Chapter 240: Chapter 236: Denied Entry

Chapter 236 Rejected at the Door

Jiang An arrived in Lin City with her uncle the next afternoon. Right after getting off the plane, a dedicated car was already waiting for them. Jiang An obediently followed behind Fang Ping when a tall teenager energetically waved to them from the crowd near the boarding gate, shouting loudly, "Dad, over here."

As Fang Ping walked in front of Jiang An, he pointed to the teenager and introduced him to her: "Anan, this is your brother, Fang Mo."

Both of them walked out together, and the waiting teenager ran directly up to Jiang An, excitedly moving to embrace her, affectionately calling out "Sis."

Jiang An was hastily embraced by the teenager, her face still wearing a hint of surprise as she listened to Fang Ping explain by her side, "This kid knew you were in Jing City a couple of days ago and insisted on coming with me."

Jiang An smiled politely, greeting the enthusiastic teenager in front of her. She had already briefly learned about him from her uncle in Jing City — he was Fang Ping’s only son, Fang Mo, and he had just started his freshman year of college.

"Hey sis, welcome home," the teenager said to Jiang An with a reserved smile, seemingly feeling that he had been too excited earlier as he scratched his head, his expression somewhat candid and embarrassed.

Jiang An joined the father and son in their car, and it took about half an hour to reach the Fang Family’s villa. Upon arriving in the new environment, she couldn’t help feeling a bit shy, and Fang Mo thoughtfully helped her with her luggage and guided her inside.

The Fang Family was known for its scholarly heritage, and their pharmaceutical business was also a centuries-old brand, making them a famous and prominent local family.

As Jiang An entered the house with her brother, a peaceful little garden greeted her, fragrant plants filling her view, their pleasant scent overwhelming as she drew closer. She couldn’t help but be drawn to the flowers as she heard Fang Mo say beside her, "My mom knew you were coming and has been busy preparing lunch since early morning."

Within a few steps, they entered the main hall, where an elegant lady was supporting an elderly man with white hair, who was anxiously waiting. Upon seeing her with Fang Mo, the old man, leaning on his cane, excitedly shuffled forward a few steps, affectionately calling out "Anan."

Once she recognized the old man as her long-sought grandfather, her eyes couldn’t help but redden, and she emotionally called out, "Grandpa."

The old man’s deeply lined face slightly broke into a smile, his voice trembling as he responded and stepped closer to Jiang An, gently caressing her cheek, "Good child, let grandpa have a good look at you."

The scene of reunion was exceptionally moving; the family standing by also couldn’t help wiping away tears, hearing the old gentleman repeatedly saying, "It’s good you’re back, it’s good you’re back."

Jiang An had imagined her reunion with her relatives countless times. Now finally returning home, the whole family gathered around her, showering her with care and warmth, creating an atmosphere even more wonderful than she had dreamed.

In the days that followed, Jiang An stayed at Fang Ping’s house. Her uncle’s family took exceptional care of her, especially Aunt Gu Jing, who, knowing Jiang An’s hardships living alone all these years, arranged her food, clothing, housing, and transportation perfectly, treating her as her own daughter.

With the company of her family, she gradually pushed aside her worries, and it felt more like she was here on a leisurely holiday.

Lin City, a typical river town in Jiangnan, has its fair share of ancient villages. It was Jiang An’s first visit here, and whenever she felt bored at home, she would go out for a stroll with Fang Mo, enjoying a leisurely and happy life.

A week after Jiang An left, Gao Chuan entrusted Secretary Chen with a project that Gao Family needed to discuss in Lin City, using work as an excuse to fly over.

The development projects in Lin City were usually managed by another manager from the company. When Gao Chuan ordered the handover, Secretary Chen felt it strange—recently, Gao Chuan had been delegating travel tasks to others.

Helpless as a devoted employee, he still followed his boss to Lin City, only realizing Gao Chuan’s elaborate plan to take this business trip when he commanded him to drive straight to a villa area right after landing.

Mixing business with personal matters, couldn’t be more obvious.

