Diary of a Dead Wizard -
Chapter 425: Battle of Offense and Defense
Saul suddenly snapped and directly devoured the soul of an apprentice. And that apprentice was none other than the famous president of the Mutual Aid Society—Lokai!
“Something’s wrong!” However, just as the pain in Saul’s body disappeared and his nerves relaxed, he immediately sensed something was off.
He turned to look at Lokai, whose body was now stuck halfway through the transparent barrier, both ends limp and dangling.
The soul had indeed been completely “eaten” by Saul, and the body was rapidly losing vitality.
But something didn’t feel right to Saul.
Would Lokai really die so easily?
“Brother Saul, that guy’s soul and body don’t match,”
Because Gorsa was present, the Nightmare Butterfly Penny had been hiding inside the diary, disguised as a bookmark.
Without the diary’s cover, Gorsa would most likely notice Penny’s presence.
“The soul and the body don’t match?” Saul suddenly realized something.“Little Algae!” he called out for Little Algae to check Lokai’s corpse.
The moment Little Algae rushed in front of Lokai, it sensed something wrong. It let out vicious hisses, “hiss-hah hiss-hah,” at the corpse, like it had found prey.
The next second, Lokai’s body suddenly burst like a rain-soaked sprinkler, spraying out fine black threads.
The threads hit the ground and immediately turned into black insects, rapidly devouring the magic-infused formation runes on the floor.
This time, Saul and Gorsa didn’t even need to make a move—Little Algae sprang into action on its own.
It exploded mid-air into countless tiny clones, each accurately targeting and devouring the black bugs that tried to sabotage the formation.
After finishing them off, the clones merged back together.
But Saul wasn’t focused on Little Algae’s success—his eyes were locked tightly on Lokai’s corpse.
Once the hundreds of black insects left Lokai’s body, his appearance suddenly changed.
He turned into Kujin!
“Kujin!” Saul stepped forward two paces, suspicion and confusion swirling in his heart.
“Yes, yes! That’s the face that matches his soul!” Penny cheered in Saul’s mind.
But Saul didn’t feel even a sliver of joy.
Why would Kujin, who had no reason to be at the resurrection experiment, disguise himself as Lokai?
And where was the real Lokai?
A thought flashed through Saul’s mind, but before he could grab hold of it, a loud commotion behind him interrupted his train of thought.
Behind him, Rum finally exploded in rage, shattering the large defensive barrier Gorsa had put in place.
Of course, the fact that he could break it was thanks not only to support from Anze and the others, but also because Gorsa was fully focused on assisting the fusion of the black shadow Vini and Yura, and hadn’t spared any mental energy to sustain the barrier’s magic.
Once one section of the barrier lost balance, the rest quickly followed, magic surging out of control until Rum completely unraveled it.
The transparent barrier melted away in an instant like thin snow under a blazing sun—vanishing before their eyes.
Just as the fighting paused briefly due to Saul, Anze seized the opportunity. While Kaz was distracted, Anze launched a sneak attack.
Several thin black thread-worms emerged from underground and ambushed Kaz.
Caught off guard, Kaz failed to dodge and was wrapped up tightly by layer upon layer of thread-worms, forming a giant cocoon.
The moment the cocoon sealed shut, it began to pulse—swelling and shrinking—clearly unable to contain Kaz for long.
Anze didn’t go for the kill but instead turned and charged into the half-dissolved barrier with Rum.
“Now’s the time!” Anze’s eyes gleamed as he directed the muscle-bound Rum, now a beast of brute strength, “Before he finishes reviving Yura, he’s at his weakest!”
With Anze’s shout, Rum raised his hammer-like arms and charged in.
Gorsa was indeed in the middle of the crucial phase of fusing Vini and Yura. Just as Anze said, he couldn’t afford to be distracted. Not only that, but the crack on his chest still remained, clearly taking a toll on his condition.
He couldn’t unleash his full power.
But that didn’t mean he couldn’t fight back.
A flash of irritation crossed Gorsa’s silver eyes, as if something boiling inside him was about to shatter his rationality.
With a wave of his hand, countless hair-thin golden threads materialized in the air. After a brief pause, they shot forth like a torrential downpour, targeting Rum and Anze.
Rum didn’t dodge. He simply raised one arm to shield his eyes and charged ahead.
The golden threads didn’t pierce through Rum’s muscular armor but left countless tiny holes on the surface.
