Chapter 139: Chapter 138: After So Long, You Still Can’t Even Breathe Properly

Chapter 138 After All This Time, Still Not Knowing How To Breathe

Jiang An had managed to calm her frantic heart only when she reached the entrance of the hospital. Every step she took away from Ren Lin felt like treading on thin ice.

But this was perhaps for the best; having laid it all out, even if they couldn’t be friends in the future, it was better than leaving things ambiguous.

No sooner had the girl lifted her foot towards the elevator than her phone in her pocket pinged twice.

Jiang An took it out to check and realized it was a message from Dr. Gao— one from twenty minutes ago and the other from just now.

Gao Chuan: Where are you

Gao Chuan: Come to my office

Seeing the sudden message from the man, Jiang An’s face registered confusion. She replied, asking if there was something he needed.

The elevator reached the floor, but Dr. Gao had yet to reply. Jiang An glanced at her phone and, with some time left before her afternoon shift, she quietly approached the door to Gao Chuan’s office.

The sound of the girl’s gentle knocking reached inside, where Gao Chuan was sitting in his chair with his eyes closed, resting. Below his striking pair of sword-like eyebrows, dark eyes as sharp as cold stars opened upon hearing the sound from outside, and he slowly went to open the door.

The moment the door was pushed open, Jiang An stood before him. She seemed not to have expected him to open the door for her and became somewhat flustered, just about to ask what he wanted when she saw the man step aside slightly, making way for her to enter, and coldly commanded, "Come in."

Jiang An noticed the detachment in the man’s gaze, and her heart inexplicably twitched.

The girl stepped inside, and Gao Chuan locked the door behind her. Jiang An’s bell-like voice rang out in the room: "Dr. Gao, you were looking for me..."

Before she could finish her sentence, the man behind her suddenly turned around, seized her wrist, and pressed her against the desk; his burning lips followed in quick succession.

Because of the man’s hurried actions, Jiang An nearly hit the corner of the desk with her backside, feeling a twinge of pain in her waist, startled by Dr. Gao’s sudden move.

"Mmm..."

He was forcefully kissing her.

The man at that moment was like a fierce wolf with fire in its eyes, completely disregarding the struggling movements of Jiang An’s hands, as he forcefully ground over the girl’s lips, sweeping across them, and stealing away her gradually faint breath.

Although they had kissed many times before, Dr. Gao had always been exceedingly gentle. However, this time it was like a swift, violent storm, and Jiang An could only feel dizzy from the intense kissing.

All she could do was struggle forcefully, but compared to the tall stature of Dr. Gao, it was utterly insignificant.

It was unknown how much time had passed before the man eventually withdrew from the girl’s lips, but instead of stepping back, he lifted the panting girl onto the desk, his arms encircling her within his domain.

Looking into Jiang An’s tearful, almond-shaped eyes, which held a touch of grievance, she gazed back at him.

Her lips, just conquered by the man, were a deep red, rippling as if with water.

"Dr. Gao, this is a hospital," Jiang An said while gasping for air, emphasizing her point as she looked up at the man, who was staring fiercely down at her, his hands braced on the desk.

He must be crazy today, Jiang An thought.

The sight of the girl gasping for air caught the man’s eye, and the anger in Gao Chuan’s heart seemed to dissipate by half. He didn’t heed the girl’s complaints but instead raised his hand to lightly wipe the tear from the corner of Jiang An’s eye with his forefinger, asking softly, "After all this time, you still haven’t learned how to breathe?"

The tone in his voice carried a hint of mockery, yet the corners of his mouth couldn’t help but curl up slightly.

But this was indeed the truth; it wasn’t so bad if it didn’t last long, but as soon as he lingered for a while, Jiang An would certainly end up breathless.

Upon hearing the man complain about her kissing skills after forcefully kissing her, Jiang An immediately felt her temper flare, her eyes brimming with grievance.

So, he was mocking her for being inept, was he?

Jiang An was typically not the type to admit defeat. Bowing her head to avoid the man’s gaze, she retorted, "Then perhaps Dr. Gao should go find someone else."

This was too much, outrageously so. Not only had she been kissed out of the blue to the point of breathlessness, but now the man was criticizing her for not knowing how to breathe during the kiss; it was a complete indignity.

Her soft voice reached Gao Chuan’s ears, and he looked down at the girl’s stubborn yet timid appearance, smiling softly with a curve of his lips.

Bending slightly to lift the girl’s chin, Jiang An was forced to meet his eyes, and a thousand ripples danced in her gaze.

He looked down at her foxy eyes and couldn’t resist kissing her, softly saying, "I will only kiss my wife."

Feeling a moistness building in her eyes, Jiang An’s face turned a bright red at his words.

Seeing her reaction, he leaned in again aiming for her nose, but was stopped by her lifting her head and pressing against him, asking in a soft voice, "Why all of a sudden... like this?"

They had agreed to maintain a distance while at the hospital, so why did he pull her into his office to kiss her on his very first day back.

Hearing Jiang An’s question, Gao Chuan’s brow furrowed slightly. As she noticed his uniform collar was wrinkled and reached to fix it for him, he gently grasped her arm before she could finish, and abruptly asked, "Do you still want to stay at the hospital after your internship?"

It was a competitive system, and eventually, Jiang An would have to confront the matter of staying or leaving.

"Of course, I do," Jiang An replied, City Hospital was the best in Jing City, and she would love nothing more than to stay.

"We can’t keep our relationship a secret forever," Gao Chuan stated calmly. He had previously agreed to keep it hidden for fear of rumors, but if Jiang An was going to work at City Hospital in the future, it was inevitable that their relationship would become public.

But, what really mattered was that he was uncomfortable with the secrecy.

Looking up at the man still fretting over this matter, and appearing as petulant as a sulking child, Jiang An suddenly laughed out loud, wrapping her arms around his neck, "Alright, Dr. Gao, I understand what you’re saying. Let me think about it. I have my first assessment coming up, so let’s not go public just yet."

Listening to Jiang An, the man’s ears turned a shade of red, and his cool gaze finally softened.

He had no choice but to listen to his wife.

"As you wish," he turned his face away gently, ultimately compromising.

He had no choice; he still had to consider what was best for Jiang An.

Seeing the man agree to her request, a wave of joy surged through Jiang An’s heart, and she moved forward to kiss the man’s lips willingly.

This was her reward, she told him.

After another moment of tenderness, Gao Chuan gently seated the girl on a chair beside the office table. Jiang An looked up at the clock, noting there were fifteen minutes left before the afternoon shift began and opened her mouth, intending to leave.

Before she could speak, she heard the man behind her ask, "What exactly has Ren Lin told you?"
