Chapter 229: Chapter 229
"You think you can strut around Summerfield just because you’re wearing SK’s latest?"
The woman laughed even more enchantingly, "Since you seem to know your stuff, you should know this new design is from SK’s top designer, Phelps. I’m sure you know how much this outfit costs, something you could never afford in your lifetime,"
Her point was clear. She could afford such an expensive outfit, and that made her someone not to be messed with. Rosemary was out of her league.
"I thought you had something meaningful to say." Rosemary motioned for a store clerk to come over, "Tell her how much it would cost to dry clean my shoes." The clerk took a closer look and gasped, "My God, these are from LY’s custom series. I’ve seen them once in an internal training, they’re about two hundred thousand dollars a pair. Just the dry–cleaning and maintenance fees are over ten thousand
dollars, but dry–cleaned shoes drop in value. These shoes look new, I estimate a loss of twenty thousand dollars."
Twenty thousand dollars?
The woman’s face darkened.
Her outfit was only worth just over a hundred thousand dollars, she hadn’t expected the girl’s pair of shoes to be more expensive than her entire outfit. And they were custom–made.
Everyone knew that Queen Abby, the founder of LY, didn’t take orders lightly. Those who could get her custom designs were people of status.
Could it be that this girl came from a wealthy family?
But why couldn’t she recognize any brands from her outfit? Could they be custom–made too?
As she thought of this, the woman’s face grew even more sour.
The long–haired girl hadn’t expected to meet someone wealthier than them. She tugged at her friend’s sleeve, "Alma, what do we do?"
"It’s just twenty thousand dollars, I can afford it." Alma opened her handbag, took out a cheque, wrote the amount, and handed it over haughtily, "Here you go." Rosemary didn’t take it, instead she turned to the clerk and said, "Donate it."
The clerk, Alma, and the long–haired girl were all stunned.
"For the donation note, write ’the presumptuous ignorant missy"." Without waiting for an apology,Rosemary turned and walked away.
Alma watched her leave, seething. She vowed to find out who she was.
The clerk took the cheque and went off to process it.
"Alma, who was that girl? She seems to come from a well–to–do family."
"Is there anyone in this country wealthier than us?" Alma lifted her chin, clearly incredulous.
"True, your cousin is the richest man in the country. The Collins family’s status is well–known." The long–haired girl suddenly remembered something, "Didn’t you say your uncle has a long–lost daughter who has just been found? You still haven’t picked out a dress for tonight’s meeting, better hurry up."
"Right." Alma responded before asking another clerk, "Is this all you have in the store?"
"We have a luxury dress section over there, but the prices might be unaffordable for most people."
The clerk meant no harm, just stating facts, but to Alma, it was a direct insult.
"Are you questioning the Collins family’s ability to afford a dress?"
Hearing this, and seeing the new SK outfit Alma was wearing, the salesperson quickly apologized and led her to the high–end clothing area.
There were very few customers there, as each piece of clothing was priced at least two million dollars.
Unlike the ordinary clothes from before, every piece here was so luxurious it was hard to look away.
Alma glanced casually but was immediately drawn to a beautiful backless dress. She had it taken off the mannequin and tried it on herself, then paid for it promptly. The whole process was incredibly swift, and it was as if she was not swiping money but just a string of numbers.
"Alma, with this dress and those expensive jewelry pieces from your collection, you’ll definitely be the center of attention tonight." said the long–haired girl cheerfully Alma gave a cold laugh. Was that even a question?
"I heard your uncle’s daughter who grew up in a small town just moved to Summerfield. Even if you don’t dress up tonight, your aura will definitely outshine hers." Alma had no interest in the girl, but the fact that Serena was not a biological daughter of the Collins family made her very happy.
Outside Dawn Department Store.
After being kicked out, the three members of the Attlee Harris family didn’t leave immediately.
Instead, they hid behind the garden, hoping to see someone exiting the store.
It was midsummer, and the outdoor temperature had reached 39 degrees. Yolanda was feeling extremely hot and couldn’t help asking, "Dad, Mom, how long do we have to wait here?"
"Just a bit longer, sweetheart," Attlee responded, keeping his eyes on the exit. "Rose is a straight–A student, a piano master, the founder of LY, and she has deep ties with the Collins family’s clothing
company. She might know the executives of the Collins family’s company. That Molly, the one who won first place in the design competition, seems to be on good terms with her. And Dylan from Allbara Investment, he’s been extra courteous to her."
Attlee recalled the last time when Allbara Investment suddenly pulled out and refused to cooperate with the Harris family. He visited Dylan for dinner to seek understanding, only to find out Dylan had gone to meet someone important.
He witnessed in person how Dylan behaved toward Rosemary with a great deal of respect in the restaurant’s private room. There was even a hint of humility and flattery in his demeanor.
"The store manager also mentioned earlier that LY is McMilian Corporation’s most important partner.
What does that tell us? That Rose knows people from McMilian Corporation. Remember when we witnessed her picking up Phillip McMillian from the hospital? All this suggests she has an extensive
network, more than we could have imagined. Our Harris family’s salvation is at hand."
Attlee made a vow in his heart to use whatever means necessary to get her help to save the Harris family.
"She cares about Grace the most, doesn’t she? If we run out of options, we’ll just stop giving Grace her medicine and threaten her with that." Olga suggested while fanning herself in the sweltering heat. She felt like she was about to faint from the sun. They had been waiting for half an hour already, how much
longer did they have to wait?
"You don’t understand Rose at all. She’ll respond to gentle persuasion, not to threats. The more you threaten her, the more she’ll resist," Attlee finally understood why the Harris family had been in such an unlucky state since Rosemary left them.
Turned out that Rosemary was indeed the Harris family’s lucky
