Disguised As A Boy To Attend Belmont High School
Chapter 119: Melodies And Mops.

Chapter 119: Melodies And Mops.

Just as school was over for the day, the students of Belmont filed out of their classrooms. Some made their way toward their lockers to store their books, others headed to their dorms for some rest, while a few went outside the school building to have some fun.

Olive, Lara, Mark, Henry, and Lucas made their way to the school basketball court to start their work. After walking for a few minutes, they arrived at the court. Lucas pushed the glass door open, revealing a basketball court as big as those in stadiums.

The court was a rectangular space with a smooth, wooden floor. Lines and symbols marked the surface, defining the court’s boundaries and zones. Two hoops, one at each end, stood tall and silent, their metal rims gleaming in the light.

The walls surrounding the court were a deep blue, providing a stark contrast to the warm, honey-brown color of the floor. The air was still, with a faint scent of wood and polish lingering.

Peace, already dressed in black shorts and a black top, was waiting there with cleaning supplies. Her hair was tied in a neat bun.

"Are you going to clean in your uniform?" Peace asked, her gaze directed at Lara, who was still dressed in her school uniform. The others were also still in their uniforms, none of them thinking to change before coming. It was clear they wouldn’t go back now to change either.

"Yes, let’s just get to it," Lara said, stepping closer to Peace and preparing to start cleaning. Mark, Olive, and Henry followed, rolling up their sleeves and folding their trousers.

"Wait, is Mark cleaning too?" Peace raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah?" Mark replied, puzzled. "Is there a problem?"

"That’s impossible. How can you clean? Do you think I like cleaning? But I have to because I broke the rules. You didn’t. Why are you here?" Peace asked, her expression incredulous.

"I’m helping my girlfriend," Mark said bluntly. "So, just clean your portion while I, Olive, and Henry help Lara with hers."

Peace’s eyes widened in surprise and a hint of anger at Mark’s words. She hated the idea that Lara was his girlfriend, especially since she’d been crushing on Mark since kindergarten. She had confessed her feelings before, only to be rejected and now, seeing him with Lara, someone she considered beneath her, felt like salt being rubbed into her wound. Still, she didn’t argue. Instead, she handed Mark a mop and pointed to a section of the court.

"Fine, you can start over there. You’re going to have to put in some real work."

Mark grinned and began to mop the floor, his movements awkward at first but becoming more fluid as he got the hang of it.

Meanwhile, Lara scrubbed away at a stubborn stain on the floor, her uniform sleeves rolled up to her elbows. Olive and Henry worked together, sweeping and dusting the bleachers and surrounding areas.

Lucas, who was sitting on a chair watching them clean, eventually spoke up. "Hey, guys? Can we take a break soon? I’m starving."

Lara shot him a stern look. "We just started, Lucas. We’re not taking a break until we’re done. Besides, you can take a break whenever you want. It’s not like you’re helping."

Lucas let out a frustrated sigh but stayed quiet, continuing to watch his friends work with all their energy.

After over an hour of cleaning, and with the court still far from spotless, Henry threw his mop down in frustration.

"I’m so tired! We’ve been cleaning forever!"

Olive sat down on the wet floor, equally exhausted. "Me too. Cleaning isn’t easy. I can’t imagine how long it would’ve taken Peace and Lara if we hadn’t helped."

Peace, Lara, and Mark had also stopped cleaning, sitting down on the floor and panting from exhaustion.

"Mr. James is going to double our punishment if the court isn’t spotless," Lara said, her voice strained. "I can’t believe how filthy this place is. It’s obvious no one’s cleaned it in forever."

"Of course. This is the old basketball court," Mark added with a sigh. "The school uses the new one for regular practice. This one’s only used for big competitions."

"That explains it," Lara nodded in understanding.

"I have an idea," Henry said, suddenly energized. He quickly got up and walked over to his school bag, unzipping it to pull out his phone and a small Bluetooth speaker. He connected the speaker to his phone, and soon the court filled with the sound of Nicki Minaj’s "Chun-Li."

"Woo-hoo!" Peace shouted, getting up from the floor and immediately dancing to the music.

Lara and Mark followed suit, grooving to the beat as they continued to clean.

"Why didn’t you think of this earlier?" Olive asked excitedly over the music. "This makes cleaning so much better!"

"I just remembered!" Henry shouted back with a laugh. "I always listen to music when I clean at home, it makes it go faster and keeps it fun."

He began showing off his breakdancing moves, impressing the group.

Lucas tapped his feet in rhythm with the song, a smile creeping across his face as he watched Olive dance.

"She’s crazy," Lucas muttered under his breath, his eyes lingering on her. Olive caught his gaze, and Lucas quickly looked away, embarrassed.

Olive just smiled and kept dancing, moving in sync with Henry, Lara, Mark, and even Peace, who had momentarily forgotten her distaste for being near the scholarship kids. Though Peace hated the thought of working with them, she found herself vibing to the music mostly because she wanted to impress Mark and distract him from looking at Lara.

As the group kept dancing and cleaning, the court gradually transformed before their eyes. The floor shone, the bleachers sparkled, and the air was thick with the scent of cleaning products.

Henry ran back to the speaker and switched to another song Cardi B’s "Bodak Yellow." The group erupted with energy, dancing even harder as Henry turned up the volume.

"This is so much fun!" Olive shouted over the blaring music, her laughter infectious.

Henry grinned. "Told you! Music makes everything better."

He continued to dance, showing off more of his moves as the others cheered him on. Even Lucas, still sitting in his chair, couldn’t help but bob his head to the rhythm, a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth.

As the song blasted through the court, the group worked in perfect sync cleaning, dancing, and laughing until, little by little, the mess that once seemed overwhelming began to fade.
