Chapter 155: Chapter 153: He Had a Flash Marriage
Chapter 153 He Had a Shotgun Wedding
The night was still young.
Inside a retro bar, under the shimmering lights, men and women indulged in wild eating and drinking, swaying to the restless music in the dance floor, while a few people sat by the bar, admiring the bartender skillfully juggling continuously flipping bottles, occasionally bursting into rowdy laughter.
Red lights and green liquor, an atmosphere of indulgence.
Song Xin, wearing a black hollowed-out mini skirt, was one of the wild dancers in the dance floor, attracting many men, but she silently waved her hand to refuse them.
It seemed like it was only after getting tired that she finally returned to the sofa on the second floor, joining a group of friends; it was rare to see Song Xin coming out for a bar outing, and some uninformed ones jokingly teased her.
"Why did you suddenly think of calling us out to play today, Ms. Song?"
Despite the laughter of the crowd, Song Xin draped her coat over herself and sat down in the center of the sofa, picking up a freshly mixed cocktail from the table to drink.
"Hey, so many people hit on you, how come you rejected them all—when are you going to find a man for me?" a close girlfriend asked, having seen her alone in the dance floor.
Perhaps because the music was too loud, everyone had to raise their voices when speaking, amidst laughter and jokes, the woman occasionally responded, but her glass of liquor quickly emptied.
Song Xin leaned back on the sofa with a languid posture, her gaze captivating, "Today you all played with me, I’ll pick up the tab."
Someone nearby giggled, "Our Ms. Song must be here to drown her sorrows in alcohol!"
Among the friends were also those who had been present on her birthday, naturally understanding some of Song Xin’s troubles, which were still about Gao Chuan.
Listening to her friends’ teasing, Song Xin chuckled dully, her red lips tightly closed, exuding a cold charm unintentionally.
Everyone knew Song Xin had been aggressively pursuing Gao Chuan for years, only to end up with such a heart-wrenching outcome.
Drinking might really be the only way to forget the sorrows—getting drunk on a thousand cups.
The woman sat up straight again, contemplating for a long while, then moved to a friend nearby; the real reason she came out today wasn’t just to shake off the unhappiness, but she also had a very important goal.
That was to find out about Gao Chuan’s marriage partner; considering Gao Chuan’s low-profile nature, a secret marriage was expected, but she couldn’t understand why her brother kept it so confidential.
Unless there was something fishy about the marriage partner.
Or maybe the partner didn’t even exist.
And she was curious to see what kind of woman Gao Chuan could possibly marry? How could Song Xin be inferior to that woman?
Seeing Song Xin sit next to him, the friend grinned and handed her a drink, while loud music still filled their ears, after they clinked glasses, Song Xin leaned on his shoulder, her face slightly drunk and slurred, asking, "Do you know about Gao Chuan getting married?"
The person in front of her was Gao Chuan’s cousin, who likely knew about the man’s marriage, the woman thought to herself.
The man looked at the woman leaning on his shoulder, smiling with a crooked mouth, seemingly not expecting her to ask so directly, knowing Song Xin’s feelings, he nodded.
Gao Chuan’s marriage was only known by a few people in the family, as there was no wedding ceremony and no public announcement. It was only natural that Song Xin, who had just returned to the country, didn’t know about it. The man thought to himself.
Song Xin’s face stiffened when she heard the man nod in agreement, she let go of the arm that was around his shoulder and picked up the bottle of wine from the table, tilting her head back to take a swig.
So, it was all true. He really got married.
Her heart felt as if a heavy weight had crashed upon it. The woman collected herself and leaned closer to the man’s ear, her face already showing signs of intoxication, and she continued to ask: "So, tell your sister-in-law, who is the bride?"
The man had never intended to deceive Song Xin, but since he had only met Jiang An once, his memory of her wasn’t very clear. Right now, he simply couldn’t recall Jiang An’s name.
"I’m not too sure myself, but she seems a lot younger than my brother, and I haven’t seen her around much either," the man pondered while explaining to Song Xin, remembering the last time he saw his seemingly insignificant new sister-in-law was when the family’s younger cousin had arranged a gathering.
The reason he remembered this so clearly was because of the awkward moment they had during a game. Seeing that Song Xin seemed very interested, he added, "It seems like I’ve never heard my brother talk about dating before. According to my aunt, they got married after knowing each other for less than two months."
Song Xin’s ears perked up at this, her eyes flashing with surprise. They had a shotgun wedding?
Impossible, Gao Chuan was not the impulsive type.
"Right, you could ask the younger cousin; she seems to be quite close with the sister-in-law." The man really couldn’t recall much about Jiang An, only remembering that that night, Jiang An had sat reservedly on the couch, only joining in their game later before leaving early with Gao Chuan.
Hearing this, Song Xin nodded, her curiosity towards Gao Chuan’s marital choice deepening.
If it was really as he said, then all of this was too suspicious.
From her understanding of Gao Chuan, setting aside his declaration of being a bachelor earlier, he had always been considerate of his family’s feelings and would never engage in something so rash like marrying in haste without notifying his parents.
Such childish behavior didn’t seem like something Gao Chuan would do.
Taking advantage of the time when they were playing games together, Song Xin took her cellphone and went alone to the restroom. During this free moment, she eagerly searched through her contacts for Gao Chuan’s younger cousin’s WeChat and sent a few messages.
She refused to believe that she couldn’t uncover the identity of this woman.
Moreover, she had an ominous feeling that she might know this person, which is why her brother had consistently kept his mouth shut about it.
The more she thought about it, the more anxious she felt. The woman put down her phone, staring at her heavily made-up reflection in the mirror, her face slightly red from the alcohol she had consumed.
Just as she raised her hand to turn on the faucet, a woman in a red long dress walked in, probably to touch up her makeup. Song Xin, startled, gazed at the face of the person standing next to her in the mirror.
The woman next to her was none other than Ji Wanwan, the Gao Family’s eldest daughter-in-law.
Although they weren’t very familiar with each other, Song Xin had heard some not-so-good rumors about Ji Wanwan in the Gao family, who was also a very popular celebrity at the moment.
After hesitating for a few seconds, Song Xin turned off the faucet, facing the woman still touching up her makeup in the mirror, cleared her throat and called out, "Is that you, Sister-in-Law Wanwan?"
Ji Wanwan, hearing a strange woman’s voice beside her, turned slightly with a puzzled expression.
"Do you know me?"
