Devoted Love:The Billionaire's Precious Wife -
Chapter 493
Chapter 493: Chapter 493
Rosemary was starting to feel better, and upon hearing that Dennis and her brother Clark were about to get into a spat, she decided to intervene. She lightly rapped on the door to Carol’s room, and seeing the defensive posture Dennis had taken, she spoke softly, "Go easy on my brother."
"Rosemary, you don’t understand." Dennis was about to enlighten Rosemary about Clark’s transgressions, but the warning look in her eyes stopped him mid-sentence.
Truth be told, over the years of knowing Rosemary, he had come to fear her stern gaze. It was unnerving and somehow managed to rattle him.
His bravado faltered, and he tried to justify his stance, "He was in the wrong."
Rosemary then turned her gaze to Clark, who, under the pressure, admitted, "It was my fault."
"Talk it out," suggested Rosemary, uninterested in meddling in their affairs.
Leaning against the door, she added casually, "Don’t disturb my sleep."
Dennis’ fiery temper seemed to dampen at her words. Carol, noticing the change, wondered if her brother was really that influenced by Rosemary’s words.
Could it be? No, it was not possible, right?
Rosemary, after instructing the servant at the door to keep an eye on them, left nonchalantly. The servant was astounded. Just a few words from Ms. Rose, and the tense atmosphere had eased.
"Brother, it was wrong of me not to inform the family about my relationship with Carol a year ago," Clark admitted. "I wanted to wait until our relationship was stable, propose to Carol, and then inform the family. I did not want our family to disturb Carol’s peaceful life prematurely."
He knew just how enthusiastic his mother could be, always ready to drop by for a visit or even spy on Carol.
"My feelings for Carol are genuine," Clark declared. "During her absence over the past year, I was in agony. Now that she’s back, I will double my efforts to take care of her, be with her, and help her recover."
Carol was moved and looked at him with softened eyes.
"As for Crystal, I’ve always considered her a sister and have never crossed any boundaries. I swear it," Clark explained. "My mother just loves to meddle. Since my brother Hunter and Chasel both have girlfriends, she naturally turned her attention to me."
He intended to introduce Carol to the family once they both had recovered.
"But you heard it yourself. Your mother cares a lot about social standings. Diana doesn’t come from a prominent family, she’s not a rich heiress, her personality is not outgoing, and she doesn’t try to please anyone. Plus, she’s the next in line for the organization."
None of these things was favored by Louisa.
"My mother cares more about her son’s happiness. As long as I love the person, she will definitely approve." He was confident about this.
"Besides, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Carol’s personality. I like her just the way she is. She doesn’t have to please anyone when she’s with me. Whether she’s a rich heiress or comes from a prominent family doesn’t matter to me."
All that mattered was that Carol was by his side.
Meanwhile...
Crystal, carrying the clothes Louisa had given her, was just about to leave the Collins family mansion when she spotted Serena and Martha whispering in the garden.
She knew that Martha had been serving Serena for eighteen years and that their relationship was as close as mother and daughter.
She approached them with a warm smile, "Serena, dear."
"Crystal?" Serena paused in her conversation, looking at Crystal Temple with a sweet smile in her eyes. "Are you here for Clark? He won’t be coming home for a while."
"I know, your mom said he’s busy with work."
"Well, he’s been staying at his own place recently. I think it’s probably the Mystic Oak House. How about we go visit him together one day?" Serena proposed.
Having her as a sister to accompany Crystal to visit Clark would make Crystal’s intentions less obvious.
Crystal smiled, feeling Serena’s warmth, saying, "Sure, thank you."
"You’re too polite, Crystal."
They chatted for a while longer before Crystal went home. As soon as she entered her room, she couldn’t wait to try on the new clothes and made sure to pose in front of the mirror, making cute and playful faces while recording videos for Louisa.
She made nine videos, one for each dress, and didn’t forget to thank her for her great taste in picking out such beautiful and playful dresses that she loved.
After sending them, she saw how pretty she looked in the videos and forwarded them to Clark.
Hearing his phone ring nine times, Clark took it out to see videos from Crystal. He was puzzled, but upon opening one of them, he saw Crystal wearing a cute puffy dress, making adorable faces in the mirror.
Since the video volume was on speaker, everyone heard Crystal saying, "Oh my gosh, this dress is so cute! You have such good taste. It’s so vibrant when I put it on, and I love it. Thank you! This dress must’ve been expensive."
Clark didn’t understand why Crystal would randomly make such videos and say such things in them.
He felt Dennis’ questioning gaze and quickly sent him a few question marks.
Soon, Crystal replied:
[Clark, do I look good in these clothes?]
Her voice was sweet and full of laughter, which further infuriated Dennis.
Carol, on the other hand, didn’t show much emotion.
Clark, getting anxious, couldn’t help but send a voice message asking, "What’s with these clothes? People might think I bought them. Why are you sending these to me?"
Crystal laughed again:
[Aunt bought me all these beautiful clothes. I’m happy, so I wanted to show you. Aunt is so thoughtful, and she treats me like her own daughter.]
Dennis, hearing this, was about to explode.
[My mom bought you clothes?? Why don’t you show them to my mom then? Why are you showing them to me?]
Clark was a little frustrated.
Crystal didn’t know what had upset him and quickly made a voice call.
Clark didn’t want to answer at first, but he thought it was necessary to clarify some things, so he answered and put it on speaker.
"Clark," Crystal’s sweet voice came from the other end, "I was just sharing Aunt’s kindness with you. Why are you upset? Did I interrupt your work? Or do you not like these clothes?"
It seemed like she was a very considerate, gentle, and caring person who cared a lot about Clark’s feelings.
Carol’s gaze deepened. She realized that in the year she and Clark had been dating, she had never spoken to him in such a gentle tone. It was always he who took the initiative to care.
"Crystal, I have something to tell you." Clark began, glancing at Dennis and Carol. He said seriously, "We can only be friends. I’m sorry."
Crystal’s laughter froze.
