Did That Doctor Successfully Remarry Today?
Chapter 66 - 65 Good Night, Sweet Dreams

Chapter 66: Chapter 65 Good Night, Sweet Dreams

Originally, the two planned to leave after dinner, but who would have expected Grandma to keep chatting with Jiang An, unknowingly extending their time until late at night. Gao Chuan glanced up at the wall clock and let out a slight sigh, then turned back to see Grandma still talking nonstop in front of Jiang An, feeling a bit puzzled as to where all their whispered conversations were coming from these days.

The man helplessly went upstairs alone to join a remote medical consultation. Several experts got into a dispute due to differing opinions, and the consultation dragged on until midnight. After closing his laptop, Dr. Gao leaned back in his chair, rubbing his eyebrows tiredly. Moonlight already streamed in through the window, illuminating half of the man’s face.

Thinking that Jiang An would have already gone to bed by this time, Gao Chuan quietly pushed open the bedroom door only to discover two soft, star-like glimmers still shining in the dim room. The girl, already in her pajamas, was lying on the bed playing with her phone. As Gao Chuan entered from behind, he saw her excitedly curled toes.

Only when he approached the bedside did he see Jiang An’s somewhat blurry face in the dim light. Fully engrossed in her phone screen, the girl hadn’t realized the man had stood by the bed. While getting into bed himself, Gao Chuan asked, "How come you’re not asleep yet?"

Jiang An then snapped back to reality, glancing up to see the man already lying beside her, but her gaze didn’t linger long and did not put down her phone, simply replying, "Scrolling through Weibo."

Dr. Gao, considered an "old fogy" by others, had never installed Weibo on his phone, so he merely grunted in acknowledgment and noticed the little girl still busily swiping on her phone, her round face glowing from the phone’s illumination.

Dr. Gao gradually lay back, gazing at the ceiling for a few seconds before asking Jiang An, "Aren’t you going to sleep?"

Without taking her eyes off the phone screen, Jiang An replied, "Oh, you go ahead and sleep. I’ll watch a little longer."

Hearing this, Gao Chuan furrowed his brows, wanting to close his eyes, but without the slightest hint of sleepiness, he turned to look at Jiang An, still brimming with energy, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he inquired, "What are you watching?"

"My favorite CP just posted something sweet," Jiang An replied in a raspy voice, then second-guessing that Dr. Gao might not follow these things and probably didn’t even know what "something sweet" meant, she automatically added, "CP means couple, and the sweet stuff is when they show affection publicly."

Listening to the girl patiently explain, Dr. Gao hummed in response.

Jiang An, noticing Dr. Gao still hadn’t fallen asleep, felt a bit bad leaving him out, so she turned her phone to her profile page and waved it in front of Dr. Gao, "Look Dr. Gao, even Grandma knows how to like my posts."

Dr. Gao focused his gaze and saw that the girl’s Weibo ID was "Little Stupid Who Loves Strawberries," and the new user she was pointing to was called "Anan’s Grandma." He slightly lifted the corners of his mouth and nodded in acknowledgment.

Jiang An had thought of teaching Grandma how to use a smartphone, seeing how mundane her daily life was. Surprisingly, the elderly woman was quite adept at learning and now could even handle basic Weibo functions.

"Do you use Weibo, Dr. Gao?" Jiang An put her phone away and asked casually. Only after she finished speaking did she remember that just the other day at Grandma’s house, Dr. Gao had mentioned that he doesn’t use Weibo. As expected, she heard the man say calmly, "No, I don’t."

However, as he looked at how engrossed the girl was, it must be quite enjoyable for her to be on Weibo. Young people these days probably all love it, thought Gao Chuan to himself.

Song Li once said that although he looked to be in his twenties, his demeanor was that of a man past his prime.

As the topic ended, a silence fell once more. The girl continued to update her idol’s Weibo feed under the dim light, while Dr. Gao closed his eyes, trying to force himself to clear his mind and sleep.

Just a few minutes later, the man’s voice broke the silence again. "Go to sleep, staying up late is bad for your health."

Jiang An, hearing the man say this, paused and nodded, put away her phone under the pillow, and obediently snuggled into the bed. The next second, the man had already turned off the two bedside lamps.

"Dr. Gao, good dreams." The girl’s sweet voice floated through the darkness.

She thought Dr. Gao would just wish her "goodnight" and then fall asleep, but after a few seconds of silence, the man asked curiously, "What does that mean?"

It took Jiang An a few seconds to realize that Gao Chuan was probably asking what "good dreams" meant. She couldn’t hold back a laugh, "Pfft," although she’d gotten used to Dr. Gao’s "ignorance" when it came to trendy online phrases. Every time he asked her about them, instead of feeling annoyed, she found it quite adorable. The girl slightly turned her body and explained again: "Good dreams is just a way of saying goodnight and sweet dreams."

Jiang An revealed a slight smile and heard the man say "Oh" in understanding, closed her eyes again intending to sleep. Her breathing had not yet settled when she heard the man’s magnetically rich voice beside her.

"Good dreams."

In the silent tranquility, his deep voice was like a gentle, refreshing breeze, softly brushing against the tips of her heart.

The girl’s eyes snapped open again, listened as the man quickly picked up on the phrase, her ears instantly becoming hot, she quickly turned her back to Gao Chuan, leaving him only her back. In Gao Chuan’s blind spot, the girl’s lips curled wildly, her cheeks blushed like blooming peach blossoms.

Perhaps, there will eventually come a person in your life who arrives silently by your side and takes all of you away when they leave.

Gao Chuan slightly turned his head, gazing at the slender back of the girl under the moonlight before gradually closing his eyes.

The moonlight shyly spilled through the window into the quiet room that night, and the girl soon drifted into dreamland. Perhaps due to the gloomy and slightly hot air during the day, she restlessly kicked away her blanket. Gao Chuan was still faintly conscious, feeling someone coming close through his sleepy eyes, and upon opening his deep-set eyes, he found Jiang An had somehow moved closer to him. Perhaps because they slept together often, the girl had gradually let her guard down and no longer maintained that absurd sleeping posture.

Right now, the girl hung on Gao Chuan like a frog, and by the time Gao Chuan realized it, one of her legs was boldly tangled with his calf, the touch of skin on skin instantly igniting a fire inside him.

Gao Chuan felt his mouth dry and his tongue parched, knowing this wouldn’t do. He extended a hand to push the girl away but the moment he touched her arm, the soundly sleeping girl hummed a few times, and the next second her calf returned to its original position, only to grab onto the man’s arm even more tightly, as if it was the stuffed toy she usually held while sleeping. Her small head even rubbed a few times on it, truly like a clingy kitten.

In the tranquil night, the man gazed down quietly at the girl’s sleeping face for a while, his eyes and brow suddenly softened, and then, gently and silently, he pulled the girl a little closer to himself.

His chin rubbed against the top of her head, satisfied, he closed his eyes again.

She was his, sooner or later, she had always been.
