Chapter 122: Chapter 121: Jiang An Cares About Him a Lot
Chapter 121 Anan Really Cares for Him
Anan returned to the hospital only in the afternoon. Dr. Li had a surgery scheduled for the afternoon and she needed to be present as the assistant surgeon. The surgery lasted for over three hours, and only after everything was over did Anan step out of the operating room together with Dr. Li.
Walking side by side down the corridor, with Dr. Li in front, he briefly explained some post-operative data that Anan needed to pay extra attention to, which she listened to and silently took to heart.
Two young nurses passed by and greeted them, "Dr. Li, Dr. Jiang."
Dr. Li looked up at the two young nurses and suddenly stopped explaining to Anan, asking with concern, "How is Dr. Gao now? Has he left the operating room?"
Upon hearing the man in front mention Dr. Gao, Anan couldn’t help raising her head. She saw the young nurse showing a worried expression upon hearing the question, and answered anxiously, "It seems that the stitching is already done. Dr. Bai just went there."
Dr. Li’s furrowed brow did not ease upon hearing this, but he nodded to show he understood the situation.
Anan had originally thought they were discussing a surgery in the department and had not paid much attention. However, she overheard the two young nurses at the nurses’ station discussing what had happened in the department that morning as she was fetching a report. Their conversation mentioned Dr. Gao in bits and pieces.
"You have no idea, I was really scared to death. That man just took out a cleaver," a young nurse said with a still terrified expression as she recounted the morning’s incident.
"Ay, I heard that Dr. Gao rushed to block it right away. If it weren’t for Dr. Gao, Dr. Bai probably would have been in mortal danger!"
Hearing the nurses’ continuous sighs, Anan, with a puzzled look on her face, asked, "What are you talking about? What happened?"
The two gossiping nurses looked up at Anan’s confused expression and explained, "Dr. Jiang, you weren’t here in the morning and don’t know, there was a doctor-patient incident in the department. A patient’s family member came to cause trouble with Dr. Bai, brandishing a knife, and Dr. Gao threw himself at them to save the day. However, he still got stabbed with a knife. I heard he was just out of the emergency room at noon, and it’s still unclear how he’s doing now."
Anan suddenly froze in place upon hearing the nurse’s words, and the folder she just received fell to the floor. Her pupils dilated in shock, and dismissing what she had to do next, she asked anxiously, "Which ward is Dr. Gao in?"
"Which ward is he in?" With panic in her eyes, the two young nurses were taken aback by Anan’s anxious and eager demeanor and told her Gao Chuan’s ward number.
No sooner had they finished speaking than they saw the girl in the white coat rushing towards the elevator. She hurried past, accidentally bumping into a doctor passing by at the corner, hastily apologized with a "sorry," and dashed into the elevator.
The elevator descended floor by floor, the girl’s face full of urgency as she waited, her heart sinking to the bottom of the sea.
She didn’t understand what exactly had happened at the time; she was now preoccupied with the scenario of Dr. Gao being stabbed and taken to the emergency room, his fate unknown.
At this moment, any rift seemed so pale and feeble in the face of life and death. Her gaze settled on the descending floor numbers on the elevator display, with only one thought in her mind now.
Dr. Gao, please don’t let anything happen to you, the girl murmured silently in her heart.
In her mind, words from the Boss Lady at the Wonton Shop that morning suddenly sprang forth.
She said, being healthy and safe is what’s most important. As long as the family can live together peacefully, she is completely content.
After losing her parents, one after the other, she didn’t want to lose Dr. Gao now.
Finally, Jiang An reached the floor where Dr. Gao was located, stepped out of the elevator, and headed straight for the ward number the two young nurses had told her.
It was as if the cold looks they had shared days ago had vanished in an instant; all she wanted now was to see Dr. Gao safe and sound before her.
Jiang An, who had run all the way, might not have realized that tears had already filled her eyes, and her anxious figure drew many sideways glances as she dashed through the corridor.
It seemed as if everything else around her no longer mattered; at this moment, she only wanted to see him, her Dr. Gao.
When the girl burst into the ward, Gao Chuan was lying on the bed, surrounded by several doctors who seemed to be discussing the man’s condition after surgery. Hearing the noise behind them, the men turned around to see the tearful girl standing at the door.
The surgeons naturally did not recognize Jiang An; they all looked at the girl who had blunderly barged in with curious eyes.
Gao Chuan, already bandaged, also looked over. Seeing the girl’s tear-streaked face, the man was momentarily startled and sensed the awkward atmosphere in the room. He turned his head and exchanged a few words with the doctors in front of him, after which the doctors left the ward.
Jiang An was still standing there, stunned, watching the man in his blue and white striped patient’s uniform lying whole and unharmed on the bed, her tears continuing to pool in the corners of her eyes even after confirming his well-being.
Once the ward was left with just the two of them, Gao Chuan fixed his gaze on the girl still standing at the entrance. His heart trembled fiercely.
They had been in a cold war since that night, and Jiang An had been avoiding any contact with him, which he was well aware of. It seemed like a long time since they had faced each other like this.
The girl’s eyes, shimmering like gemstones, were filled with concern for the person before her. The man was stunned for a few seconds before he spoke softly, "Jiang An..."
No sooner had he spoken than the girl threw herself at his bedside, crying, her face streaked with tears like a little flower cat abandoned by its owner. Before he could speak, she cried out, "Dr. Gao... Thank goodness, you’re alright."
Watching the girl before him weeping uncontrollably, the man was slightly dazed, gradually realizing that Jiang An must have hurried over so anxiously because she thought something had happened to him.
For some reason, seeing the girl crying in such a disheveled state, there was a flash of pleasure in his heart.
The man looked down at Jiang An, who was sobbing with her shoulder twitching by his bedside, his face lightly smiling. He slowly extended his hand to pat her head and said in a tender voice to the person before him, "It’s okay, stop crying, I’m alright."
Perhaps even the man himself didn’t realize that his words sounded rather soothing.
The afternoon light rustled through the window, settling on the man’s delicately attractive face, with his black pupils seeming to radiate a dazzling glow.
Jiang An wept even harder when he comforted her, her tears falling one by one onto the white bedsheet, soaking a large area.
In the sunny weather, listening to the girl’s incessant weeping, the man’s mood also seemed to gradually clear.
For some reason, at this moment, Gao Chuan suddenly didn’t want to speak or explain.
A voice at the bottom of his heart told him that Little Ostrich cared about him, deeply.