The assault didn’t stop—the holes on Rum’s skin began to burn, like sparks falling onto paper, creating tiny craters that grew larger by the second.
But Rum’s body was also healing automatically.
With healing spells and his own regenerative fat, he managed to endure the barrage.
On the other side, Anze grabbed Kujin’s body and used it as a shield in front of himself.
The golden threads passed through Kujin’s body without resistance, but just before they reached Anze, they were stopped by an advanced mage armor barrier.
“This really is your weakest moment,” Anze sneered, his eyes locked onto the crack in Gorsa’s chest. “Get him! He barely has any magic left—whoever lands a hit gets first pick of the loot in the vault!”
Instead of charging in like Rum, Anze stood his ground and began commanding from a distance.
The apprentices he brought with him didn’t escape and instead remained not far off, watching the scene.
When they saw that the great Tower Master couldn’t even threaten a First Rank Wizard, their greed began to overtake their reason.
They didn’t need to go to the front lines; they could just harass from a distance. If lucky, maybe they could even injure the great Tower Master?
However, as soon as this thought arose, several Third Rank apprentices suddenly started twitching uncontrollably, foaming at the mouth.
But despite the apparent pain, these apprentices didn’t fall. Instead, they charged at Gorsa, mimicking the actions of Rum, and initiated a self-destructive attack, trying to explode themselves.
However, their eyes clearly showed fear and reluctance!
This group of Third Rank apprentices had been controlled by Anze!
“This Anze’s threadworms are terrifying!” Saul, still standing in the circular magic formation, had not moved recklessly.
The resurrection experiment had not yet been completed. Now that Gudo was dead, only he could still assist Gorsa and offer support.
Looking at the situation, it was clear that Gorsa had no intention of stopping the experiment, but it was more likely that he had no way of halting it.
Since that was the case, the only option was for Gorsa to complete the experiment quickly so that they could turn their attention to Anze and Rum.
If Saul ran now, and if Gorsa did accidentally fail, those who would overthrow Gorsa would come looking for him next.
Saul was confident that in a one-on-one fight, most First Rank official wizards would not be his match.
But he was not arrogant enough to think he could fight all his enemies at once.
Even if he used his ultimate move, the mental battlefield, and dragged two or three true wizards into it to kill their souls, it might take a long time.
By then, his motionless body would be in grave danger!
So in this kind of multi-person chaotic battle, unless someone could protect Saul’s body, recklessly opening the mental battlefield would be suicide.
Saul looked at Anze, who had stayed behind instead of charging, narrowing his eyes slightly.
Anze seemed to have reached the peak of laziness, refusing to move forward even in such a critical moment.
He looked at Saul and licked his lips. “You truly haven’t disappointed me. There are surprises everywhere. It’s just a pity…”
Boom—
A huge explosion rang out, accompanied by a brief flash of lightning, and several high-level apprentices who had rushed forward instantly lost their upper bodies.
Their lower halves ran a few steps forward before collapsing to the ground.
It was Gorsa’s big move again.
This almost frightened all the apprentices, but most of them standing on the battlefield had already lost control over their own actions.
When their willpower struggled to overcome their bodies' constraints, black threads would emerge from their bodies, taking control and forcing them to run forward again.
Only Rum had never retreated. Even though the front half of his body had become charred, the vital parts were unharmed.
It was him who had withstood most of Gorsa’s attacks and was slowly closing the distance.
Seeing this, Anze chuckled. “Rum has been storing fat for decades, it’s not so easy to wear him down.”
He then turned to Saul, who looked wary, and said, “Gorsa won’t survive today. If you smash the glass vial from earlier and throw it into the magic formation, I’ll spare your life.”
Saul shook his head, maintaining the operation of the magic formation under his feet, completely ignoring Anze’s nonsense.
He had seen enough of such promises on TV.
It was all just word games!
But at this moment, Saul also had the intention of preserving his strength.
Firstly, he believed Gorsa couldn’t be harmed by those lackeys, and secondly, the pressure from Anze in front of him was immense.
Saul even suspected that Anze had already reached the power of a Second Rank Wizard.
Only for some unknown reason had it been delayed... or suppressed.
A ripping sound came from behind Anze as Mentor Kaz finally broke free from the cocoon made of threadworms.
As soon as he saw Saul, he knew that Saul was still helping Gorsa complete the experiment.
On the other side, Anze had already taken a step toward Saul.
"Anze, you bastard, your opponent is me!"
Kaz hesitated for only half a second before letting out a roar, his pupils instantly turning pitch black.
