The Boss Lady’s cheerful voice came through, and both of them were suddenly taken aback.

Jiang An slightly turned her head to glance at Gao Chuan. The man’s facial expression subtly changed after hearing the Boss Lady’s unintended polite words, clearly touched by her remarks.

After all, the Boss Lady did not know the true story behind Gao Chuan’s resignation and was unaware that he was forced to change careers.

As the woman walked, she occasionally looked around, noting that the familiar pedestrian street was obviously much livelier than before, with many new shops popping up on the roadside. Walking along the street, she unconsciously arrived at the entrance of City Hospital.

In recent years, the city had invested in construction, and the building they had once worked at now became the old hospital district. She had heard this the last time she went in to deal with some matters.

Four years had passed, and things had changed, with memories almost filling the streets, as if every corner had once witnessed their presence.

Jiang An slowly collected her thoughts, suddenly stopped in her tracks, and turned her gaze towards the man who had been by her side the entire time.

The two had walked the entire way in a tacit silence, but the atmosphere did not feel awkward; after all, she knew that Gao Chuan’s habitual lack of conversation was an old problem of his.

Seeing her stop, Gao Chuan also halted his steps and turned his head to realize they had arrived at the entrance of City Hospital, with the several buildings in front still brightly lit.

Since resigning, he hadn’t been back here, as if he had completely cut off his aspirations to be a doctor.

"Why did you resign without trying to fight for it?" Jiang An, too, gazed at the building where she once worked, noticing the emotion in the man beside her and remarked with a touch of sorrow.

"You clearly loved being a doctor so much, won’t you regret it?"

The woman went on speaking to herself, her tone laced with an unmistakable sense of melancholy.

Her gentle whispers reached Gao Chuan’s ears, and he paused, turning to see Jiang An looking at him sympathetically. He pursed his lips and remained silent, a spark igniting in his frosty eyes.

He had thought that no one understood him.

Ever since Jiang An left, Gao Lin and Shen Mei had been expressing their dissatisfaction with him, and his contact with his family had diminished, until two years ago when Gao Lin suffered a stroke and, after a brush with death, managed to cling onto life. Upon being discharged, he demanded Gao Chuan resign and join Gao Group to help manage the family business with the threat of his life.

He did not resist, for he knew this day would eventually come.

After that, he was parachuted into the Gao Group as vice president and began his day after day of busy work. For him, life didn’t seem to have changed much; it was just another job that he had no control over.

But now, someone was asking him, didn’t he regret it?

Gao Chuan looked down at Jiang An before him, his lips soon curving into a barely noticeable smile.

Now, hearing such a simple sentence from her, it seemed as if all the dark clouds had dispersed.

Jiang An, looking at the calm-faced man before her, knew the pain hidden behind his serene façade. She furrowed her brow in the dim light and said in a lowered voice, "No matter whether you’re still working at the hospital or not, in my eyes, you are always the best Dr. Gao."

No matter how others praised his lofty status, from now on, Dr. Gao would be a title exclusive to her.

Gao Chuan listened to Jiang An’s firm words, and, somewhat surprisingly, looked at her for a long while before a smile spread across his face.
