Disguised As A Boy To Attend Belmont High School
Chapter 182: Distance Won’t Matter In The End.

Chapter 182: Distance Won’t Matter In The End.

The next day arrived swiftly, and the students of Belmont Academy were back in their classroom for revision after the morning assembly, as usual.

"Alright, students. You only have five days left until your exams. I hope you’re all prepared," Mr. James said, his voice firm, with seriousness etched on his face as he stood before the class.

He adjusted his glasses and scanned the room, ensuring he had everyone’s attention. "Anyway, different colleges are here today to take application forms. Once you’re done with your revision, go ahead to the counter of the school you’re interested in. Fill out the form, and when your exam results come out, you’ll know if you’re heading to the college you chose or if you’ll be repeating this class because they didn’t send you an email."

The students let out a collective sigh of exhaustion and apprehension, their gazes reluctantly returning to their books.

Even though they knew that their family wealth could help them get into college even if they didn’t study. At least, not entirely. They understood that while money might open doors, they still needed to achieve decent grades to avoid embarrassment or worse, rejection. For the scholarship students, the stakes were even higher. Failure wasn’t an option.

"Alright, I’ll be back shortly," Mr. James warned, his tone sharp. "If you like, turn this classroom into a marketplace. Just know that I’ll deal with whoever starts the nuisance the moment I return. If I were you, I’d keep studying and make my life useful." His piercing gaze swept the room one last time before he exited.

The moment the door closed behind him, the classroom erupted into chaos. Conversations broke out across the room, chairs scraped noisily against the floor, and laughter bounced off the walls. Amidst the commotion, a few students kept their heads down, diligently poring over their textbooks particularly the scholarship students, who knew the weight of what was at risk for them.

"I looked for you everywhere yesterday but couldn’t find you," Lucas murmured, leaning closer to Olive. His voice was barely audible amidst the noise. "I even checked the 3RM special room, but only Mark and Aiden were there. They didn’t know where you were either. You didn’t even come back to the dorm last night. Where did you sleep, Olive?"

Olive didn’t lift her head from her textbook. Her voice was cold when she finally replied, "I spent the night at Lara’s dorm. What’s the problem?"

Lucas frowned, his expression tinged with hurt. "I asked Lara yesterday about your whereabouts, but she said she didn’t know. You told her not to tell me you were with her, didn’t you?"

Instead of responding, Olive pulled out her earbuds, inserted them into her ears, and turned up the volume, effectively shutting Lucas out.

Even as the music flooded her ears, her heart ached. It was as though an invisible knife was twisting inside her chest, each word from Lucas deepening the wound.

"Hey!" Ethan’s cheerful voice broke into her bubble as he yanked one of the earbuds out of her ear. "You shouldn’t be listening to music while studying. And besides, blasting music like this for too long is bad for your ears." His warm smile revealed dimples that softened his sharp features.

Before Olive could respond, Lucas turned to Ethan, his face contorted with barely suppressed anger. "Are you done?" he snapped. "If you are, then get lost."

Ethan chuckled, unfazed by Lucas’s hostility. "Relax, man. Just looking out for him," he said, still smiling.

Olive finally spoke, her voice sharper than before. "It’s none of your business, Lucas." She turned her attention back to Ethan, extending her hand. "Now, give me my earbud."

Ethan hesitated for a moment, his gaze lingered on her face. His smile faltered for a brief moment, but he quickly recovered and handed Olive’s earpod back to her. "Sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt," he said, his voice laced with a hint of sarcasm. "I just wanted to make sure you’re taking care of yourself."

Without waiting for a response, Ethan slid into the seat beside Olive, effectively sandwiching her between himself and Lucas, who sat on her other side.

Olive’s patience snapped. She stood abruptly, her chair scraping against the floor. Her gaze darted between Ethan and Lucas, frustration clear in her voice as she demanded, "What is wrong with you two?"

