Chapter 174 Dr. Gao, I’m Sorry
What to redeem you with? Only love. — Xicheng Tears
The rain, pitter-pattering, kept falling all night.
It was close to dawn when the man finally dragged his exhausted body home, his suit jacket draped over one arm, and his tie already pulled off. The rain had dampened his black shirt, slightly opening at the collar to reveal his sexy clavicle.
Gao Chuan arrived at the entrance hall and was surprised to find the lights in the living room were still on. He put down his clothes, changed into slippers, and walked in, indeed finding the girl who had fallen asleep on the sofa.
The night was chilly, and she didn’t even have a blanket covered over her. The man frowned at the sight and went forward to pick Jiang An up in his arms.
He knew that Jiang An wouldn’t have done what she did today if she had known the story behind his birthday. He certainly would not get angry at her without grounds.
Looking down at the tear-streaked Jiang An in his arms, his heart suddenly tightened.
Perhaps he shouldn’t have left Jiang An alone in the private room.
Carrying the girl to the bedroom, despite trying to be as gentle and quiet as possible, Jiang An, already not sleeping well, blinked her eyelids awake. When she opened her eyes, she found Gao Chuan was carrying her to the bed. In the silent moment, her tearful eyes locked with his, waves surging. She immediately wrapped her arms around the man standing by the bed.
It was not until Jiang An hugged him that Gao Chuan realized she was awake. As the man bent over, he felt her aproach and paused for a moment, and then heard Jiang An’s soft voice close to his ear.
She said, "Dr. Gao, I’m sorry."
"I’m sorry, I didn’t know today was your grandfather’s memorial day," Jiang An spoke, and tears suddenly welled up in her eyes, as if releasing all the grievances accumulated from the night before.
Gao Chuan listened to the girl’s sobbing voice beside his ear, sensing her tearful state, and he gently soothed her back with his hand.
"Don’t be angry, you can hit me instead," Jiang An slowly released the man in front of her, her head buried low, crying in front of Gao Chuan.
Gao Chuan fixed his gaze on the girl in front of him who was earnestly admitting her mistake, his lips curving into a faint smile. He tenderly wiped the tears from Jiang An’s eyes with his finger.
At that moment, with her eyes glistening with tears, Jiang An slightly raised her clear eyes, finding the man gently cradling her face, sitting beside the bed, and softly saying to her, "Jiang An, I’m not angry, and I definitely won’t hit you."
Yesterday, he was already in a bad mood, and the misunderstanding that occurred only compounded his frustration, causing him to leave the event abruptly. Now, he realized he had been too rash and should not have left Jiang An there without a word.
Jiang An felt the man awkwardly caressing her back slowly, his words soft as if comforting a two or three-year-old, "I’m really terrible, I didn’t even know your birthday..."
The man paused in his actions upon hearing these words. It seemed it was Jiang An’s usual style to immediately take all the blame and distress upon herself.
But in truth, she was not to blame for this matter, and no one had ever told her about this taboo.
Gao Chuan gently touched Jiang An’s shoulder, noticing that she was still sobbing. Unable to speak flowery words to cheer her up, he acted directly by lifting her chin and kissing her.
Caught off guard by the man’s sudden kiss, Jiang An did not refuse. Forced to tilt her head up, she endured the man’s fervent kiss. This time, the kiss wasn’t like the passionate ones they had shared before; it was more of a soothing gesture from the man.
Dr. Gao did not pry open her teeth to delve deep inside as before, but kissed the soft lips of the girl gently, sensing Jiang An’s breathing gradually becoming heavy, he patiently stopped and looked at the girl whose emotions had finally settled down, and his gentle lips fell on her cheeks.
The girl’s face, full of tear beads, was lightly kissed by the man, with a hint of salty bitterness on her lips.
He couldn’t bear to see her cry; whenever she cried, his heart would rise in concern.
In the midst of their affection, the girl was gently pushed down onto the bed by the man. Jiang An, dazed, stared at the man before her, her face already flushed with a rosy hue.
Just a few minutes before, she had been crying breathlessly, yet now she had quieted down obediently after the man’s silent kisses.
Dr. Gao had never been one to cajole women, as if all his words were contained in that deep kiss.
The man gently caressed the girl’s delicate cheek with his rough fingers, casually lifting a stray lock of hair by Jiang An’s temple, watching her eyelashes tremble, a serene light flashing in his eyes.
"Jiang An, you don’t have to blame yourself," the man slowly bent down, his peach blossom eyes full of affection, his tall figure overshadowing the faint light in Jiang An’s eyes.
"I don’t blame you," the man uttered in his hoarse voice as if he had thought long before saying these words, "I’m happy you came today."
In the silence, their eyes intertwined, both glimpsing true feelings in the other’s gaze.
The man’s deep voice carelessly played with Jiang An’s heartstrings. It seemed he had not said a single word to comfort her, but his "I’m happy you came" dispelled the gloom in the girl’s heart.
Without waiting for Jiang An to respond, the man leaned in to kiss her again, and she naturally wrapped her arms around the man’s neck, the two becoming entangled on the bed.
She always seemed so easy to please, a single kiss able to make her forget the displeasure of the day before.
In just a few hours, the sky was brightly lit, the dim morning light poured over the two of them.
Although they had gone to bed late the night before, Jiang An still opened her eyes to find Gao Chuan still holding her in his arms asleep, and she turned slightly in his embrace to study his sleeping face.
She always loved to watch him like this, as if Dr. Gao was some endlessly fascinating treasure.
But this time, she was caught red-handed. The man had somehow stealthily awakened and, seeing Jiang An was about to get out of bed, stretched out his hand from behind to hold her again, his chin gently resting on the top of her head, his voice lazy: "Sleep a bit longer."
Jiang An returned to the man’s embrace, laughing playfully, "Stop it, I have to go to work."
"Do you still feel bad?" the person behind her asked abruptly.
Jiang An, recalling her tears and snot in the man’s embrace the night before, instantaneously lost face, "I don’t feel bad anymore."
It was truly embarrassing. Even though it was her mistake, in the end, Gao Chuan had to comfort her.
The man hugged her tighter, suddenly leaning in close to her ear, asking, "And where is my gift?"
Jiang An, listening to the man’s forgiving tone as he asked for a gift from her, finally remembered the surprise she had prepared yesterday.
