Disguised As A Boy To Attend Belmont High School -
Chapter 65: The Desperate Search
Chapter 65: The Desperate Search
The night was dark and moonless, ideal for a covert operation. The group of seven assembled at the agreed meeting spot, their faces lit only by the dim glow of their phones. They had all managed to sneak out of their dorms without being caught, eager to begin their investigation.
"Let’s move," Lucas whispered, scanning the area with his eyes. "Time is of the essence."
"We’ll need to climb the fence to avoid detection by the security," Mark stated seriously.
Aiden chuckled lightly. "I’ve become quite the climber. I’m getting good at this fence climbing business," he joked, but his humor fell flat with the others, who gave him disapproving looks.
Realizing his mistake, Aiden quickly apologized. "Sorry!"
"Let’s keep moving so we can make it back to school on time," Lucas reiterated, his expression serious.
The group nodded in agreement and made their way to the rear of the school building, where they each climbed the fence one by one. As they climbed the fence, the metal creaked and groaned beneath their weight, the sound echoing through the night.
"Be careful!" Mark cautioned, his voice barely above a whisper.
Samson’s foot slipped the moment the reached the fence top, about to get down from the other side only for him to land with a soft thud on the grass, his ankle twisting painfully.
"Arrrgh!" he exclaimed, his voice muffled by the grass.
"Keep your mouth shut or I’ll shut it for you," Aiden whispered, his fist clenched tightly. "Do you want security to notice us?"
"You’re a good climber, but I’m not," Samson said, his face showing pain.
The others could only shake their heads in frustration, their faces pale in the dim light. Lucas’s car was parked just outside the school gate, its engine purring softly as they approached.
As they drove to the arena, the only sound was the soft hum of the engine and the creak of the leather seats beneath them. The arena loomed before them, its walls casting long shadows in the faint light.
The car then pulled off at the back of the building and the teenagers stepped out.
They moved quickly and quietly, their footsteps muffled by the grass. They reached the back of the fence.
"Are we climbing the fence again?" Samson asked nervously. "I just sprained my ankle."
"If we don’t climb the fence, do you expect us to walk through the door and get caught by the police?" Mark retorted, his hands on his waist in frustration.
"If you can’t climb the fence, you might as well go back to school," Lucas said sternly, turning his gaze back to the group. "The swimming pool is just behind the arena, so once we climb the fence, we’ll be at the pool."
"Great! Now let’s go in and gather the evidence to bring down the person who killed Desmond," Henry declared with determination, as the others nodded in agreement and began climbing over the fence one by one, their bodies tense with anticipation. The pool area was dimly lit, the only sound the soft lapping of the water against the sides.
Thomas had to carry Samson on his shoulders, while Lucas helped him down from the fence before Thomas could climb over as well. Finally, they all stood before the pool.
The pool looked exactly the same as when they had found Desmond’s body in it, except this time Desmond’s body was no longer there.
"Let’s start the investigation now," Lucas commanded, and the group immediately got to work. Henry, Mark, and Thomas entered the pool to search for clues, while Olive, Lucas, and Aiden searched the surrounding area. Their flashlights were the only source of light, and Samson sat on a chair, anxiously waiting for Thomas to find his wristwatch.
After several minutes of searching, the group had not found any evidence.
"Are we going to search all night?" Henry asked, sitting on the pool floor with only his head above water, looking dejected. "The police officers may have taken all the evidence with them."
"That’s correct. We haven’t found any clues yet. We could have just waited for the police officers. Are we hoping to catch the criminal at the crime scene like we did when Samuel died?" Mark scoffed.
"Should we go back to school then. Since we didn’t discover anything, we might as well return to school." Olive added, leaning against the wall.
Samson fear grew more by the group’s revelation. He needed to find his wristwatch that night or his secrets would be exposed.
"Th.. Thomas.. Keep searching. You might find evidence soon." Samson managed to say, his body tense with shock.
"I’ve looked everywhere, but there’s nothing in this pool." Thomas replied with a frustrated sigh. "The police officers may have already found all the evidence."
"I’m in trouble!" Samson muttered under his breath, his forehead sweating and his body trembling with fear.
"What’s wrong? Are you feeling cold?" Olive asked, her eyes fixed on Samson whose body was visibly trembling. "You didn’t even enter the pool."
"No! I’m okay." Samson replied as he swallowed hard, trying to calm himself down.
Lucas let out a heavy sigh, his eyes fixed on the group. "Let’s head back to school. There’s no point staying here."
The others nodded in agreement, and they began climbing the fence one by one to exit the arena.
Samson remained seated on the chair, fear evident on his face as he couldn’t shake the thought of his secrets being revealed.
"Come on, let’s go," Thomas said, placing a hand on Samson’s shoulder.
"I don’t want to. What if the police already have my wristwatch?" Samson interjected, tears streaming down his face. "I’ll end up in prison."
"There might still be a way. Let’s go back to the dorm first and then figure out our next steps," Thomas reassured, patting Samson’s back.
"I have no choice but to run away. Let’s leave this county, Thomas. Far away from everyone," Samson said, locking eyes with a shocked Thomas.
"We can’t do that. Where would you even run to that the police wouldn’t catch you? Instead of running away, we need to come up with a plan." Thomas said firmly.
" What plan, Thomas? The only option I see is to run." Samson replied angrily. "I don’t want to go to prison. I never want to go there."
"If you didn’t want to go to prison, you should have thought about that before. You never think before acting." Thomas shouted, his body tense with anger. "I disabled all the CCTV cameras to protect your secret hence you still lost your wristwatch without even realizing it until now. What do you want me to do about it?"
"Please help me, Thomas. You’re my twin brother. You mentioned something about a scapegoat. Let’s make someone else take the blame." Samson pleaded with teary eyes.
Thomas let out a heavy sigh, clearly frustrated by Samson’s suggestion.
"That’s too late. We could only do that then when the police had nothing on you yet but who knows if your wristwatch is already with them. Prepare yourself for prison or consider telling dad about what you did."