The sudden commotion had already drawn the attention of their classmates, who whispered among themselves. Speculative murmurs rippled through the room, and while some tried to be discreet, others made no effort to hide their words.

"I heard the rumors about Prince Ethan being bisexual, but I didn’t believe them until now," one student muttered, her voice barely above a whisper, though her eyes blazed with curiosity and judgment.

Another chimed in, not bothering to lower her voice. "If both Lucas and Prince Ethan are bisexual, why on earth would they settle for that lowly scholarship student? It’s insulting."

Olive gritted her teeth, choosing to ignore the scornful whispers around her. She avoided looking at Lucas. Instead, she inserted the earbud back into her ear and resumed listening to her music. But no matter how loud the melodies played, they couldn’t drown out the storm brewing in her heart.

Lucas sat back, glaring at Olive with a mixture of frustration and pain. He wanted to say more but swallowed his words, choosing instead to return to his book. Silence stretched between them, heavy and unspoken.

The classroom noise raged on around them, a combination of chatter and laughter, but Olive and Lucas remained trapped in their own world, their emotions louder than the chaos outside.

The classroom fell silent as Mr. James entered, his stern presence demanding attention. The students scrambled to their seats, straightening books and notes as if they hadn’t just turned the room into a hotbed of rumors and gossip.

Mr. James scanned the class, his gaze lingering suspiciously on a few students before sighing in resignation. "Alright, enough with the revisions," he said, his voice firm. "It’s time for you all to head to the college counters. Choose the institutions you wish to apply to, fill in the necessary information, and start working towards your acceptance. Now, get moving!"

The moment Mr. James finished speaking, Olive pulled out her earpods and stood. Lara, her closest friend, quickly joined her, walking shoulder to shoulder as they left the classroom. Behind them, Mark and Aiden stayed behind to deal with Lucas, who didn’t seem ready to let Olive slip away so easily.

As they walked down the hallway, Lara cast a sidelong glance at Olive. "So, what school are you choosing? I heard Lucas is going to Belmont College, it’s pretty much decided since he’s the heir to Belmont. Are you going there too?"

Olive shook her head, a sigh escaping her lips. "I don’t think so. I’ll probably pick a college outside this city, somewhere far away from Lucas and the George family."

Lara’s steps faltered for a moment as she frowned. "You want to get that far away from Lucas? Olive, that’s... extreme. Look, I get that things are complicated, but you’re hurting him, you know?" Her voice softened, concern replacing her usual teasing tone.

"I’ve thought about it, Lara," Olive replied, her gaze fixed ahead. "If I go to another school, I won’t have to deal with the students at Belmont anymore. And honestly... if Lucas and I are meant to be, then we’ll find a way back to each other. Distance won’t matter in the end." She tried to sound resolute, but the wavering edge in her voice betrayed her uncertainty.

Lara pursed her lips, watching her friend closely. "If you say so. But don’t forget, you’re not the only one affected by this. You might regret it later."

Olive forced a small smile, trying to deflect the heaviness of the conversation. "What about you? Are you heading to Belmont College because of Mark?"

Lara rolled her eyes, but her cheeks flushed slightly. "Belmont has an incredible arts department, and you know how much I love everything about art," she replied, feigning innocence.

"And because of Mark, you naughty girl," Olive teased, her tone lighter now.

Lara couldn’t hold back a laugh and joined in as they continued down the hall.

"Honestly, I might hold off on choosing," Olive admitted after a moment. "If I don’t decide soon, Belmont College will probably send me an admission letter anyway since I’m on a full scholarship. If I don’t pick another school, I’ll just end up there by default."

Lara nodded thoughtfully. "That’s true. You should really think it through, though. But hey, I need to go submit my form now, I don’t have a scholarship like you, so I can’t afford to slack off!"

She grabbed Olive’s arm and started pulling her toward the counters, only to stop abruptly when a familiar figure stepped in front of them.

Anabella, with her signature confident smirk, blocked their path. Her eyes darted between Olive and Lara, a glint of mischief in her gaze.