Without stopping, the two headed directly for the Fang Family’s home. Gao Chuan thought that even though he and Jiang An had lost their previous connection, the long-standing cooperation with the Fang Family still existed, so he intended to visit as a business partner.

Secretary Chen, carrying a few gifts, followed him, sending a servant to announce their arrival.

Unexpectedly, they were turned away at the door; Fang Ping knew Gao Chuan was outside, furrowed his brows, and directly ordered the servant to send them away.

Fang Mo, who was having tea with him in the living room, asked curiously upon seeing this. Hearing that Gao Chuan was Jiang An’s ex-husband, whom Jiang An had married and had a miscarriage, the young man showed a look of anger, ignoring Fang Ping’s attempt to stop him and directly followed the servant out.

Gao Chuan, who was still waiting outside, was already somewhat anxious. He looked up at the two-story villa in front of him, silently wondering where Jiang An might be living.

Unexpectedly, he was greeted by a flustered teenager who opened the door, came out with an air of arrogance, and coldly questioned him: "Are you Gao Chuan?"

Gao Chuan looked him up and down and nodded silently.

Unexpectedly, the next second, the teenager rushed up and punched him. Being a teenager around eighteen or nineteen, his punches were neither light nor heavy, making Gao Chuan stagger a step backwards.

Secretary Chen, seeing this, quickly supported him and shouted directly at Fang Mo: "Hey? Why did you hit him?"

Fang Mo glared fiercely at Gao Chuan, declaring, "I hit you, you scumbag, and you still dare to show up here."

As he was about to continue, Fang Ping hurried over and intervened timely. The man stood between the two and calmly apologized: "I’m sorry, President Gao, my son was disrespectful just now."

Gao Chuan had already regained his composure, still with traces on his face from the teenager’s punch, and with a calm expression, he said: "It’s okay."

Fang Ping turned back and glared at the still furious Fang Mo, signaling the young man to retreat, then turned politely, "President Gao, if you’ve come to discuss business, I am currently off-duty. Please visit the company instead."

"If it’s for personal matters, I’m afraid I cannot entertain you."

In the business world, it is always about battling of wits, and Gao Chuan, who had negotiated with Fang Ping before, knew that this man always adhered to his principles and was not easily swayed.

The words he spoke now had deeper meanings, a polite refusal on the surface but aggressive in essence.

Fang Ping, looking straight at Gao Chuan, had always appreciated Gao Chuan’s performance in business as a partner, finding him calm and reserved, truly talented. However, knowing that he had wronged Jiang An in the past, he could no longer hold any favorable views of him.

Back when Jiang An married him, she was alone and helpless, and he allowed her to be treated so poorly that she left the country disappointed. Now that Jiang An had recognized her ancestry and returned, he again wants to reconcile, the reasons of which were clear to Fang Ping.

Leaving aside whether Gao Chuan would admit his mistakes in the future, Jiang An suffering a miscarriage while with the Gao Family alone was enough for him to settle a big score with them.

"President Gao, please leave." The man directly signaled the servants to see the guest out, indicating Fang Mo to turn back.

The young man followed behind Fang Ping and, not conceding, turned back to glare at Gao Chuan, spitting out the word "scumbag."

Taking a few steps, Fang Ping turned and asked Fang Mo, "Where is your sister?"

"She went shopping with my mom."

Fang Ping nodded and instructed, "Don’t let your sister know someone came today."

As the group gradually dispersed, Gao Chuan and Secretary Chen were left standing outside, the man standing still, his dark eyes emitting a chill, silently turning to get in the car.

Secretary Chen drove ahead, glancing at Gao Chuan through the rearview mirror, noticing that his face was as dark as if ink might drip from it, and cautiously spoke, "President Gao, don’t be mad, Ms. Jiang would definitely be happy if she knew you came."

Coming all this way to see one’s wife, only to be treated like this by her family, would be embarrassing for anyone, Secretary Chen thought to himself.

The man sitting in the backseat, one hand supporting his forehead, his expression hardly concealing his fatigue, heard him and slightly lifted his eyelids, his eyes momentarily indecipherable.

Is that so?

Would she be happy?
