she died, this house has been abandoned and only Lucas comes here when he feels down."
"That monster." Olive gritted her teeth in anger, her voice barely above a whisper but loud enough for Mark and Aiden to hear.
The police officer could only heave a heavy sigh before giving some signals to other officers, who understood and went inside the house.
"Let the rest of us continue searching for Henry. The officer voiced out and just as he was about to move forward, he saw Henry’s uniform name tag, which made him stop walking immediately.
"Oh my goodness! How did his name tag end up here?" Mr. Philip exclaimed in shock as he quickly snatched the name tag from the police officer. "This is definitely the student we’ve been searching for."
Without hesitation, the officers entered the burned house while some teachers and students continue searching the surrounding areas outside.
As planned the previous night, Olive, Mark, Aiden, Lucas, and Henry had arranged everything and placed the body, coated with a substance to delay burning, in the center of the room.
Inside the house, the police found the body along with burnt clothing and wristwatches.
The officers removed the body from the house, but it was unrecognizable due to the extent of the burns.
The mood grew somber as teachers and students witnessed the scene, with some students breaking down in tears at the sight of the corpse.
"Could this be Henry? We found his name tag and other school items from Belmont here." Mr. Philip questioned, his expression filled with disbelief as he looked at the police. "Who could have harmed this innocent boy?"
" You mentioned that Lucas frequents this place, correct?" One of the officers inquired, his tone serious and his eyebrows furrowed with curiosity.
"Yes!" Mr. Philip confirmed. "He told me about it once."
"We need to investigate Lucas, all members of the George family." The officer said with seriousness. " Although this corpse couldn’t be recognized, it is still going under autopsy. And the fact that we found Henry’s belongings here..."
" Sir? I found this." An officer came running forward with another name tag. "It belongs to Lucas. Even though the name tag is almost burnt, I can still read some words."
" Oh my goodness! Did Lucas kill Henry then? Considering his history of animosity towards scholarship students. Does that mean his promise to cancel the red card system and stop bullying scholarship students was just a facade? He finally killed Henry." Mr. Philip exclaimed.
"Where’s Lucas exactly?" One of the officers asked, scanning around trying to catch sight of Lucas.
"He didn’t join in the search. Did he flee after committing this heinous crime?" Mr. Philip asked, his gaze soon falling on Olive, Mark, and Aiden. "You three are the 3RM. Where did Lucas tell you he was going?"
" That scoundrel!" Mark murmured under his breath before replying. "He didn’t tell us, Mr. Philip. But our friend would never kill Henry."
" Calm down, kids. We’re not saying your friend killed Henry. In fact, this corpse isn’t confirmed to be Henry yet as it is unrecognizable. But your friend must be interrogated. All members of the George family must be interrogated." One of the officers chimed in, his voice contrasting with Mr. Philip’s accusatory tone.
"But you’re already treating him as a criminal just because Mr. Philip said Lucas comes here regularly?" Olive chimed in, her body tensed with anger.
"Of course, Lucas comes here regularly, but you wouldn’t know since you weren’t here when Lucas’s sister died. Mark and Aiden know that what I’m saying is true. Besides, the police officers didn’t label your friend as a criminal until proven guilty." Mr. Philip interjected with a smile, which only irritated the group.
" And you can’t blame me for expressing my shock that Lucas killed Henry. I’m just saying what came to my mind at that moment, but that doesn’t mean your friend is a criminal if he hasn’t been proven guilty yet." Mr Philip added.
" Officers! We need to find Lucas and bring him to the station." One of the officers said, while the others agreed. "Let’s take you students back to school, but that doesn’t mean you’re all free. All of you will be interrogated, but for now, Lucas is the prime suspect."
