Diary of a Dead Wizard
Chapter 463: Borrowing Strength

From Kismet's letter, it was clear that he had prepared two gifts for Saul—one was a small favor for when he was down, and the other, a big trouble for when he was on top.

Saul didn’t know whether the other letter was destroyed when he received the first one. But now, with plenty of time, he decided to give it a try.

It wasn’t so much that he cared about the small things Kismet had prepared—well, maybe a little curious—but mainly he wanted to see how Kismet would send him letters if he went into hiding and to find out what other arrangements he had in Caugust City.

So, Saul spent half a day leaving Caugust, then disguised himself and entered again.

He finally discovered Kismet's special mark in a place where people were lining up to register their identities. Following the mark, he found the small gift left by Kismet inside a tall building near the city wall.

The items were a bottle of healing potion, a bottle of mental stability potion, and a new identity for an ordinary person.

Just as Saul was taking the items, another person walked in with a key.

Saul immediately hid.

The person’s expression was stiff and unnatural, likely another individual hypnotized by Kismet.

When this person entered and saw that the items were missing, he suddenly looked around the room, then smiled with a strange curve.

“Playful.”

After that, he returned to his emotionless expression, threw the key on the ground, and walked out.

"Has this person also been hypnotized by Kismet to act like him?" Saul walked out from his hiding place and picked up the key on the floor.

This series of actions didn’t set off any alarms in his diary, so it was safe to assume this wasn’t Kismet’s trap.

Saul collected the potions, recorded the identity information Kismet had prepared, and left the backup green pass inside the room.

The green pass was a regular pass for ordinary residents of the city.

Then, he left Caugust City again, retrieved his original silver pass, and took Marsh's carriage back into the city.

The reason Saul didn’t hide the passes on his person and didn’t store both passes together was because he worried that Caugust might have set up special mechanisms on the passes that could expose his movements.

After re-entering Caugust City, Saul followed his original plan, asking Marsh to drive towards Bayton Academy.

He wanted to first see the new magical tools created by Bayton Academy and also look for ways to make money and earn magic crystals.

Bayton Academy was located on the cliffs on the southeast side of Caugust, with crashing waves below.

From the Guidebook, it was clear that the academy occupied a third of the entire city.

Between the academy and the city was a small area of villas and estates. If Saul had chosen a villa from the agency center back then, he would likely have lived in this area.

At the west gate of Bayton Academy, some people were waiting to enter. Among them, some wore long robes similar to Saul’s.

Their expressions varied: some were anxious, others excited, and a few wore sinister looks.

As Saul’s carriage approached, many people looked over, scrutinizing the newcomer.

At this point, a wizard apprentice dressed in a blue-and-white uniform with silver-edged trims walked out.

Saul immediately recognized him as Captain Harry, whom he had met not long ago.

Captain Harry appeared troubled and gloomy, as if he was facing some difficulty.

When Saul, holding his silver pass, was warmly invited inside by a Bayton Academy apprentice at the entrance, Harry, noticing the movement, looked up in a daze, immediately recognizing Saul from their previous meetings.

His eyes spun around, and then, with a quick sprint, he ran to Saul's carriage window before it could move.

"My lord, I never expected to meet you here!" Harry took off his soft cap, holding it tightly in his hands.

Saul leaned out and smiled when he saw a familiar face. "Captain Harry, nice to see you again."

He noticed the wizard apprentice who walked behind Harry but didn’t greet him. If Harry were familiar with the person, he would have introduced them.

"How's the airship? Was it not repaired yet?" Saul casually asked, noticing Harry hadn't made an introduction.

"Ah, thank you for your concern, it’s already fixed. I came over to handle some matters. Since I saw you, I thought I'd stop by to greet you." Harry then took a couple of steps back, showing courtesy, "I know you're busy, so I won’t disturb you further."

He bowed deeply and made a gesture to send Saul on his way.

Saul nodded with a smile and returned to his carriage.

As the carriage moved along, Marsh’s muttering voice came from the front.

"My lord, I think that airship captain is using you."

While admiring the sights of Bayton Academy, Saul smiled. "Sometimes, being used by others isn’t a bad thing."

Meanwhile, after Saul’s carriage had driven away, Harry straightened up, sighed softly, and then apologized to the silent wizard apprentice behind him with an awkward smile. "Sorry, sir, I met an acquaintance and stopped to greet him. I’ll head back now to prepare for the handover."

The apprentice thought for a moment before speaking. "Wait a minute."

He walked to the registration desk at the west gate, asked a few questions, then returned.

"Your renewal documents aren't fully qualified, but they're very close. Go back and prepare another one, and come back tomorrow for the review."

Harry’s face lit up with joy. He bowed repeatedly, "Thank you so much! I’ll be sure to prepare it carefully next time!"

Without waiting for any further prompts, Harry turned and quickly left the academy.

The other commoners waiting at the gate watched Harry's lighthearted departure, many with envious and jealous expressions.

On the other side, Saul followed the directions to Bayton Academy’s exhibition hall.

Although it was called an exhibition hall, it was more like a marketplace for selling things.

There were more people inside, mostly wizards. A couple of them appeared to be true wizards.

Others made sure to respectfully keep their distance, at least three meters away from the two true wizards.

Many wizards were accompanied by a beautiful saleswoman who provided detailed explanations of the products.

Saul showed his pass as he entered, and immediately, two people approached him.

One was a handsome man, and the other, a woman.

"Good morning, sir. Which of us can assist you today?" The woman smiled as she spoke first.

The man wore a smile as well, gazing at Saul.

Saul felt something was off but couldn’t pinpoint what it was.

He casually said to the woman, "Then please, I’ll let you introduce things to me."

The woman's eyes gleamed with delight at the response, while the man appeared slightly disappointed but didn’t press the matter. He bowed respectfully and stepped back.

The woman was dressed in a blue-and-white uniform as well, but it lacked the silver trim.

Her outfit was not a long robe but a form-fitting dress instead.

The skirt was very short and revealing.

"Are all of you from Bayton Academy?" Saul didn’t rush to examine the items in the exhibition hall but instead took a careful look at the woman from head to toe.

He wasn’t wrong—both the woman and the man behind her were ordinary people.

Bayton Academy actually let a group of ordinary people stay in this hall full of magical items and serve wizards?

Did these ordinary people even realize they might not survive long because of this?