From the ground in front of him, dozens of bones suddenly shot up like a fountain.
The bones quickly moved, assembling and forming, and within seconds, three eerily shaped skeletal figures appeared.
Third Rank Necromancy—Natural Skeletons!
Each of these humanoid skeletons possessed the power close to that of a true wizard!
By summoning three natural skeletons at once, Kaz essentially released three Third Rank spells in one go.
He then finally demonstrated the death magic of a Dark Attribute wizard, multitasking and commanding the three natural skeletons to attack Anze together.
Anze blinked in surprise, stepping back a few paces. The soil beneath his feet suddenly erupted, sending out numerous black threadworms that entangled and gnawed at the skeletons' lower limbs.
"In honor of you saving me before, don’t force me to kill you!"
But Mentor Kaz was completely unfazed by Anze's words, following closely behind the three natural skeletons and continuously casting spells for long-range attacks.
"Saul, keep an eye on the Tower Master's movements!"
After successfully driving Anze away from Saul, Kaz quickly gave a shout and continued fighting Anze, attempting to lead him farther away.
Watching as Anze was forced back by Kaz’s sudden burst of power, Saul didn’t feel the slightest sense of relief.
He couldn’t shake the feeling that Anze’s lack of retaliation wasn’t due to him caring about Kaz’s past favor; it seemed like he was waiting for something...
Just then!
The shrill screams of Vini and Yura from behind suddenly stopped!
Saul immediately turned his head to look. The shadow that had been clinging to Yura had vanished, forcibly fused into her body by Gorsa.
Once the fusion was complete, the pain on Yura’s face disappeared. She blinked her eyes, then opened them again, a look of confusion crossing her face.
"Gorsa?" Her voice was still somewhat pained, but her emotions had stabilized a lot.
Gorsa looked at Lady Yura with a gentle gaze, "Don’t be afraid, you’ll soon have your body back."
He had completed the fusion of the potion with Yura’s soul and had returned Vini to Yura’s body.
Now, Yura’s soul was whole and stable, ready for the final step.
Soul Infusion.
He swept his hand across the ground, and a beautiful blonde-haired, blue-eyed female body appeared.
She lay there in a deep sleep, her hands crossed over her abdomen. If it weren’t for the stillness of her chest, she would appear just like a living sleeping beauty.
"This body?" Seeing that Gorsa had finally infused magic power and anti-rejection potion into Yura’s soul, Saul was finally able to free himself from the magic formation. "It fits Rum’s aesthetic perfectly. Did Rum also help modify this corpse?"
The diary hadn’t given any warning, and Anze was temporarily driven off by Kaz, so Saul finally felt a bit of relief. However, he still kept a wary eye on his surroundings, watching Gorsa’s movements closely.
Gorsa cradled Yura’s soul gently, slowly lowering her toward the body on the ground.
Upon seeing the beautiful female corpse, Rum’s eyes instantly turned bloodshot.
"Gorsa!!! You’re dead!!!" He roared, his previously injured body rapidly healing, swelling up again, and his fist, carrying a terrifying wind, struck toward Gorsa.
Facing the incoming Rum, Gorsa suddenly released a burst of immense magical power.
A large number of golden needles appeared once again, this time shining with an extremely bright light.
Rum’s punch landed, but it was firmly blocked by the dense and fine golden needles.
Then, those golden needles suddenly exerted force, piercing through Rum’s arm and also impaling several apprentices near him.
Rum’s arm and the unfortunate apprentices’ bodies began to dissolve immediately.
It was clear that these golden needles had unleashed their full strength in their attack.
"Anze!" Rum gritted his teeth, enduring the pain of losing an arm, and shouted loudly.
Anze’s retreating footsteps paused, and he chuckled lightly, "Got it."
Suddenly, the ground beneath him surged, huge earth spikes rising from it, flipping over the natural skeletons that had been advancing.
In the next moment, he flashed forward, closing the distance to Kaz, and a finger transformed into countless thin threads, forming a black conical shape that violently stabbed toward the back of Kaz’s head.
Kaz had just started to cast a spell in defense when his body froze. From his two eyes, two black threadworms suddenly emerged!
Just as the black cone was about to pierce Kaz’s head, a black tentacle appeared in midair, blocking Anze’s attack.
Not only that, another gray, translucent tentacle suddenly shot out from the black one, making a close-range strike toward Anze’s head.
It was Saul’s soul fishing, hidden inside the body of Little Algae.
